In recent years it has become clear that the Milky Way is an important test- ing ground for theories of galaxy formation. Much of this growth has been driven by large surveys, both photometric and spectroscopic, which are producing vast and rich catalogs of data. Through the analysis of these data sets we can gain new and detailed insights into the physical processes which shaped the Milky Way＇s evolution. This review will discuss a number of these developments, first focusing on the disk of the Milky Way, and then looking at its satellite population. The importance of surveys has not gone unnoticed by the chinese astronomy community and in the final section we discuss a number of chinese projects that are set to play a key role in the development of this field.

Hematopoietic tumors are associated with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and a poor prognosis. Furthermore, their pathophysiology in dogs is not well understood. chronic lymphocytic leukemia has been rarely reported in golden retrievers, perhaps due to difficulties in diagnosis and care. An 8-year-old spayed female golden retriever was referred to our hospital with a 2-month history of fatigue, weakness, and selective appetite. The dog was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia based on blood smear evaluation. Despite treatment, the dog deteriorated and the owners opted for euthanasia. Histopathological examination revealed atypical lymphocytes in the spleen, extramedullary hematopoiesis in the spleen and liver, bone marrow depletion, moderate neutrophilic myocarditis, and acute renal tubular necrosis. In an immunohistochemical panel, cells in the spleen and bone marrow were positive for anti-cD20, anti-cD45, anti-cD3, anti-IBA-1, anti-Ki67, anti-MUM-1, and anti-PAX-5. In conclusion, the leukemia diagnosis was confirmed through reactive histiocytosis, marked extramedullary hematopoiesis, and other clinical and laboratory findings. Herein, we report a case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in a female dog with clinical, laboratory, and necroscopy findings.

The third-order optical nonlinearities and responses of poly（methyl methacrylate）（PMMA） coating films containing J-like aggregates of a thiadicarbocyanine dye, 3,3＇-diethyl-2,2＇-thiadicarbocyanine iodide （DTDc1）, are measured by degenerate four-wave mixing （DFWM） technique under resonant conditions. The temporal profiles of the DFWM signal of PMMA coating films containing J-like aggregates of DTDc1 are found to consist of three components： i.e., the coherent instantaneous nonlinear response （electronic response） and the two slow responses uqth decay time constants of about 0.8ps and about 7.0ps. The electronic component of the effective third-order nonlinear susceptibility, χc^（3）, of one of the present films is as high as about 2.1×10^-8 esu, and the figure of merit of third-order nonlinearity F （F=χ^（3）/α） is evaluated to be about 1.9 ×10^-13 esu cm at 850nm.

BAcKGROUND carcinosarcoma(spindle cell carcinoma) of the esophagus is an extremely rare event;the etiology and origins of this neoplasm have not yet been ***-mesenchymal transition(EMT) has been associated with invasion and metastasis, and may be related to the generation of a stem cell population within this *** SUMMARY We present the case of a 61-year-old male with nausea and fever. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed the presence of type 1 and 0-Ⅱc lesions located 35 cm from the incisors toward the esophago-gastric *** esophagectomy was performed. Macroscopic analysis revealed three polypoid lesions in the abdominal esophagus that accompanied the main lesion in the lower thoracic esophagus and 0-Ⅱc lesions that spread continuously with them. Histologically, the lesions included proliferating spindle cells. Adenocarcinomatous components were detected in a section near the foot, and squamous cell carcinoma was identified in the mucosa at the base of the *** patient was diagnosed with multiple carcinosarcomas, staged at pT1b(SM3),pN1(#110, #7), cM0, Stage Ⅱ(sarcomatous metastasis to the lymph nodes).Spindle cells did not express E-cadherin but were positive for EMT markers,including zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1, TWIST, and snail family transcriptional repressor 2. The patient has experienced no recurrence at 5 years and 2 mo after *** This report suggests that multiple sarcomatous tumors may be generated from primary squamous cell carcinoma via mechanisms related to EMT.

The large organic matter flow in tropical coastal areas is recognized as an important process in the global carbon(c) ***,the nature of organic matter flow in semi-enclosed tropical estuaries remains unclear due to the various environmental processes(tidal change,river flow,waves from the sea,and internal circulation) and organic matter sources ***,sediment organic matter(SOM) sources,and their distribution pattern,are key to understanding ecosystem material *** research in the Batan Bay Estuary,Philippines,a semi-enclosed estuary under large mangrove deforestation,was conducted to determine ecosystem properties through analysis of c and nitrogen stable isotope ratios and environmental ***,we determined that mangrove litter,microphytobenthos,and phytoplankton are the main SOM sources in the Batan Bay ***,the estuary was classified into three ecological zones(the Bay zone,Back-barrier zone,and River zone).In addition,we estimated SOM source ratios using the Stable Isotope Analysis in R package and determined different organic matter sources in different *** high ratios of mangrove litter as SOM indicate that a large amount of terrestrial plant organic matter remains despite the heavy mangrove deforestation that has occurred since the 1980 s,and that the Back-barrier zone consists of a different type of ecosystem that promotes accumulation of c from mangrove litter and micro phytobenthos.

We present a brief review of the most important efforts aimed at simulating single-walled carbon nanotube(SWNT)nucleation and growth processes using molecular dynamics(MD)techniques reported in the *** simulations allow the spatio-temporal movement of atoms during nonequilibrium growth to be ***,it is hoped that a successful MD simulation of the entire SWNT formation process will assist in the design of chirality-specic SWNT synthesis *** give special consideration to the role of the metal catalyst particles assumed in standard theories of SWNT formation,and describe the actual metal behavior observed in the reported MD simulations,including our own recent quantum chemical MD *** is concluded that the use of a quantum potential is essential for a qualitatively correct description of the catalytic behavior of the metal cluster,and that carbide formation does not seem to be a necessary requirement for nucleation and growth of SWNTs according to our most recent quantum chemical MD simulations.

Background:The Japanese Government settled a class litigation case with hepatitis B virus(HBV)carriers who claim to have been infected through needle/syringe sharing in childhood mass vaccination with a blanket compensation ***,it is difficult to estimate how many of the present HBV carriers were infected horizontally from mass vaccination and how many were infected vertically from ***:A mathematical model to predict the risk of infection through needle/syringe sharing in mass vaccination was proposed and a formula was *** formula was presented in a logarithmic graph enabling users to estimate how many people will be infected if a needle/syringe is shared by how many people for how many times under certain probability of *** formula was then applied to the historical data of mass tuberculin skin tests(TSTs)and BcG inoculation,from which a best estimate of how much needle/syringe sharing was practiced in different birth cohorts was ***:For the oldest cohort born between 1951 and 1955,the prevalence of HBV carriers-0.65%at birth through vertical transmission-more than doubled in 1995(1.46%)through horizontal *** the probability of infection through needle/syringe sharing is assumed to be 10%,it is theoretically likely that an average of five or more people shared a needle/syringe four times to achieve the prevalence of HBV carriers in ***,for the youngest cohort born between 1981 and 1985,the effects of needle/syringe sharing were negligible because the later prevalence of HBV carriers was lower than the prevalence at ***:More than half of the HBV carriers born in the early 1950s might have contracted the disease by mass ***’s experience needs to be shared with other countries as a caution in conducting mass vaccination programs under scarce needle/syringe supply(291 words).

AIM:To allow the identification of high-risk postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)patients with special reference to the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula(ISGPF)***:Between 1997 and 2010,1341 consecutive patients underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer at the Department of Digestive Surgery,Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine,*** on the preoperative diagnosis,total or distal gastrectomy and sufficient lymphadenectomy was performed,mainly according to the Japanese guidelines for the treatment of gastric *** these,35 patients(2.6%)were diagnosed with Grade B or c POPF according to the ISGPF classification and were treated *** hospital records of these patients were reviewed ***:Of 35 patients with severe POPF,17(49%)and 18(51%)patients were classified as Grade B and c POPF,*** several clinical factors,the severity of POPF according to the ISGPF classification was significantly correlated with the duration of intensive POPF treatments(P=0.035).Regarding the clinical factors to distinguish extremely severe POPF,older patients(P=0.035,65 years≤vscyte counts at the diagnosis of POPF(P=0.007,cantly correlated with Grade c POPF,and a low lymphocyte count was an independent risk factor by multivariate analysis[P=0.045,OR=10.45(95%cI:1.050-104.1)].cONcLUSION:caution and intensive care are required for older POPF patients and those with lower lymphocyte counts at the diagnosis of POPF.
