Numerous studies have shown that the nucleosome is a dynamic structure that strongly influences gene expression. Dynamism concerns different nucleosomal characteristics, including position, posttranslational modifications, and histone composition. Thus, within the nucleosome, canonical histones can be exchanged by histone variant proteins with specific functions--a process known as ‘histone replacement＇. The histone variant H2A.Z has an important function in transcription and, during the last few years, its role in plant development and immune response has become evident. compiling genetic and biochemical studies from several laboratories has revealed that plants contain a multiprotein complex, similar to the SWR1/SRcAP complex from yeast and animals, involved in H2A.Z deposition. Despite intense research in different organisms, the mechanism by which H2A.Z influences transcription is still unknown. However, recent results from Arabidopsis have shown a strong inverse correlation between H2A.Z and DNA methylation, suggesting that H2A.Z might protect genes from silencing.

Germinal centers(Gcs)are essential for the establishment of long-lasting antibody responses.Gc B cells rely on post-transcriptional RNA mechanisms to translate activation-associated transcriptional programs into functional changes in the cell proteome.However,the critical proteins driving these key mechanisms are still unknown.Here,we show that the RNA binding proteins TIA1 and TIAL1 are required for the generation of long-lasting Gc responses.TIA1-and TIAL1-deficient Gc B cells fail to undergo antigen-mediated positive selection,expansion and differentiation into B-cell clones producing high-affinity antibodies.Mechanistically,TIA1 and TIAL1 control the transcriptional identity of dark-and light-zone Gc B cells and enable timely expression of the prosurvival molecule McL1.Thus,we demonstrate here that TIA1 and TIAL1 are key players in the post-transcriptional program that selects high-affinity antigen-specific Gc B cells.

This work proposes a soft sensor based on a phenomenological model for online estimation of the density and viscosity of a slurry flowing through a pipe-and-fittings assembly(PFA). The model is developed considering the conservation principle applied to mass and momentum transfer and considering frictional energy losses to include the variables directly affecting slurry properties. A reported proposal for state observers with unknown inputs is used to develop the first block of the observer structure. The second block is constructed with two options for evaluating slurry viscosity, generating two possible estimator structures, which are tested using real data. A comparison between them indicates different uses and capabilities according to available process information.

Human proximity often have negative consequences for wildlife. However, animals may also benefit from human proximity in terms of availability of resources and protection against predators and parasites. We recorded the distance between all birds detected during the breeding season along 18 5-km transects and the nearest inhabited house in three areas of 50 km in Spain, France, and Denmark. More than three quarters of birds were located closer than 100 m to the nearest house, while the null expectation was less than a third. Mean distance for species was correlated with degree of bird urbanization and with flight initiation distance. Habitat specialist species with small breeding territories tended to live closer to houses. Birds from species having more broods per year, larger annual fecundity and lower nest predation rate lived closer to human habitation. Breeding range size, population density, and continental breeding population sizes were larger for species living closer to human habitation. Most relationships between distance to houses and bird traits had a strong phylogenetic signal, but most additive trait effects remained after phylogenetic correction. Proximity to human habitation was a main driver of the distribution of birds, with most individuals and species tightly linked to inhabited houses. Living close to human habitation was associated with success in the colonization of urban habitats and with consistent changes in distribution, abundance, behavior, and life history. Replicated measurements of the spatial and temporal variation in these distributions may be useful for monitoring and analyzing the ongoing process of organisms' urbanization.

The behavioral responses of virgin and mated female Anastrepha striata Schiner （Diptera： Tephritidae） to guava （Psidium guajava L.） or sweet orange （citrus sinensis L.） were evaluated separately using multilure traps in two-choice tests in field cages. The results showed that flies were more attracted to guava and sweet orange volatiles than to control （unbaited trap）. The physiological state （virgin or mated） of females did not affect their attraction to the fruit volatiles. combined analysis of gas chromatography coupled with electroantennography （Gc-EAD） of volatile extracts of both fruits showed that 1 and 6 compounds from orange and guava, respectively elicited repeatable antennal responses from mated females. The EAD active compounds in guava volatile extracts were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （Gc-MS） as ethyl butyrate, （Z）-3-hexenol, hexanol, ethyl hexanoate, hexyl acetate, and ethyl octanoate. Linalool was identified as the only antennal active compound in sweet orange extracts. In field cage tests, there were no significant differences between the number of mated flies captured by the traps baited with guava extracts and the number caught by traps baited with the 6-component blend that was formulated according to the relative proportions in the guava extracts. Similar results occurred when synthetic linalool was evaluated against orange extracts. From a practical point of view, the compounds identified in this study could be used for monitoring A. striata populations.

We present the structural,morphological and photocatalytic properties of stretchable composites made with carbon nanotubes (cNTs),silicon rubber and Ni@TiO_(2):W nanoparticles(TiWNi NPs) with average size of 37±2 nm.Microscopy images showed that the TiWNi NPs decorated the surface of the cNT fibers,which are oriented in a preferential direction.TiWNi NPs presented a mixture of anatase/rutile phases with cubic structure.The performance of the TiWNi powders and stretchable composites was evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac (DcF) anti-inflammatory drug under ultraviolet-visible light.The results revealed that the maximum DcF degradation percentages were 34.6%,91.9%,97.1%,98.5%and 100%for the cNT composite (stretched at 0%),TiWNi powders,cNT+TiWNi(stretched at 0%),cNT+TiWNi (stretched at 50%) and cNT+TiWNi (stretched at 100%),respectively.Thus,stretching the cNT+TiWNi composites was a good strategy to enhance the DcF degradation percentage from 97.1%to 100%,since stretching created additional defects (oxygen vacancies) that acted as electron sink,delaying the electron-hole recombination,and favors the DcF degradation.Raman/absorbance measurements confirmed the presence of such defects.Moreover,the reactive oxygen species (ROS) were determined by the scavenger’s experiments and found that the main ROS were the·OH and O_(2)-radicals,which attacked the DcF molecules,causing their degradation.The results of this investigation confirmed that the stretchable cNT/TiWNi-based composites are a viable alternative to remove pharmaceutical contaminants from water and can be manually separated from the decontaminated water,which is unviable using photocatalytic powders.

Smart healthcare has become a hot research topic due to the contemporary developments of Internet of Things(IoT),sensor technologies,cloud computing,and others.Besides,the latest advances of Artificial Intelligence(AI)tools find helpful for decision-making in innovative healthcare to diagnose several diseases.Ovarian cancer(Oc)is a kind of cancer that affects women’s ovaries,and it is tedious to identify Oc at the primary stages with a high mortality rate.The Oc data produced by the Internet of Medical Things(IoMT)devices can be utilized to differentiate Oc.In this aspect,this paper introduces a new quantum black widow optimization with a machine learningenabled decision support system(QBWO-MLDSS)for smart healthcare.The primary intention of the QBWO-MLDSS technique is to detect and categorize the Oc rapidly and accurately.Besides,the QBWO-MLDSS model involves a Z-score normalization approach to pre-process the data.In addition,the QBWO-MLDSS technique derives a QBWO algorithm as a feature selection to derive optimum feature subsets.Moreover,symbiotic organisms search(SOS)with extreme learning machine(ELM)model is applied as a classifier for the detection and classification of ELM model,thereby improving the overall classification performance.The design of QBWO and SOS for Oc detection and classification in the smart healthcare environment shows the study’s novelty.The experimental result analysis of the QBWO-MLDSS model is conducted using a benchmark dataset,and the comparative results reported the enhanced outcomes of the QBWO-MLDSS model over the recent approaches.

Urbanization of species is an ongoing process where successful urban colonizers usually obtain large fitness benefits. Mechanisms proposed to explain associations between urbanization and life-history traits are based on behavioral flexibility in food and habitat use and reduced fear responses. We test the novel hypothesis that interspecific competition for proximity to humans is driving urbanization. We recorded the distance during the breeding season to human habitation for 50 pairs of closely related bird species, where one was closely associated with humans while the other species was not. The degree of urbanization was larger as was range size and abundance in the species more closely associated to humans. Flight initiation distance was shorter, and species closely associated with humans were more abundant in ancestral rural habitats. Likewise, species more closely associated with humans reproduced earlier and during longer periods. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that urbanization is promoted by interspecific competition. Resulting isolation by urban habitat may further facilitate contemporary adaptation to urban environments.

Maintaining soil phosphorus(P) at adequate levels for plant growth requires assessing how the long-term P balance(viz., the difference between P inputs and outputs) results in changes in soil test P. The hypothesis that routinely measured soil properties can help predict the conversion factor of P balance into Olsen P was tested at 39 sites in agricultural areas of the Mediterranean region in Spain. A set of soil samples from each site was analyzed for Olsen P, inorganic P(P extracted using 0.5 mol L^(-1) H_2SO_4), pseudototal P(P extracted using 0.5 mol L^(-1) H_2SO_4 following ignition at 550℃), and organic P(the difference between pseudototal P and inorganic P). Organic and Olsen P were uncorrelated in most of the 39 soil sets, which suggests that organic P content changed little with P inputs and outputs. The slopes of the regression lines of Olsen P against pseudototal and inorganic P, which were used as two different measures of the conversion factor, ranged widely(from 0.03 to 0.25 approximately), with their average values(about 0.10) being similar to those found in long-term experiments conducted in temperate areas. Neither conversion factor was significantly correlated with any routinely measured soil property; however, the conversion factor for inorganic P was significantly lower for calcareous soils than for noncalcareous soils. Our negative results suggest the need to isolate the influence of soil properties from that of management systems and environmental factors relating to P dynamics in future studies.
