Ticagrelor Protects against Sepsis-Induced Acute Kidney Injury through an Adenosine Receptor-Dependent Pathway

Facile one-step synthesis of PdPb nanochains for high-performance electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation

The widespread application of direct ethanol fuel cells is hampered due to the low activity,high cost and poor operation durability of electrocatalysts for ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR).Herein,we report a one-pot synthetic method to synthesize PdPb3 nanochains with well-defined shape,size and composition via a solution-phase reduction *** morphology,composition distribution and structure characteristics of PdPb3 nanochains were investigated by transmission electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray *** to the unique structure,the as-obtained PdPb3 nanochains can manifest much higher mass activity(2523 mA·mg-1)and higher operation durability than commercial Pd/C(1272 mA·mg-1)during the EOR *** importantly,further CO-stripping measurements indicate that the incorporation of Pb species could favor the oxidative removal of CO intermediates on the Pd electrode at the negative potential and enhance the EOR activity and stability,making it possible to develop highly active and durable electrocatalysts.

STUDIES ON MARINE HUMIC SUBSTANCES *** OF HUMIC SUBSTANCES FROM SEAWATER WITH AN EFFECTIVE ADSORBENT,GDX-102 ADSORPTION RESIN

The adsorption efficiency of five home-made resins and Amberlite XAD-2 resin forhumic substances in seawater are ***-102 resin,a home-made adsorbent,could effectively adsorb the hydrophobicorganic matters,rather than the hydrophilic ones such as amino acids and *** same conditions,the amount of humic substances and ethenol-soluble matter adsorbedon GDX-102 resin were respectively 2.24 and 1.23 times more than that on Amberlite XAD-2 resin,and the water flow rate through GDX-102 resin column was 1.5 times faster thanthat through XAD-2 ***,GDX-102 resin is proved to be an effective adsorptionresin for isolating humic substances from seawater.2 The fulvic acids isolated with GDX-102 and Amberlite XAD-2 resins were chemi-cally characterized by determining their elementary composition,ultraviolet absorption spectra,E4/E6 ratio,infrared absorption spectra and gel electrophoresis *** comparisonof FA of seawater with that of soil showed a close similarity between *** elution of humic substances from GDX-102 resin with alkali,an ethanol-solublematter and an ether-soluble matter were isolated by elution with ethanol and ether *** former seemed to be organic compounds differing from FA both in elementary composition and in infrared absorption spectra and containing more hydrophobic portions,and the latter was identified by liquid chromatograph to be the polynuclear aromatic hydro-carbons（PAH）.The GDX-102 resin,therefore,might as well be an effective adsorptionresin for isolating PAH from seawater.

Role of non-coding RNAs in pancreatic cancer: The bane of the microworld

Our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the development of pancreatic cancer has been greatly advanced. However, the molecular events involved in the initiation and development of pancreatic cancer remain inscrutable. None of the present medical technologies have been proven to be effective in significantly improving early detection or reducing the mortality/morbidity of this disease. Thus, a better understanding of the molecular basis of pancreatic cancer is required for the identification of more effective diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), generally including microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs, have recently been found to be deregulated in many human cancers, which provides new opportunities for identifying both functional drivers and specific biomarkers of pancreatic cancer. In this article, we review the existing literature in the field documenting the significance of aberrantly expressed and functional ncRNAs in human pancreatic cancer, and discuss how oncogenic ncRNAs may be involved in the genetic and epigenetic networks regulating functional pathways that are deregulated in this malignancy, particularly of the ncRNAs’ role in drug resistance and epithelial-mesenchymal transition biological phenotype, with the aim of analyzing the feasibility of clinical application of ncRNAs in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

As a new type of iron-based superconductor, CaKFe_(4)As_(4) has recently been demonstrated to be a promising platform for observing Majorana zero modes (MZMs). The surface of CaKFe_(4)As_(4) plays an important role in realizing the MZM since it hosts superconducting topological surface states. However, due to the complicated crystal structure, the terminal surface of CaKFe_(4)As_(4) has not been determined yet. Here, by using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S), we find that there are two types of surface structure in CaKFe_(4)As_(4). Bias-dependent atomic resolution images show an evolvement from 2–√×2–√ superstructure with respect to the As lattice into 1 × 1 when the tip is brought close to the surface, revealing the sublattice of missing As atoms. Together with the first-principles calculations, we show that the surface As layer has a buckled structure. Our findings provide insight to future surface study of CaKFe_(4)As_(4) as well as other iron-pnictide superconductors.

Active immunization with GnRH-tandem-dimer peptide in young male rats reduces serum reproductive hormone concentrations, testicular development and spermatogenesis

GnRH sterilization vaccines have been developed for various practical and clinical reasons. However, conjugation of GnRH peptide to carrier protein has many drawbacks, hampering the further commercialization of GnRH vaccines. In this study, a new nonconjugated GnRH vaccine, D-Lys6-GnRH-tandem-dimer peptide （TDK）, emulsified in Specol adjuvant was investigated for its immunocastration efficacy in young male rats. Prepubertal male rats were randomly allocated into three groups （n = 12）： control （no treatment）, surgically castrated or immunized against 100 μg TDK in Specol adjuvant at 6 weeks of age （with a booster 8 weeks later）. Blood samples （for antibody titers and hormone concentrations） were collected at 2-week intervals until rats were killed （18 weeks of age）. Compared to intact controls, active immunization against TDK reduced （P〈 0.05） serum concentrations of testosterone, inhibin B, LH and FSH, prevented the onset of spermatogenesis at puberty. Furthermore, mRNA expressions of GnRH receptor, LH-β and FSH-β in the pituitary, LH receptor, FSH receptor, inhibin α, βA and βB subunit in the testes were decreased in immunocastrated rats compared to intact controls （P 〈 0.05）. These results demonstrate for the first time that GnRH-tandem-dimer peptide emulsified in Specol is a promising veterinary sterilization medicine.

Catalyst design strategies such as bi-functional and di-nuclear catalysts have been developed based on intramolecular interactions,achieving excellent catalytic ***,most of these catalysts work in a state of *** make progress in this direction,we reckoned that enhancing the neglected intermolecular interactions of these catalysts might be a suitable ***,we report a strategy of constructing homogeneous polymeric catalysts based on the philosophy of“unity makes strength”to convert the intermolecular interactions into stronger intramolecular *** united discrete active centers of aluminum(Al)porphyrin and tertiary amine(methyl methacrylate;MMA)via a random copolymerization process into one polymer chain with the subsequent metallization using low-toxic metal AlEt_(2)Cl,to construct polymeric catalysts for selective copolymerization of CO_(2)/*** spatial confinement enabled the multiple interactions among the active centers,which was distinct from the“point-to-point”interacting systems such as binary,bi-functional,or di-nuclear *** detailed tuning of the multiple synergistic effects between porphyrin/porphyrin(metal synergistic effect)and Al porphyrin/tertiary amine(Lewis pair effect),the optimized polymeric catalyst showed significantly boosted catalytic activity of 4300 h^(−1),much higher than their mono-nuclear(∼0 h^(−1))and homo-polymeric(750 h^(−1))*** present approach for designing polymeric catalysts based on multiple synergistic effects provides a platform for developing highly active catalysts.

Combined Study of Structural, Magnetic and Transport Properties of Eu_(0.5)Ln_(0.5)BiS_(2)F Superconductor

Superconductivity below 0.3 K and a charge-density-wave-like(CDW-like) anomaly at 280 K were observed in EuBiS_(2)F *** we report a systematic study of structural and transport properties in Eu_(0.5)Ln_(0.5)BiS_(2)F(Ln=La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm) by electrical resistivity,magnetization,and specific heat *** lattice constants have a significant change upon rare earth substitution for Eu,suggesting an effective *** Ln is changed from Sm to La,the superconducting transition temperature T_(c) increases from 1.55 K to 2.8 *** contrast to the metallic parent compound,the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity displays semiconductinglike behavior for all the Eu_(0.5)Ln_(0.5)BiS_(2)F ***,the CDW-like anomaly observed in EuBiS2F is completely *** the mixed valence state in the undoped compound,Eu ions in these rareearth-doped samples are mainly divalent.A specific anomaly at 1.3 K resembling that in EuBiS_(2)F suggests the coexistence of superconductivity and spin glass state for Eu_(0.5)Ln_(0.5)BiS_(2)*** of ferromagnetic order and superconductivity is found below 2.2 K in Eu_(0.5)Ln_(0.5)BiS_(2)F *** results supplies a rich diagram showing that many interesting properties can be induced in BiS_(2)-based compounds.

Coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagentic order in Er_(2)O_(2)Bi with anti-ThCr_(2)Si_(2) structure

We investigated the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetic order in the compound Er_(2)O_(2)Bi with anti-ThCr_(2)Si_(2)-type structure through resistivity,magnetization,specific heat measurements and first-principle *** superconducting transition temperature Tc of 1.23 K and antiferromagnetic transition temperature TN of 3 K are observed in the sample with the best nominal *** superconducting upper critical field H_(c2)(0)and electron-phonon coupling constantλe−ph in Er_(2)O_(2)Bi are similar to those in the previously reported non-magnetic superconductor Y_(2)O_(2)Bi with the same structure,indicating that the superconductivity in Er_(2)O_(2)Bi may have the same origin as in Y_(2)O_(2)*** first-principle calculations of Er_(2)O_(2)Bi show that the Fermi surface is mainly composed of the Bi 6p orbitals both in the paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic state,implying minor effect of the 4f electrons on the Fermi ***,upon increasing the oxygen incorporation in Er_(2)O_(x)Bi,Tc increases from 1 to 1.23 K and TN decreases slightly from 3 K to 2.96 K,revealing that superconductivity and antiferromagnetic order may compete with each *** Hall effect measurements indicate that hole-type carrier density indeed increases with increasing oxygen content,which may account for the variations of Tc and TN with different oxygen content.
