New two-dimensional systems such as the surfaces of topological insulators （TIs） and graphene offer the possibility of experimentally investigating situations considered exotic just a decade ago. These situations include the quantum phase transition of the chiral type in electronic systems with a relativistic spectrum. Phonon-mediated （conventional） pairing in the Dirac semimetal appearing on the surface of a TI causes a transition into a chiral superconducting state, and exciton condensation in these gapless systems has long been envisioned in the physics of narrow-band semiconductors. Starting from the microscopic Dirac Hamiltonian with local attraction or repulsion, the Bardeen- cooper-Schrieffer type of Gaussian approximation is developed in the framework of functional integrals. It is shown that owing to an ultrarelativistic dispersion relation, there is a quantum critical point governing the zero-temperature transition to a superconducting state or the exciton condensed state. Quantum transitions having critical exponents differ greatly from conventional ones and belong to the chiral universality class. We discuss the application of these results to recent experiments in which surface superconductivity was found in TIs and estimate the feasibility of phonon pairing.

Euclidean clifford analysis is a higher dimensional function theory centred around monogenic functions, i.e., null solutions to a first order vector valued rotation in- variant differential operator called the Dirac operator. More recently, Hermitian clifford analysis has emerged as a new branch, offering yet a refinement of the Euclidean case; it focuses on the simultaneous null solutions, called Hermitian monogenic functions, to two Hermitian Dirac operators and which are invariant under the action of the unitary group. In Euclidean clifford analysis, the Teodorescu operator is the right inverse of the Dirac operator __0. In this paper, Teodorescu operators for the Hermitian Dirac operators c9~_ and 0_~, are constructed. Moreover, the structure of the Euclidean and Hermitian Teodor- escu operators is revealed by analyzing the more subtle behaviour of their components. Finally, the obtained inversion relations are still refined for the differential operators is- suing from the Euclidean and Hermitian Dirac operators by splitting the clifford algebra product into its dot and wedge parts. Their relationship with several complex variables theory is discussed.

Background: Heart disease is now considered an inflammatory process targeted primarily by medical therapy on lipid levels. complementary and alternative medicine searches for novel non-pharmacologic therapy, including pursuing various diets. Animal studies and consumer literature suggest benefits of vinegar on lipid levels and diabetes mellitus. Our nonrandomized pilot study from our group suggested a benefit in raising high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). Based on this data, we conducted a randomized placebo controlled clinical trial to determine the effects of apple cider vinegar intake in those without diabetes mellitus on total cholesterol (Tc), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), triglycerides, HDL-c, Hemoglobin A1c(Hgb-A1c) and measurement of inflammation with high sensitivity cRP levels (HS-cRP). Methods: A prospective randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial consisting of 114 participants was conducted. Participants consumed 30 mL of either apple cider vinegar or placebo for two months. Measurements were collected at baseline, eight and sixteen weeks. The primary endpoint was the change in HDL-c from baseline to eight weeks between the vinegar and placebo groups. Secondary endpoints were change from baseline to eight weeks in Tc, LDL-c, triglycerides, Hgb-A1cand HS-cRP. Results: change in serum HDL-c concentration was not significantly different between the vinegar and control groups after eight weeks of supplementation. Secondary endpoints including Tc, LDL-c, Hgb-A1cand HS-cRP were not statistically different at the Bonferroni corrected significance level of 0.01. No significant difference was found regardless of baseline HDL-c levels. conclusions: We found no significant difference in HDL-c, LDL-c, triglycerides, total cholesterol, or HS-cRP levels with use of vinegar but a trend down of Hgb-A1cin this group of non-diabetic participants. Purpose The purpose of the study was to investigate the acute effect of a beginner martial art class and aerobic exercise on executive function(EF)in college-aged young *** is overwhelming evidence that demonstrates acute as well as long-term aerobic exercise improves ***,there is limited research comparing externally paced exercise(EPE)to self-paced exercise(SPE)such as walking on improving *** requires greater cortical demand than SPE to execute a motor *** Eight men and eight women,aged 24.2±2.8 years,participated in a Repeated Measures crossover ***-and post-testing of EF with the Stroop and Tower of London(ToL)and stress level were measured after each of the two 1-h conditions:the SPE consisted of a walk(aerobic exercise)and the EPE was a beginner martial art *** There were significant main effects for the martial art class for the Stroop’s mean reaction time for congruent trials(P=0.01)with a large-effect *** mean reaction time for incongruent trials was significant(P=0.05)with a medium-effect *** ToL’s mean solution time(P=0.003)and mean execution time(P=0.002)were also significant with large-effect *** levels were not significantly improved following either *** The martial art class significantly improved all the major domains of EF,while aerobic exercise of a similar intensity did not demonstrate any measured significant *** physiological benefits of physical exercise are well documented;however,the cognitive enhancing capability of EPE should also be appreciated given the results of this study.

Islet transplantation(IT) is today a well-established treatment modality for selected patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM). After the success of the University of Alberta group with a modified approach to the immune protection of islets, the international experience grew along with the numbers of transplants in highly specialized centers. Yet, long-term analysis of those initial results from the Edmonton group indicated that insulin-independence was not durable and most patients return to modest amounts of insulin around the fifth year, without recurrent hypoglycemia events. Many phenomena have been identified as limiting factor for the islet engraftment and survival, and today all efforts are aimed to improve the quality of islets and their engrafting process, as well as more optimized immunosuppression to facilitate tolerance and ultimately, better long term survival. This brief overview presents recent progress in IT. A concise historical perspective is provided, along with the latest efforts to improve islet engraftment, immune protection and ultimately, prolonged graft survival. It is apparent that as the community continues to work together further optimizing IT, it is hopeful a cure for T1 DM will soon be achievable.
