Could tumor characteristics identified by colonoscopy predict the locally advanced rectal carcinoma？

Background Neoadjuvant chemoradiation is now considered the standard care for locally advanced rectal carcinoma （T3-4 or/and N1-2 lesions）, but the accuracy of staging examinations including endorectal ultrasonography （ERUS） and MRI is far from excellent. In addition, the above staging equipment or professionals who perform the examinations may not be available in some hospitals, while preoperative colonoscopy and biopsy are usually obtainable in most *** objective of the present study was to investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics of locally advanced rectal carcinoma and identify candidates for neoadjuvant *** This was a retrospective study. Patients who were treated for rectal cancer at Changhai Hospital from January 1999 to July 2008 were identified from our prospectively collected database. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Software System （version 15.0）. The Mann-Whitney test, chi-square test and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were performed,Results A total of 1005 cases were included in this research, of which 761 cases were identified as locally advanced rectal carcinoma depending on postoperative TNM staging. The results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated seven independent risk factors that could be used to predict a locally advanced rectal carcinoma independently： a high grade （including poor differentiation and undifferentiation）（OR： 3.856; 95% CI： 2.064 to 7.204;P=0.000）; large tumor size （OR： 2.455; 95% CI： 1.755 to 3.436; P=0.000）; elevated preoperative serum CEA level （OR：1.823; 95% CI： 1.309 to 2.537; P=0.000）; non-polypoid tumor type （OR： 1.758; 95% CI： 1.273 to 2.427; P=0.001）; the absence of synchronous polyps （OR： 1.602; 95% CI： 1.103 to 2.327; P=0.013）; the absence of blood in stool （OR： 1.659;95% CI： 1.049 to 2.624; P=0.030）; and a greater circumferential tumor extent （OR： 1.813; 95% CI： 1.055 to 3,113;P=0.031）. Evolution mechanism and quantitative characterization of initial micro-cracks in marble under triaxial compression

The initial micro-cracks affect the evolution characteristics of macroscopic deformation and failure of rock but are often ignored in theoretical calculation,numerical simulation,and mechanical *** this study,we propose a quantitative analysis model to investigate the effects of initial micro-cracks on the evolution of marble deformation and *** relationship between the micro-crack propagation and the marble failure characteristics was comprehensively studied by combining theoretical analysis with a micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)scanning *** found that with the increase of confining pressure,the matrix elastic modulus of the marble first increased and then tended to be stable,while the micro-cracks increased *** sensitivity ranges of the marble sample matrix elastic modulus and micro-cracks to confining pressure were 0–30 MPa and 30–50 MPa,*** porosity and Poisson’s ratio decreased *** increasing proportion of internal micro-cracks led to an increase in the sample *** samples presented mainly shear failure under triaxial compression,and the failure angle decreased linearly with the increase of confining *** convergence direction of cracks decreased *** quantitative analysis model could accurately portray the relationship between the overall macroscopic deformation and the deviatoric stress of the samples at the compaction and the linear elastic stages,thus deepening the understanding of the stress–strain behavior of rocks.

Fabrication and properties of lightweight zirconia with fine closed porosity

Lightweight refractory materials with thermal insulation properties and erosion resistance are advantageous for hightemperature *** zirconia refractories were prepared using starch as a pore-forming agent,basic magnesium carbonate as a stabilizer,and nano-zirconia as an *** effects of the nano-zirconia content on the pore and thermal insulation properties of the lightweight zirconia refractories were investigated based on the porosity,phase composition,microstructure,and thermal ***-zirconia was shown to have a high surface energy,and its addition effectively increased the driving force for sintering,reduced the sintering temperature,and promoted the sintering reaction,thereby reducing the apparent porosity and improving the density of the prepared *** to the superplasticity of nano-zirconia,the surface stress caused plastic deformation between particles,which increased the migration rate of grain boundaries and trapped more gas inside the material before it diffused to the surface,thereby enhancing the closed porosity of the *** presence of closed pores could extend the thermal conduction path,decrease the conduction rate,and hinder the conduction effect to effectively reduce the thermal conductivity of the *** a nano-zirconia content of 0.75 wt.%,the prepared lightweight zirconia had the highest closed porosity and the lowest thermal *** apparent porosity,closed porosity,and total porosity of the material were 2.8%,7.0%,and 9.8%,respectively,and the thermal conductivity at 800℃was 1.37 W m^(-1)k^(-1).

PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber for zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors

Porous carbon fibers are promising cathodes for zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors(ZHSs)owing to their abundant active sites,great conductivity,and stable physical and chemical ***,designing a proper preparation technique to regulate the microstructure of carbon fibers still remains a great ***,a poly vinylpyrrolidone/po-lyacry lonitrile(PVP/PAN)-derived porous carbon fiber is developed via the PVP/PAN blend electrospinning and hydrothermal selective PVP removal *** hydrothermal selective PVP removal strategy can effectively avoid a cross-linking between PVP and PAN during the traditional stabilization at air *** PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber,the sufficient micropores provide abundant space for the Zn^(2+)storage,whereas the proper mesopores contribute to the fast ion *** hierarchical porous structures endow ZHSs with high specific capacity and high-rate *** ZHS assembled with the optimal PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber(PVP-PANC-0.8)displays an outstanding specific capacity of 208 mAh·g^(-1),high rate capability(49.5%)from 0.5 to 5 A·g^(-1),and 72.25%capacity retention after 10,000 cycles at 0.5 A·g^(-1).

Controlling of coordination state of Ru_(x)N_(y) clusters for efficient oxygen reduction electrocatalysis

Ruthenium(Ru)is an attractive potential alternative to platinum as an electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),in virtue of its high catalytic selectivity and relatively low *** this work,a series of well-dispersed nitrogen-coordinated Ru-clusters on carbon black(Ru_(x)N_(y)/C)were prepared by pyrolyzing different Ru-containing sandwich compounds as the Ru *** higher thermal stability of these complexed sandwich precursors(bis(1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)Ru(II)monomer,dichloro(p-cymene)Ru(II)dimer,and chloro(1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)Ru(II)tetramer)affords the control of coordinated state for the resulting Ru-clusters,in comparison of that derived from ruthenium *** the pyrolysis treatment,the Ru coordinated state in Ru_(x)N_(y)/C,with the Ru–N and Ru–Ru bonds,still showed the structural inheritance from the Ru(II)monomer,dimer,and tetramer,but using ruthenium chlorides as the Ru source resulted in the nanoscale Ru *** ORR testing exhibited that the Ru_(x)N_(y)/C sample derived from the Ru(II)tetramer(Ru_(x)N_(y)/C-T)presents the higher catalytic activity than the other obtained samples in either alkaline or acidic *** in the acidic electrolyte,Ru_(x)N_(y)/C-T shows the comparable ORR activity to that of Pt/C catalysts,and it shows the superior tolerance against methanol and *** X-ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations demonstrate that these tetra-nuclear Ru-clusters could be the most active site due to their broadened d-orbital bands and lower energy d-band center than those of other subnano species and nanocrystals,and their favorable Yeager-type adsorption of O_(2)-molecules is also contributed to promoting O–O bond cleavage and accelerating the ORR process.

Constructing hierarchical ZSM-5 coated with small ZSM-5 crystals via oriented-attachment and in situ assembly for methanol-to-aromatics reaction

Developing hierarchical and nanoscale ZSM-5 catalysts for diffusion-limited reactions has received ever-increasing attention. Here, ZSM-5 architecture integrated with hierarchical pores and nanoscale crystals was successfully prepared via in situ self-assembly of nanoparticles-coated silicalite-1. First, the oriented attachment of amorphous nanoparticles on external surface of silicalite-1 was achieved by controlling the alkalinity of Si-Al coating solution. The partial exposure of the external surface of silicalite-1 ensured the uniform removal of silicon in the bulk phase for the creation of hierarchical pores during the subsequent desilication-recrystallization. The uniform removal of silicon species in the bulk phase was mainly due to the synergistic effect of surface protection and alkaline etching, which could be balanced by regulating the relative amount of tetrapropylammonium cation and OH– in desilication-recrystallization solution. Importantly, the removed silicon from silicalite-1 recrystallized and in situ assembled into final ZSM-5 nanocrystals induced by surface Si-Al nanoparticles. The hierarchical pores and nanoscale crystals on this integrated architecture not only promoted the removal of coke precursors from micropores but also provided large external specific surface (91 m^(2)·g^(-1)) for coke deposition. Consequently, a much longer catalytic lifetime was achieved for methanol-to-aromatics reaction compared to conventional hollow structure ZSM-5 (84 h vs 46 h), with relatively high stability.

How interfacial electron-donating defects influence the structure and charge of gold nanoparticles on TiO_(2)support

The reduction degree of TiO_(2)support is critical to the performances of metal *** many previous theoretical calculations,only the bridge oxygen vacancy(Ov)was considered as the electron-donating defect on reduced rutile TiO_(2)(r-TiO_(2−x))***,titanium adatoms(Tiad.),oxidized titanium islands(***),and acid hydroxyls(ObrH)also exist at the metal/support *** conducting density functional theory(DFT)calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)simulations,we compared r-TiO_(2−x)surfaces with Ov,Tiad.,***,and ObrH sites loaded with Au nanoparticles(NPs).The results showed the Au NPs were oxygen-phobic but titanium-philic,resulting in wetting of Ov and *** short contact with *** and *** Bader charges of Au NPs(QM)showed a good linear relationship with the ideal number of donating electrons(Ne)from the defective sites(QM=−KeNe+QM,S),demonstrating the intrinsic electron allocation at the *** Ov,Tiad.,and *** exhibited similar slopes(Ke),relatively steeper than that of *** means in the scope of Au NP charge state,the *** *** have a close electron-donating ability with Ov,but the ObrH donates relatively fewer *** linear relationship can be extended approximately to other *** higher the metal work function,the steeper the Ke for easier electron donation from defective *** stronger the metal oxygen affinity,the more positive the intercept(QM,S).That explains the easy generation of metallic or negative Pt and Au NPs on r-TiO_(2−x),but hard for Cu and Zn in *** provides theoretical guidance for regulating the charge of metal NPs over TiO_(2−x)supports.

Preparation of yttrium oxide coating with enhanced thermal shock resistance on refractories used for titanium alloy melting and casting

In order to enhance the service life of refractories for melting and casting of titanium alloy,preparation of yttrium oxide coatings on the refractories surface is an effective *** improvement of thermal shock stability of the coating is beneficial to its spalling resistance during the high-temperature service,and the available slurry with good performance is the *** effects of the varieties and contents of dispersant(sodium tripolyphosphate,sodium hexametaphosphate,sodium pyrophosphate,citric acid and polycarboxylate ammonium salt)and binder(aluminum dihydrogen phosphate,zirconium acetate and yttria sol)on the stability,rheological and thixotropic properties of yttrium oxide waterbased slurry were investigated,and the effects of slurry composition design on the thermal shock resistance of the coating were *** results showed that the introduction of polycarboxylate ammonium salt as dispersant significantly improved the stability of the slurry,and the varieties of the binders had significant effects on the dispersibility of the *** aluminum dihydrogen phosphate and polycarboxylate ammonium salt were used as binder and dispersant,respectively,the slurry had better stability,suitable rheological and thixotropic *** using aluminum dihydrogen phosphate as binder,the coating had good thermal shock resistance and no obvious cracks were observed for the coating after thermal shock,which was attributed to the yttrium aluminate binding phase generated in the *** effective method was provided for preparing yttrium oxide coatings with enhanced thermal shock resistance applied in the process of titanium alloy melting and casting.

Performance Characterization of CR/PU Asphalt for Potential Application in Assembled Fast-Repairing Engineering

Conventional repairing methods for asphalt pavement have some inconveniences,such as insufficient strength,and are typically *** address these issues,this study proposes a new technological method to design and prepare a high-performance assembled asphalt concrete block for fast repair of the potholes.A series of composite modified asphalt binders with 10%crumb rubber(CR)and different dosages(0%,1%,3%,5%)of polyurethane(PU)are examined to determine the optimized ***,the corresponding asphalt mixtures are prepared for further comparison and assessment of engineering properties,such as moistureinduced damage,high-temperature deformation,and low-temperature cracking *** test results show that PU can significantly improve the high-temperature performance and hardness of(crumb rubber modified asphalt)CRMA binder;3%PU contributes allowing the resistance of CRMA mixture to moisture-induced damage at higher levels,particularly under water whole immersion;as 3%PU is added,the high-temperature rutting deformation resistance of the CRMA mixture increases significantly,and the low-temperature anti-cracking properties are also improved ***,the innovatively designed high-quality assembled fast-repairing asphalt concrete block is recommended as an appropriate option for highway maintenance.
