Effects of morphology and concentration of CuS nanoparticles on alignment and electro-optic properties of nematic liquid crystal

Nanoparticles （NPs） with flower-like and frame morphologies were synthesized from CuS, a remarkable transition-metal sulfide. We introduced two kinds of CuS NPs into a nematic liquid crystal （LC） 4-cyano-4＇-n-pentylbiphenyl （5CB） and investigated the morphology- and concentration-dependent alignment and electro-optic （E-O） effects of CuS NPs on 5CB. A trace amount of flower-like CuS NPs induced a uniform homeotropic orientation of LC molecules; this is attributable to the obtained desirable compact nanosheet structure. Moreover, both flower-like and frame CuS NPs induced a remarkable improvement in the E-O properties of 5CB, and the flower-like CuS/5CB system exhibited a better performance. The doped CuS NPs in the LC host suppressed the shielding effect and strengthened the electric field, resulting in outstanding E-O properties. At a doping concentration of 0.05 wt.%, CuS NPs were well-dispersed and achieved the optimum E-O performance. This study provides a novel method for inducing a uniform orientation and enhanced E-O properties of LC molecules by doping with extraordinary CuS NPs, leading to potential applications in establishing flexible LC displays.

Transition metal selenides have aroused great attention in recent years due to their high theoretical ***,the huge volume fluctuation generated by conversion reaction during the charge/discharge process results in the significant electrochemical performance ***,the carbon-regulated copper(I)selenide(Cu_(2)Se@C)is designed to significantly promote the interface stability and ion diffusion for selenide *** systematic X-ray spectroscopies characterizations and density functional theory(DFT)simulations reveal that the Cu–Se–C bonding forming on the surface of Cu2Se not only improves the electronic conductivity of Cu_(2)Se@C but also retards the volume change during electrochemical cycling,playing a pivotal role in interface ***,the storage kinetics of Cu_(2)Se@C is mainly controlled by the capacitance process diverting from the ion diffusion-controlled process of *** employed this distinctive Cu_(2)Se@C as anode active material in Li coin cell configuration,the ultrahigh specific capacity of 810.3 ma·h·g^(−1)at 0.1 A·g^(−1)and the capacity retention of 83%after 1,500 cycles at 5 A·g^(−1)is achieved,implying the best Cu-based Li^(+)-storage capacity reported so *** strategy of heterojunction combined with chemical bonding regulation opens up a potential way for the development of advanced electrodes for battery storage systems.

The Omicron variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS‑CoV‑2)infected a substantial proportion of Chinese population,and understanding the factors underlying the severity of the disease and fatality is valuable for future prevention and clinical *** recruited 64 patients with invasive ventilation for COVID-19 and performed metatranscriptomic sequencing to profile host transcriptomic profiles,plus viral,bacterial,and fungal content,as well as virulence factors and examined their relationships to 28-day mortality were *** addition,the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)samples from invasive ventilated hospital/community-acquired pneumonia patients(HAP/CAP)sampled in 2019 were included for *** analysis revealed that all Omicron strains belong to BA.5 and BF.7 sub-lineages,with no difference in 28-day mortality between *** to HAP/CAP cohort,invasive ventilated COVID-19 patients have distinct host transcriptomic and microbial signatures in the lower respiratory tract;and in the COVID-19 non-survivors,we found significantly lower gene expressions in pathways related viral processes and positive regulation of protein localization to plasma membrane,higher abundance of opportunistic pathogens including bacterial Alloprevotella,Caulobacter,Escherichia-Shigella,Ralstonia and fungal Aspergillus sydowii and Penicillium *** analysis further revealed significant associations between host immune responses and microbial compositions,besides synergy within viral,bacterial,and fungal *** study presents the relationships of lower respiratory tract microbiome and transcriptome in invasive ventilated COVID-19 patients,providing the basis for future clinical treatment and reduction of fatality.

Site-testing is crucial for achieving the goal of scientific research and analysis of meteorological and optical observing conditions,one of the associated basic *** one of three potential sites to host the 12-meter Large Optical/infrared Telescope(LOT),the Muztagh-ata site,which is located on the Pamir Plateau in Xinjiang,in west China,began its site-testing task in the spring of *** this paper,we firstly start with an introduction to the site and then present a statistical analysis of the ground-level meteorological properties such as air temperature,barometric pressure,relative humidity,and wind speed and direction,recorded by an automatic weather station with standard meteorological sensors for a two-year *** also show the monitoring results of sky brightness during this period.

In this article,we present a detailed analysis of the statistical properties of seeing for the Muztaghata site which is a candidate site for hosting the future Chinese Large Optical/infrared Telescope(LOT)*** measurements were obtained with differential image motion monitors(DIMMs)from April2017 to November 2018 at different heights during different *** median seeings at 11 m and6 m are very close but significantly different from that on the *** mainly analyzed the seeing at11 m monthly and hourly,having found that the best season for observing was from late autumn to early winter and seeing tended to improve during the night only in *** analysis of the dependence on temperature inversion,wind speed and direction also was made and the best meteorological conditions for seeing are given.

Normal high-density lipoprotein(nHDL)can induce angiogenesis in healthy ***,HDL from patients with coronary artery disease undergoes various modifications,becomes dysfunctional(dHDL),and loses its ability to promote ***,we identified a long non-coding RNA,HDRACA,that is involved in the regulation of angiogenesis by *** this study,we showed that nHDL downregulates the expression of HDRACA in endothelial cells by activating WW domain-containing E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 2,which catalyzes the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of its transcription factor,Kruppel-like factor 5,via sphingosine 1-phosphate(S1P)receptor *** contrast,dHDL with lower levels of S1P than nHDL were much less effective in decreasing the expression of *** was able to bind to Ras-interacting protein 1(RAIN)to hinder the interaction between RAIN and vigilin,which led to an increase in the binding between the vigilin protein and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)mRNA,resulting in a decrease in the expression of PCNA and inhibition of *** expression of human HDRACA in a hindlimb ischemia mouse model inhibited the recovery of *** together,these findings suggest that HDRACA is involved in the HDL regulation of angiogenesis,which nHDL inhibits the expression of HDRACA to induce angiogenesis,and that dHDL is much less effective in inhibiting HDRACA expression,which provides an explanation for the decreased ability of dHDL to stimulate angiogenesis.

To verify the performance of the neutron total cross-sectional spectrometer, the neutron total cross section of carbon is initially measured in the energy range of 1 eV to 20 MeV using the time-of-flight method. The measurement is performed at the Back-n white neutron source with a 76-m time-of-flight path using the China Spallation Neutron Source. A multilayer fast fission chamber with 235U and 238U is employed as the neutron detector. The diameter and thickness of the natural graphite sample are 70 mm and 40 mm, respectively. Signal waveforms are collected using a data acquisition system. Off-line data processing was used to obtain the neutron time-of-flight spectra and transmissions. The uncertainty of the counting statistics is generally approximately 3% for each bin in the energy range of 1–20 MeV. It is determined that the results for the neutron total cross section of carbon obtained using ^235U cells are in good agreement with the results obtained using 238U cells within limits of statistical uncertainty. Moreover, the measured total cross sections show good agreement with the broadening evaluated data.

We present the observational results from a detailed timing analysis of the black hole candidate EXO 1846-031 during its outburst in 2019 with the observations of Insight-HXMT,NICER and *** outburst can be classified roughly into four different ***-C quasi-periodic oscillations(QPOs)observed by NICER(about 0.1-6 Hz)and Insight-HXMT(about 0.7-8 Hz)are also reported in this ***,we study various physical quantities related to QPO *** QPO rms-frequency relationship in the energy band 1-10 keV indicates that there is a turning pointing in frequency around2 Hz,which is similar to that of GRS 1915+105.A possible hypothesis for the relationship above may be related to the inclination of the source,which may require a high inclination to explain *** relationships between QPO frequency and QPO rms,hardness,total fractional rms and count rate have also been found in other transient sources,which can indicate that the origin of type-C QPOs is non-thermal.

Based on previous site testing and satellite cloud data,Ali,Daocheng and Muztagh-ata have been selected as candidate sites for the Large Optical/Infrared Telescope(LOT) in *** present the data collection,processing,management and quality analysis for our site testing based on using similar *** analyze meteorological data,seeing,background light,cloud and precipitable water vapor data from 2017 march 10 to 2019 march *** also investigated the relative usefulness of our all-sky camera data in comparison to that from the meteorological TERRA satellite data based on a night-by-night comparison of the correlation and consistency between *** find a 6% discrepancy arising from a wide range of factors.
