The recovery of lithium from hard rock minerals has received increased attention given the high demand for this element. There- fore, this study optimized an innovative process, which does not require a high-temperature calcination step, for lithium extraction from le- pidolite. Mechanical activation and acid digestion were suggested as crucial process parameters, and experimental design and re- sponse-surface methodology were applied to model and optimize the proposed lithium extraction process. The promoting effect of amorphi- zation and the formation of lithium sulfate hydrate on lithium extraction yield were assessed. Several factor combinations led to extraction yields that exceeded 90%, indicating that the proposed process is an effective approach for lithium recovery.

In large fusion experiments, such as tokamak devices, there is a common trendfor slow control systems. Because of complexity of the plants, the so-called 'Standard Model' (SM)in slow control has been adopted on several tokamak machines. This model is based on a three-levelhierarchical control: 1) High-Level control (HLc) with a supervisory function; 2) Medium-Levelcontrol (MLc) to interface and concentrate I/O field equipments; 3) Low-Level control (LLc) withhard real-time I/O function, often managed by PLcs. FTU control system designed with SM concepts hasunderwent several stages of developments in its fifteen years duration of runs. The latestevolution was inevitable, due to the obsolescence of the MLc cPUs, based on VME-MOTOROLA 68030 withOS9 operating system. A large amount of c code was developed for that platform to route the dataflow from LLc, which is constituted by 24 Westinghouse Numalogic Pc-700 PLcs with about 8000field-points, to HLc, based on a commercial Object-Oriented Real-Time database on Alpha/compaqTru64platform. Therefore, we have to look for cost-effective solutions and finally a compactPcI—Intelx86 platform with Linux operating system was chosen. A software porting has been done, taking intoaccount the differences between OS9 and Linux operating system in terms of Inter/Network Processescommunications and I/O multi-ports serial driver. This paper describes the hardware/softwarearchitecture of the new MLc system, emphasizing the reliability and the low costs of the open sourcesolutions. Moreover, a huge amount of software packages available in open source environment willassure a less painful maintenance, and will open the way to further improvements of the systemitself.

The objective of this small pilot study was to test the efficacy and potential development for the use of Praziquantel IM cestodicide in South African goats. Two farms were identified as infected with the cestode Moniezia spp, and a test herd as well as a control herd was set aside on each of these farms. Fecal float coprological analyses were performed before and after treatment of the test herds, while no treatment was administered to the animals in the control herds of each farm. Praziquantel treatment proofed to be effective in reducing cestode numbers based on egg counts using the Mac-Master method.

卷柏属Selaginella Beauv.是一个在分类上较困难的类群,种类多,形态变化大。全世界有卷柏属植物750种以上,可以分为5个亚属。2002年10月我们对武夷山脉及周边地区的卷柏种类进行了调查,采集的标本存放于新加坡国立大学标本馆(SINU)和厦门大学标本馆(AU)。此外,我们还认真观察了来自福建师范大学标本馆(FNU)和AU的卷柏标本。结果表明,在福建,卷柏有18种1变种。其中,缘毛卷柏S. ciliaris、白毛卷柏S. albociliata和布朗卷柏S. braunii是福建分布的3个新记录。

Race-specific disease resistance in plants is mediated by Resistance （R） proteins that recognize pathogen at- tack and initiate defence responses. Most R proteins contain a central NB-ARc domain and a c-terminal leucine-rich repeat （LRR） domain. We analyzed the intramolecular interaction of the LRR domain of tomato R protein Mi-1.2 with its N- terminus. We expressed the cc-NB-ARc and LRR parts in trans and analyzed functional transcomplementation and physical interactions. We show that these domains functionally transcomplement when expressed in trans. Known autoactivating LRR domain swaps were found to induce a hypersensitive response （HR） upon co-expression. Likewise, autoactivating mutants in the NB subdomain transcomplemented to induce HR. Point mutations in the ARc2 subdomain that induce strong autoactivation in the full-length Mi-1.2 protein, however, fail to induce HR in the transcomplementation assay, These data indicate distinct functions for the NB-ARc subdomains in induction of HR signalling. Furthermore, dissociation of the LRR is not required to release its negative regulation, as in all combinations of cc-NB-ARc and LRR domains tested, a physical interaction was observed.

Peroxyacetyl nitrate （PAN） is an important indicator of photochemical smog and has adverse effects on human health and vegetation growth. A rapid and h!ghly selective technique of thermal dissociation chemical ionization mass spectrometry （TD-cIMS） was recently developed to measure the abundance of PAN in real time; however, it may be subject to artifact in the presence of nitric oxide （NO）. In this study, we tested the interference of the PAN signal induced by NO, evaluated the performance of TD- cIMS in an urban environment, and investigated the concentration and formation of PAN in urban Hong Kong. NO caused a significant underestimation of the PAN signal in TD-cIMS, with the underestimation increasing sharply with NO concentration and decreasing slightly with PAN abundance. A formula was derived to link the loss of PAN signal with the concentrations of NO and PAN, which can be used for data correction in PAN measurements. The corrected PAN data from TD- cIMS were consistent with those from the commonly used gas chromatography with electron capture detection, which confirms the utility of TD-cIMS in an urban environment in which NO is abundant. In autumn of 2010, the hourly average PAN mixing ratio varied from 0.06 ppbv to 5.17 ppbv, indicating the occurrence of photochemical pollution in urban Hong Kong. The tbrmation efficiency of PAN during pollution episodes was as high as 3.9 to 5.9 ppbv per 100 ppbv ozone. The efficiency showed a near-linear increase with NO, concentration, suggesting a control policy of NO,. reduction for PAN pollution.

Recent advances in thermochemical storage technology have introduced a novel closed-loop thermal energy storage(TES)system,known as the heat battery(HB),which is believed to have great potential for aiding the energy transition in the built environment because of its higher energy density and neglectable storage loss compared to conventional TES *** order to investigate the potential use cases of the HB and provide practical feedback for its further development,this research employs a simulation-based approach to analyze its influence on building performance in various use cases within Dutch residential *** including the homeowner,distribution system operator,and district heating system operator are identified,and a preliminary list of use cases is defined based on relevant literature and input from the HB *** simulation approach is conducted to predict key performance indicators for each *** Kruskal-Wallis test was employed to sort and scrutinize the simulation outcomes and discern the significance of each use case *** findings demonstrated that the HB holds the potential to diminish both the operational energy cost by up to 30%for the homeowners and the peak heating load transmitted from the building to the district heating system.

Primary forests are spatially diverse terrestrial ecosystems with unique characteristics,being naturally regenerative and heterogeneous,which supports the stability of their carbon storage through the accumulation of live and dead ***,little is known about the interactions between biomass stocks,tree genus diversity and structure across a temperate montane primary ***,we investigated the relationship between tree structure(variability in basal area and tree size),genus-level diversity(abundance,tree diversity)and biomass stocks in temperate primary mountain forests across central and Eastern *** used inventory data from726 permanent sample plots from mixed beech and spruce across the carpathian *** used nonlinear regression to analyse the spatial variability in forest biomass,structure,and genus-level diversity and how they interact with plot-level tree age,disturbances,temperature and *** found that the combined effects of genus and structural indices were important for addressing the variability in biomass across different spatial *** processes in disturbance regimes and uneven tree age support forest hete rogeneity and the accumulation of live and dead biomass through the natural regeneration,growth and decay of the forest *** complexities in basal area index,supporte d by genus-level abundance,positively influence total biomass stocks,which was modulated by tree age and *** forests showed higher tree density and basal area than mixed beech forests,though mixed beech still contributes significantly to biomass across *** heterogeneity was strongly influenced by complexities in forest composition(tree genus diversity,structure).We addressed the importance of primary forests as stable carbon stores,achieved through structure and *** such ecosystems is critical for ensuring the stability of the primary forest,carbon store and biodiversity into the future.

Amorphous （Nd,Pr）13Fe80Nb1B6 ribbons were crystallized at 670-730°c for 5-25 min to study the effects of isothermal crystallization on their behavior and magnetic properties. XRD results indicate that the isothermal incubation time is 12, 5, and less than 5 min at 670, 700, and 730°c, respectively. High coercivities, with the maximum value of iHc = 1616 kA/m at 700°c for 19 min, measured by a physical property measurement system, are obtained in the crystallized ribbons. This is mainly attributed to the addition of Pr and Nb, because Pr2Fe14B has a higher anisotropic field than Nd2Fe14B, and Nb enriched in the grain boundary regions can not only reduce the exchange-coupling effects among hard grains, but also impede grain growth during the crystallization process. In addition, it should also be related to the characteristics of the furnace that the authors designed.

Natural fibers can play a major role in composite industry due to its renewable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly properties. Areca Fruit Husk （AFH） is rich in fiber, but is wasted in large quantity from tobacco industries. comprehensive characterization of AFH fiber is done to examine its morphological, physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties. High cellulose content of the fiber （57.35 wt%） provides better tensile strength （231.66 MPa） whereas the porous surface morphology （40.8 %） ensures better bonding with the matrix. Moreover, the low density of the fiber （0.78 ***^-3） makes it an attractive alternative for hazardous synthetic fibers. The semi-crystalline nature and large crystalline size of the fiber reduce the water absorption char- acteristics. The thermo gravimetric analysis confirms its stability up to 240℃, which is higher than the polymerization tem- perature. The results confirm the potential of AFH fibers as a reinforcement in bio-reinforced polymer composites for automo- tive and structural applications.
