AIM:To assess the prognostic significance of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) and its target genes in gastric cancer. METHODS:The tumor tissues of 115 patients with gastric cancer were immunohistochemically evaluated using monoclonal antibodies against NF-kB RelA. Preoperative serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interleukin-6 (IL-6) were assessed via enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay. c-reactive protein (cRP) and serum amyloid A (SAA) were measured via immunotrubidimetry. RESULTS:Positive rate of NF-kB RelA was 42.6%. NF-kB RelA expression in tumor tissues was also related to serum levels of IL-6 (P = 0.044) and cRP (P = 0.010). IL-6, SAA, cRP were related to depth of invasion, VEGF and SAA were correlated with lymph node metastasis. IL-6, VEGF, SAA and cRP were related to the stage. Univariate analysis demonstrated that immunostaining of NF-kB RelA, levels of IL-6, VEGF, SAA were significantly related with both disease free survival and over-all survival (OS). Multivariate analysis verified that NF-kB RelA [hazard ratio (HR): 3.40, P = 0.024] and SAA (HR: 3.39, P = 0.045) were independently associated with OS. cONcLUSION: Increased expression of NF-kB RelA and high levels of serum SAA were associated with poor OS in gastric cancer patients.

High-performance GaInP/AlGaInP multi-quantum well light-emitting diodes(LEDs) grown on a low threading dislocation density(TDD) germanium-on-insulator(GOI) substrate have been demonstrated. The low TDD of the GOI substrate is realized through Ge epitaxial growth, wafer bonding, and layer transfer processes on 200 mm wafers. With O_2 annealing, the TDD of the GOI substrate can be reduced to ~1.2 × 10~6 cm^(-2). LEDs fabricated on this GOI substrate exhibit record-high optical output power of 1.3 mW at a 670 nm peak wavelength under 280 mA current injection. This output power level is at least 2 times higher compared to other reports of similar devices on a silicon(Si) substrate without degrading the electrical performance. These results demonstrate great promise for the monolithic integration of visible-band optical sources with Si-based electronic circuitry and realization of high-density RGB(red, green, and blue) micro-LED arrays with control circuitry.

Malicious traffic detection over the internet is one of the challenging areas for researchers to protect network infrastructures from any malicious *** shortcomings of a network system can be leveraged by an attacker to get unauthorized access through malicious *** from such attacks requires an efficient automatic system that can detect malicious traffic timely and avoid system ***,many automated systems can detect malicious activity,however,the efficacy and accuracy need further improvement to detect malicious traffic from multi-domain *** present study focuses on the detection of malicious traffic with high accuracy using machine learning *** proposed approach used two datasets UNSW-NB15 and IoTID20 which contain the data for IoT-based traffic and local network traffic,*** datasets were combined to increase the capability of the proposed approach in detecting malicious traffic from local and IoT networks,with high *** merging both datasets requires an equal number of features which was achieved by reducing feature count to 30 for each dataset by leveraging principal component analysis(PcA).The proposed model incorporates stacked ensemble model extra boosting forest(EBF)which is a combination of tree-based models such as extra tree classifier,gradient boosting classifier,and random forest using a stacked ensemble *** results show that EBF performed significantly better and achieved the highest accuracy score of 0.985 and 0.984 on the multi-domain dataset for two and four classes,respectively.

Mg alloys exhibit a number of good properties such as low density, good castability and high specific strength. However, molten Mg and Mg alloys are ignited without the melt protective gases during melting and casting process due to their high reactivity. The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of ca and caO on pure Mg through microstructure observation, ignition test and phase analysis. With increasing ca and caO contents, the ignition resistance of ca or caO added pure Mg is increased and the grains are refined. As results of XRD and EDS, caO is reduced to ca in caO added pure Mg. Mg2ca phase is formed even in 0.1 wt.%caO added pure Mg by reduction mechanism, while Mg2ca phase is formed over 1.35 wt.% ca added pure Mg.

Background The benefit of statin use after acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction （STEMI） has been well established, however, the influence of the timing of statin administration has not been elucidated. The objective of this study focused on early clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention （PcI）. Methods This analysis of the Korea Working Group on Myocardial Infarction registry （KorMI） study included 3,584 STEMI patients （mean age, 63 ±13 years;male, 2,684, 74.9%） undergoing PcI from January 2008 to June 2009. Rates of major adverse cardiac events （MAcE：all-cause death, recurrent MI, and target lesion revascularization） were compared among patients grouped according to statin therapy timing：I, both during and after hospitalization （n=2,653, 74%）;II, only during hospita-lization （n=309, 8.6%）;III, only after discharge （n=157, 4.4%）;and IV, no statin therapy （n=465, 13%）. Mean follow-up duration was 234 ± 113 days. Results Multivariate factors of statin use during hospitalization included prior statin use, multiple diseased vessels, final thrombolysis in myocardial infarction flow grade III, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level. At 6-month follow-up, groups Ⅲ and Ⅳ had the highest MAcE rates （2.3%, 3.9%, 5.1%, and 4.9%for groups I-IV, respectively, P=0.004）. After adjusting for confounders, groups Ⅱ-Ⅳ had a higher MAcE risk than group Ⅰ [hazard ratio （HR）：3.20, 95%confidence interval （95%cI）：1.31-7.86, P=0.011;HR：3.84, 95%cI：1.47-10.02, P=0.006;and HR：3.17, 95%cI：1.59-6.40, P=0.001;respectively]. conclusions This study, based on the national registry database, shows early and continuous statin therapy improvs early outcomes of STEMI patients after PcI in real-world clinical prac-tice.

Electrochemically metal-doped reduced graphene oxide films:Properties and applications

The fine control of doping levels in graphene materials such as reduced graphene oxide(RGO)is important to properly manipulate their ambipolar transport characteristics for various device ***,conventional doping methods involve complex chemical reactions,large-scale doping processes,and poor ***,a simple and controllable electrochemical doping treatment(EDT),performed via the conductive channels created at the RGO surface by the application of an electric field,is introduced to tailor the electrical properties of RGO films.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy measurements are performed to detect the presence of Ni atoms in RGO films after the EDT(EDT-RGO).Then,EDT-RGO field-effect transistors(FETs)are fabricated with different doping areas(0 to 100%fractional area)on the RGO active channel to investigate the effect and selective-area doping capability of the *** to p-type doping compensation by the intercalated Ni atoms,the electron mobility of the EDT-RGO FET decreases from 1.40 to 0.12 cm2 V-1s-1 compared with that of the undoped RGO-FET,leading to the conversion from ambipolar to unipolar p-type transfer characteristics.

Quality of life for primary caregivers of muscular dystrophy patients in South Korea

Background Although some studies measured the burden of caregivers and the factors that influenced their feelings of burden, few studies have measured the quality of life （QOL） for primary caregivers of patients with muscular dystrophy （MD）. We assessed the QOL for primary caregivers of patients with MD in South Korea and identified factors associated with caregivers＇ QOL. Methods Ninety dyads of patients with MD and their primary caregivers were enrolled in this study. The QOL of caregivers of patients with MD was assessed subjectively using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment, Life Brief Form. caregivers＇ emotional status was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory （BDI） and family function level was evaluated using the Family APGAR scale. Patients reported their emotional status using the BDI or the children＇s Depression Inventory. The functional levels of patients were evaluated by the modified Barthel Index. Results caregivers＇ QOL was statistically associated with family income, family function, emotional status of patients, level of education, and emotional status of caregivers （P 〈0.05）. caregivers who were employed had a significantly higher QOL than those who were not （P 〈0.05）. In multiple regression analyses, emotional and employment status of caregivers was strongly associated with caregivers＇ QOL. conclusion Rehabilitation teams should consider not only the physical factors of patients but also the psychological and demographic factors of primary caregivers of patients with MD.

Relationship between insulin resistance, obesity and serum prostate-specific antigen levels in healthy men

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between insulin resistance, obesity and serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） levels in healthy men with serum PSA level below 4 ng mL-1. The men included in the study cohort were 11 827 healthy male employees of the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power co., LTD who had undergone medical checkups including fasting glucose, fasting insulin and serum PSA between January 2003 and December 2008. Insulin resistance was calculated by homeostasis model assessment （HOMA [fasting glucose × fasting insulin]/22.5） and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index （QUIcK/; 1/[log （fasting insulin）＋ log （fasting glucose）]）. Age-adjusted body mass index （BMI） was significantly increased according to increasing quartile of insulin resistance as determined by HOMA and QUIcKI, respectively, in analysis of variance （ANOVA） test and Duncan＇s multiple comparison test （P 〈 0.001）, but age-adjusted serum PSA concentration was significantly decreased according to increasing quartile of insulin resistance as determined by HOMA and QUIcK/（P 〈 0.001）. Age, BMI, insulin resistance by HOMA or QUIcK/were significantly independent variables to serum PSA level in a multivariate linear regression analysis （P 〈 0.001）. Insulin resistance was a significant independent variable to serum PSA level along with BMI. Insulin resistance and BMI were negatively correlated with serum PSA level in healthy men. Insulin resistance was positively correlated with BMI.
