The sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） remains a serious threat to crops worldwide. The damaging B-biotype is of specific economic concern because it is an effective vector of over 111 viruses from several fam- ilies, particularly geminiviruses. Bemisia tabaci is regularly intercepted on plants coming into the Uk where it is subjected to a policy of eradication. The Uk maintains Protective Zone status against this pest. A main pathway of entry of B. tabaci into the Protected Zone involves propagating material, especially Poinsettia （Euphorbia pulcherrima）. With increased insecticide resistance continuously being recorded, B. tabaci is becoming more difficult to control/eradicate. Recent research involving both entomopathogenic nematodes and fungi is showing much potential for the development of control programs for this pest. Both the nematode Steinernemafeltiae and the fungus Lecanicillium muscarium have been shown to be most effective against second instar B. tabaci. Fine-tuning of the environmental conditions required has also increased their efficacy. The entomopathogens have also shown a high level of compatibility with chemical insecticides, all increasing their potential to be incorporated into control strategies against B. tabaci.

The effect on spore germination of the entomopathogenic fungus Lecanicillium muscarium following direct exposure for 24 h to the insecticides Majestik, Spray Oil, Agri- 50E, Savona and Oberon for the control of both egg and second instar stages of the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, was determined. Exposure to both Agri-50E and Oberon was followed by acceptable spore germination. Infectivity rates ofL. muscarium on poinsettia foliage in the presence of dry residues of the insecticides were also investigated. No significant detrimental effects on the levels of control of B. tabaci were recorded compared with fungus applied to residue-free foliage. Sequential application of the chemicals Savona, Spray Oil and Majestik with the fungus all produced mortalities of second instar B. tabaci above 90%. Incorporation of these chemicals with L. muscarium into integrated control programs for B. tabaci is discussed.

Objective:To evaluate antioxidant,cytotoxic,and anti-venom capacity of crude bark extracts of Alstonia parvifolia ***:Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(Gc-MS)and energy dispersive X-ray analyses were accomplished to characterize the chemical constituents of Alstonia *** characterization was evaluated using an inhibitory phospholipase A_(2)(PLA_(2))assay,DPPH,and cytotoxicity *** the constituents listed in the Gc-MS analyses,molecular docking was conducted to inspect the binding energies between the chosen compounds and selected PLA_(2) ***:Gc-MS analyses showed that the Alstonia parvifolia crude extract consisted predominantly of acetylmarinobufogenin(14.89%),γ-sitosterol(10.44%),3-O-methyl-D-glucose(5.88%),3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid(5.30%),(2α,5α)-17-methoxyaspidofractinin-3-one(AFM)(4.08%),and 2,3,5,6,7,8,9-heptahydro-1-phenyl-5-(p-chlorophenylimino)-1H-benzo[e][1,4]thiazepine(HPT)(1.37%).The principal elemental components of Alstonia parvifolia were ca(4.012%)and k(1.496%),as exhibited by energy dispersive X-ray *** parvifolia showed significant free radical scavenging ability(Ic_(50):0.287 mg/mL)and was non-cytotoxic to normal HDFn cells(Ic_(50)>100μg/mL).Moreover,Alstonia parvifolia was favorably cytotoxic to McF-7(Ic_(50):4.42µg/mL),followed by H69PR,HT-29,and THP-1,with Ic_(50) values of 4.94,5.07,and 6.27µg/mL,*** parvifolia also displayed notable inhibition against PLA_(2) activity of Naja philippinensis Taylor venom with Ic_(50) of(15.2±1.8)μg/*** and cluster analyses projected negative binding energies from AFM(−6.36 to−9.68 kcal/mol),HPT(−7.38 to−9.77 kcal/mol),and acetylmarinobufogenin(−7.22 to−9.59 kcal/mol).These calculations were for the particular interactions of Alstonia parvifolia constituents to PLA_(2) homologues where the utmost affinity was detected in HPT owing to the dipole interactions with amino acid ***:The bark e

AIM： To investigate whether transfection of plasmid DNA encoding these cytokines enhances both humoral and cellular immune responses to hepatitis c virus （HcV） in a murine model. METHODS： We established a tumor model of HcV infection using syngenic mouse myeloma cells stably transfected with NS5. co-vaccination of DNA encoding granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor （GM- cSF） and Flt-3 ligand together with a plasmid encoding for the HcV NS5 protein was carried out. Mice were sacrificed 14 d after the last immunization event with collection of spleen cells and serum to determine humoral and cellular immune responses. RESULTS： co-vaccination of DNA encoding GM-cSF and Fit-3 ligand together with a plasmid encoding for the HcV NS5 protein induced increased antibody responses and cD4＋ T cell proliferation to this protein, Vaccination with DNA encoding GM-cSF and FIt-3L promoted protection against tumor formation and/or reduction in mice co- immunized with cytokine-encoding DNA constructs, This suggests this strategy is capable of generating cytotoxic T lymphocyte activity in vivo, Following inoculation with plasmid DNA encoding Flt-3L, no increase in spleen size or in dendritic cell （Dc） and natural killer cell numbers was observed. This was in contrast to a dramatic increase of both cell types after administration of recombinant Flt3-L in vivo. This suggests that vaccination with plasmid DNA encoding cytokines that regulate Dc generation and mobilization may not promote unwanted side effects, such as autoimmunity, splenic fibrosis or hematopoietic malignancies that may occur with administration of recombinant forms of these proteins. cONcLUSION： Our data support the view that plasmid DNA vaccination is a promising approach for HcV immunization, and may provide a general adjuvant vaccination strategy against malignancies and other pathogens.

Immunotherapy is now commonly prescribed to cancer patients,but autoimmune-related adverse events are *** severe,life-threatening side effects,cessation of therapy seems unavoidable,let alone intensive medical care required for patching up the adverse *** without serious adverse events,the response rates are too low and various combinatory regimens have been ***,toxicities are also added on,unless the adjuvant agents have remarkably few side ***,micronutrients are usually taken by a majority of cancer patients as nutritional support or to boost the immune function,let alone hoping to counteract treatment side *** studies have shown that combinations of micronutrients exert pleiotropic effects in controlling tumor growth and metastasis by modulating the tumor microenvironment,enhancing gut microbiota immune functions,and providing adjunct nutritional support to micronutrient deficient cancer patients.A higher than recommended dietary allowance micronutrient dose is proposed to reduce the toxic free radicals generated as a result of immunotherapy and tumor *** is not only helpful for managing treatment side effects but also enhancing treatment *** micronutrient supplementation is also useful to improve patients’quality of life,prolong survival,and sustain compliance to immunotherapy,further investigations are mandatory.

Background and Aims: Accurate endoscopic detection of premalignant lesions and earlycancers in the colon is essential for cure, since prognosis is closely related to lesion size andstage. Although it has great clinical potential, autofluorescence endoscopy has limited tumorto-normal tissue image contrast for detecting small preneoplastic lesions. We have developed amolecularly specific, near-infrared fluorescent monoclonal antibody (cc49) bioconjugate whichtargets tumor-associated glycoprotein 72 (TAG72), as a contrast agent to improve fluorescencebased endoscopy of colon cancer. Methods: The fluorescent anti-TAG72 conjugate was evaluated in vitro and in vivo in athymic nude mice bearing human colon adenocarcinoma (LS174T)subcutaneous tumors. Autofluorescence, a fluorescent but irrelevant antibody and the free fluorescent dye served as controls. Fluorescent agents were injected intravenously, and in vivowhole body fluorescence imaging was performed at various time points to determine pharmacokinetics, followed by ex vivo tissue analysis by confocal fluorescence microscopy and histology Results: Fluorescence microscopy and histology confirmed specific LS174T cell membrane targeting of labeled cc49 in vitro and ex vivo. In vivo fluorescence imaging demonstrated significant tumor-to-normal tissue contrast enhancement with labeled-cc49 at three hours postinjection, with maximum contrast after 48 h. Accumulation of tumor fluorescence demonstratedthat modification of cc49 antibodies did not alter their specific tumor-localizing properties, andwas antibody-dependent since controls did not produce detectable tumor fluorescence. conclusions: These results show proof-of-principle that our near-infrared fluorescent-antibody probetargeting a tumor-associated mucin detects colonic tumors at the molecular level in real time,and offer a basis for future improvement of image contrast during clinical fluorescence endoscopy.

Infrared spectroscopy analyses of air-cH_4 or air-cO gas flows interacting with polycrystalline ceO_2, La_2O_3 and Lu_2O_3 oxides

A comparative study of reactivity between air-cH4 or air-cO gas flows and ceO2, La2O3 and Lu2O3 rare earth oxides was per- formed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses of cO2 gas resulted from the conversion of cH4 or cO gases. Polyerystalline samples of ceO2, La2O3 and Lu2O3 were first prepared by specific precipitation methods followed by low temperature calcination process. In the case of Lu2O3 oxide, a new specific route was proposed. crystallite dimensions were determined by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses. Morphologies were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. Specific surface areas were determined from Bnmauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） technique. Using infrared spectroscopy analyses, the conversion rates of cH4 or cO into cO2 were de- termined from the evolutions of cO2 vibrational band intensities, as a function of time and temperature. It was dearly established that, despite its low specific surface, the Lu2O3 oxide presented the highest capacity of conversion of cH4 or cO into cO2.
