Low-carbon design towards sustainable city development:Integrating glass space with natural greenery

The rapid urban development has caused serious problems such as high energy consumption and carbon emissions,especially under the context of climate *** are particularly energy-intensive,generating about one third of global energyrelated carbon *** with active solutions(like mechanical systems),passive solutions offer the potential to balance energy consumption,thermal comfort,and ecological *** potential solution is the integration of green glass space(GGS)into passive building *** is a transitional building space with glass curtain walls that exhibit excellent insulation performance during ***,GGS is susceptible to overheating during summer,which limits its ***,this work proposes a strategy of integrating vertical greenery into GGS,leveraging the nature-based solution of greenery(i.e.,flourishes in summer and withers in winter)to address this seasonal challenge of *** results demonstrated that the strategic application of vertical greenery can effectively mitigate the overheating in GGS and improve comprehensive *** using full coverage of vertical greenery in a linear layout,the air temperature of GGS and cooling energy consumption were largely reduced by 8.02℃and 12.2%,respectively,while the carbon abatement was enhanced by up to 101.11 *** on a comprehensive evaluation of energy,economy,and environmental benefits,it is recommended to use a greenery configuration with 50%coverage in a vertical linear layout for *** integration of greenery into building design can mitigate adverse environmental impacts,reduce energy consumption,and contribute to the sustainable development of low-carbon cities.

Efficient simulation of spatially correlated non-stationary ground motions by wavelet-packet algorithm and spectral representation method

Although the classical spectral representation method(SRM)has been widely used in the generation of spatially varying ground motions,there are still challenges in efficient simulation of the non-stationary stochastic vector process in *** first problem is the inherent limitation and inflexibility of the deterministic time/frequency modulation *** difficulty is the estimation of evolutionary power spectral density(EPSD)with quite a few *** tackle these problems,the wavelet packet transform(WPT)algorithm is utilized to build a time-varying spectrum of seed recording which describes the energy distribution in the time-frequency *** time-varying spectrum is proven to preserve the time and frequency marginal property as theoretical EPSD will do for the stationary *** the simulation of spatially varying ground motions,the auto-EPSD for all locations is directly estimated using the time-varying spectrum of seed recording rather than matching predefined EPSD *** the constructed spectral matrix is incorporated in SRM to simulate spatially varying non-stationary ground motions using efficient Cholesky decomposition *** addition to a good match with the target coherency model,two numerical examples indicate that the generated time histories retain the physical properties of the prescribed seed recording,including waveform,temporal/spectral non-stationarity,normalized energy buildup,and significant duration.

The inflammatory microenvironment and neurotoxicity can hinder neuronal regeneration and functional recovery after spinal cord ***,a JAK-STAT inhibitor,exhibits effectiveness in autoimmune diseases,arthritis,and managing inflammatory cytokine *** studies have shown the neuroprotective potential of ruxolitinib in neurological trauma,the exact mechanism by which it enhances functional recovery after spinal cord injury,particularly its effect on astrocytes,remains *** address this gap,we established a mouse model of T10 spinal cord contusion and found that ruxolitinib effectively improved hindlimb motor function and reduced the area of spinal cord *** sequencing analysis showed that ruxolitinib alleviated inflammation and immune response after spinal cord injury,restored EAAT2 expression,reduced glutamate levels,and alleviated excitatory ***,ruxolitinib inhibited the phosphorylation of JAK2 and STAT3 in the injured spinal cord and decreased the phosphorylation level of nuclear factor kappa-B and the expression of inflammatory factors interleukin-1β,interleukin-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α.Additionally,in glutamate-induced excitotoxicity astrocytes,ruxolitinib restored EAAT2 expression and increased glutamate uptake by inhibiting the activation of STAT3,thereby reducing glutamate-induced neurotoxicity,calcium influx,oxidative stress,and cell apoptosis,and increasing the complexity of dendritic ***,these results indicate that ruxolitinib restores glutamate homeostasis by rescuing the expression of EAAT2 in astrocytes,reduces neurotoxicity,and effectively alleviates inflammatory and immune responses after spinal cord injury,thereby promoting functional recovery after spinal cord injury.

Few studies have investigated the spatial patterns of the air temperature urban heat island(AUHI)and its controlling *** this study,the data generated by an urban climate model were used to investigate the spatial variations of the AUHI across China and the underlying climate and ecological drivers.A total of 355 urban clusters were *** performed an attribution analysis of the AUHI to elucidate the mechanisms underlying its *** results show that the midday AUHI is negatively correlated with climate wetness(humid:0.34 K;semi-humid:0.50 K;semi-arid:0.73 K).The annual mean midnight AUHI does not show discernible spatial patterns,but is generally stronger than the midday *** urban–rural difference in convection efficiency is the largest contributor to the midday AUHI in the humid(0.32±0.09 K)and the semi-arid(0.36±0.11 K)climate *** release of anthropogenic heat from urban land is the dominant contributor to the midnight AUHI in all three climate *** rural vegetation density is the most important driver of the daytime and nighttime AUHI spatial variations.A spatial covariance analysis revealed that this vegetation influence is manifested mainly through its regulation of heat storage in rural land.

Bio-cementation for tidal erosion resistance improvement of foreshore slopes based on microbially induced magnesium and calcium precipitation

In most coastal and estuarine areas,tides easily cause surface erosion and even slope failure,resulting in severe land losses,deterioration of coastal infrastructure,and increased *** bio-cementation technique has been previously demonstrated to effectively improve the erosion resistance of *** contains magnesium ions(Mg^(2+))with a higher concentration than calcium ions(Ca^(2+));therefore,Mg^(2+)and Ca^(2+)were used together for bio-cementation in this study at various Mg^(2+)/Ca^(2+)ratios as the microbially induced magnesium and calcium precipitation(MIMCP)*** angles,surface strengths,precipitation contents,major phases,and microscopic characteristics of precipitation were used to evaluate the treatment *** showed that the MIMCP treatment markedly enhanced the erosion resistance of *** Mg^(2+)/Ca^(2+)ratios resulted in a smaller change in angles and fewer soil losses,especially the Mg^(2+)concentration below 0.2 *** decreased Mg^(2+)/Ca^(2+)ratio achieved increased precipitation contents,which contributed to better erosion resistance and higher surface ***,the production of aragonite would benefit from elevated Mg^(2+)concentrations and a higher Ca^(2+)concentration led to more nesquehonite in magnesium precipitation *** slopes with an initial angle of 53°had worse erosion resistance than the slopes with an initial angle of 35°,but the Mg^(2+)/Ca^(2+)ratios of 0.2:0.8,0.1:0.9,and 0:1.0 were effective for both slope stabilization and erosion mitigation to a great *** results are of great significance for the application of MIMCP to improve erosion resistance of foreshore slopes and the MIMCP technique has promising application potential in marine engineering.

Predicting Grain Yield and Protein Content in Winter Wheat at Different N Supply Levels Using Canopy Reflectance Spectra

A field experiment using a split-plot randomized complete block design with three replications was carried out to determine relationships between spectral indices and wheat grain yield （GY）, to compare the performance of four vegetation indices （VIs） for GY prediction, and to study the feasibility of VI to estimate grain protein content （GPC） in winter wheat. Two typical winter wheat （Triticum aestivum L.） cultivars ＇Xuzhou 26＇（high protein content） and ＇Huaimai 18＇（low protein content） were used as the main plot treatments and four N rates, i.e., 0, 120, 210, and 300 kg N ha^-1, as the sub-plot treatments. Increasing soil N supply significantly increased GY and GPC （P ≤ 0.05）. For the two cultivars combined, significant and positive correlations were found between four VIs and GY, with the strongest relationship observed when using the green ratio vegetation index （GRVI） at mid-filling. Cumulative VI estimates improved yield predictions substantially, with the best interval being heading to maturity stage. Similar results were found between VI and grain protein yield. However, when using cumulative VI, GPC showed no significant improvement. The strong relationship between leaf N status and GPC （R2 =0.9144 for ＇Xuzhou 26＇ and R2 = 0.8285 for ＇Huaimai 18＇） indicated that canopy spectra could be used to predict GPC. The strong fit between estimated and observed GPC （R2 = 0.7939） indicated that remote sensing techniques were potentially useful predictors of grain protein content and quality in wheat.

Ammonia(NH_(3))is an important raw material for modern agriculture and industry,being widely demanded to sustain the sustainable development of modern ***,the industrial production methods of NH_(3),such as the traditional Haber-Bosch process,have drawbacks including high energy consumption and significant carbon dioxide *** recent years,the electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction(NO_(3)RR)powered by intermittent renewable energy sources has gradually become a multidisciplinary research hotspot,as it allows for the efficient synthesis of NH_(3)under mild *** this review,we focus on the research of electrocatalysts with atomic-level site,which have attracted attention due to their extremely high atomic utilization efficiency and unique structural characteristics in the field of NO_(3)***,we introduce the mechanism of nitrate reduction for ammonia synthesis and discuss the in-situ characterization techniques related to the mechanism ***,we review the progress of the electrocatalysts with atomic-level site for nitrate reduction and explore the structure-activity relationship to guide the rational design of efficient ***,the conclusions of this review and the challenges and prospective of this promising field are presented.

Consensus-based Optimal Control Strategy for Multi-microgrid Systems with Battery Degradation Consideration

Consensus has been widely used in distributed control,where distributed individuals need to share their states with their neighbors through communication links to achieve a common ***,the objectives of existing consensus-based control strategies for energy systems seldom address battery degradation cost,which is an important performance indicator to assess the performance and sustainability of battery energy storage(BES)*** this paper,we propose a consensusbased optimal control strategy for multi-microgrid systems,aiming at multiple control objectives including minimizing battery degradation *** consensus is used to synchronize the ratio of BES output power to BES state-of-charge(SoC)among all microgrids while each microgrid is trying to reach its individual *** order to reduce the pressure of communication links and prevent excessive exposure of local information,this ratio is the only state variable shared between *** our complex nonlinear problem might be difficult to solve by traditional methods,we design a compressive sensing-based gradient descent(CSGD)method to solve the control *** simulation results show that our control strategy results in a 74.24%reduction in battery degradation cost on average compared to the control method without considering battery *** addition,the compressive sensing method causes an 89.12%reduction in computation time cost compared to the traditional Monte Carlo(MC)method in solving the control problem.

LQTTrack:Multi-Object Tracking by Focusing on Low-Quality Targets Association

Multi-object tracking (MOT) has seen rapid improvements in recent years. However, frequent occlusion remains a significant challenge in MOT, as it can cause targets to become smaller or disappear entirely, resulting in lowquality targets, leading to trajectory interruptions and reduced tracking performance. Different fromsome existing methods, which discarded the low-quality targets or ignored low-quality target attributes. LQTTrack, with a lowquality association strategy (LQA), is proposed to pay more attention to low-quality targets. In the association scheme of LQTTrack, firstly, multi-scale feature fusion of FPN (MSFF-FPN) is utilized to enrich the feature information and assist in subsequent data association. Secondly, the normalized Wasserstein distance (NWD) is integrated to replace the original Inter over Union (IoU), thus overcoming the limitations of the traditional IoUbasedmethods that are sensitive to low-quality targets with small sizes and enhancing the robustness of low-quality target tracking. Moreover, the third association stage is proposed to improve the matching between the current frame's low-quality targets and previously interrupted trajectories fromearlier frames to reduce the problem of track fragmentation or error tracking, thereby increasing the association success rate and improving overallmulti-object tracking performance. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the competitive performance of LQTTrack on benchmark datasets (MOT17, MOT20, and DanceTrack). © 2024 The Authors. Published by Tech Science Press.
