In order to take advantage of the lignocellulosic material in water hyacinth （Eichhornia crassipes）, dehydration pretreatment in the first step and then sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide pretreatment was performed. The microorganism used for the fermentation process was Zimomonas mobilis. Batch fermentation experiments were carried out with four tests using 22 factorial design with two levels leadings to evaluate the effect of NaOH concentration, conditioning salts as independent variables and ethanol produced as a dependent variable. The optimum condition with higher amount of glucose hydrolyzed and ethanol was： substrate conditioning cellulases, it was pretreated 10% NaOH, with 92.38% conversion of glucose to ethanol and yield of 0.47 g ethanol per g of glucose and 0.018 g ethanol per g of biomass.

Stability of Soybean Genotypes and Their Classification into relative Maturity Groups in Brazil

The stability of soybean genotypes is very important in breeding programs for not only the evaluation, selection, and production of cultivars but also the establishment of parameters required for the classification of genotypes into relative maturity groups (rMG). The aim of this study was to define stable genotypes for traits, such as days to flowering, days to maturity, and length of the reproductive period, and to classify them into rMG. For this purpose, 20 commercial soybean cultivars were evaluated in 12 environments distributed in the major producing regions of Brazil. Assessments according to the Eberhart and russell method and the additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) method were effective in the identification of stable genotypes and their classification into rMG. These methods can also be used collectively for this purpose. Our results showed that the AMMI method led to a better interpretation of genotype-environment interactions. Thus, rMG obtained on the basis of stable genotypes represented a good estimate of the relative maturity of soybean crops throughout Brazil. *Corresponding author.

Mesoamerica and the Caribbean are low-latitude regions at risk for the effects of climate change. Global climate models provide large-scale assessment of climate drivers, but, at a horizontal resolution of 100 km, cannot resolve the effects of topography and land use as they impact the local temperature and precipitation that are keys to climate impacts. We developed a robust dynamical downscaling strategy that used the WrF regional climate model to downscale at 4 - 12 km resolution GCM results. Model verification demonstrates the need for such resolution of topography in order to properly simulate temperatures. Precipitation is more difficult to evaluate, being highly variable in time and space. Overall, a 36 km resolution is inadequate;12 km appears reasonable, especially in regions of low topography, but the 4 km resolution provides the best match with observations. This represents a tradeoff between model resolution and the computational effort needed to make simulations. A key goal is to provide climate change specialists in each country with the information they need to evaluate possible future climate change impacts.

Diffuse intestinal ganglioneuromatosis is a hamartomatous polyposis characterized by a disseminated, intramural or transmural proliferation of neural elements involving the enteric plexuses. It has been associated with MEN Ⅱ, neurofibromatosis type 1 and hamartomatous polyposis associated with phosphatase and tensin homolog mutation. We report the case of a female patient with a history of a breast and endometrial tumor who presented in a colonoscopy performed for rectal bleeding diffuse ganglioneuromatosis, which oriented the search for other characteristic findings of Cowden syndrome given the personal history of the patient. The presence of an esophagogastric polyposis was also noted. Cowden syndrome is characterized by skin lesions, but it is rarely diagnosed by these lesions, because they are usually overlooked. Intestinal polyposis is not a major diagnostic criterion but it is very useful for early diagnosis. The combination of colonic polyposis and glucogenic acanthosis should orient the diagnosis to Cowden syndrome.

Cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common primary malignant tumor of the *** cholangiocarcinoma or Klatskin tumor represents more than 50% of all biliary tract cholangiocarcinomas.A wide range of risk factors have been identified among patients with Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma including advanced age,male gender,primary sclerosing cholangitis,choledochal cysts,cholelithiasis,cholecystitis,parasitic infection(Opisthorchis viverrini and Clonorchis sinensis),inflammatory bowel disease,alcoholic cirrhosis,nonalcoholic cirrhosis,chronic pancreatitis and metabolic *** classifications have been used to describe the pathologic and radiologic appearance of *** three systems most commonly used to evaluate Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma are the Bismuth-Corlette(BC) system,the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the TNM *** BC classification provides preoperative assessment of local *** Memorial Sloan-Kettering cancer center proposes a staging system according to three factors related to local tumor extent:the location and extent of bile duct involvement,the presence or absence of portal venous invasion,and the presence or absence of hepatic lobar *** TNM classification,besides the usual descriptors,tumor,node and metastases,provides additional information concerning the possibility for the residual tumor(r) and the histological grade(G).recently,in 2011,a new consensus classification for the Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma had been *** consensus was organised by the European Hepato-PancreatoBiliary Association which identified the need for a new staging system for this type of *** classification includes information concerning biliary or vascular(portal or arterial) involvement,lymph node status or metastases,but also other essential aspects related to the surgical risk,such as remnant hepatic volume or the possibility of underlying disease.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Approach for Spinal Canal Tumors—Technique Description and Experience from a reference Center

Background: Spinal canal tumors are difficult to diagnose and treat. The traditional surgical approaches for attempting a complete excision of these lesions frequently involve big incisions and tissue dissection with high risk of postop instability and cerebrospinal fluid leakage. Also, there is a risk of neurological worsening, sometimes irreversible. Methods: We present our experience in a patient series with spinal canal tumors and describe the surgical approach with minimally invasive techniques (MIS). All of them were performed by the Neurosurgery team of the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio during the period of 2011-2016. results: We reviewed forty patients with spinal canal tumors surgically treated with MIS techniques. 15 patients (37.5%) had Meningioma diagnosis (complete resection in 11 (73.3%), subtotal in 3 (20%) and biopsy in one patient), 10 patients (25%) with Schwannomas reached complete resection in 70% and subtotal in 30%. 5 patients had spinal cord metastasis, with complete resection in 4 patients (80%) and subtotal in 1 (20%). Other included ependymoma, astrocytoma, and miscellaneous. No patient has had cerebrospinal fluid leakage and no postoperative fusion has been required. Conclusions: The minimally invasive approach allowed complete tumors removal in a high number of patients and good postoperative results. These findings are similar and in some cases, better than the reported with traditional techniques. This MIS technique provides encouraging results. It requires a wide learning curve and a high degree of surgical experience.

BACKGrOUND The estimation of left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)by 2D echocardiography(2D-ECHO)is the most used tool to assess LV systolic function(LVSF).Global longitudinal strain(GLS)has recently been suggested as a superior method for several *** study explored the association and prevalence of LV systolic dysfunction(LVSD)by using these methods in patients with end-stage renal disease(ESrD)and severe hyperparathyroidism(SHPTH);both associated with cardiovascular events(CEs).AIM To evaluate the myocardial function in patients with ESrD and SHPTH by using the GLS and LVEF measured through conventional *** In 62 patients with ESrD and SHPTH,asymptomatic,and without a history of CEs,LVSF was evaluated by 2D-ECHO,obtaining the EF,by the Simpson biplane method,and GLS by speckle *** The total patients with ESrD had a preserved LVEF(>50%)but abnormal GLS(riate analysis showed an independent association of GLS and serum parathyroid hormone(PTH),LV mass index,and ***,PTH was independently associated with lateral e'wave and tricuspid regurgitation *** In patients with SHPTH linked to ESrD,the use of GLS by 2D-ECHO is a more sensitive tool than LVEF for detecting LVSD.
