Performance comparison of Artificial Neural Network Models for Daily Rainfall Prediction

With an aim to predict rainfall one-day in advance, this paper adopted different neural network models such as feed forward back propagation neural network （BPN）, cascade-forward back propagation neural network （cBPN）, distributed time delay neural network （DTDNN） and nonlinear autoregressive exogenous network （NARX）, and compared their forecasting capabilities. The study deals with two data sets, one containing daily rainfall, temperature and humidity data of Nilgiris and the other containing only daily rainfall data from 14 rain gauge stations located in and around coonoor （a taluk of Nilgiris）. Based on the performance analysis, NARX network outperformed all the other networks. Though there is no major difference in the performances of BPN, cBPN and DTDNN, yet BPN performed considerably well confirming its prediction capabilities. Levenberg Marquardt proved to be the most effective weight updating technique when compared to different gradient descent approaches. Sensitivity analysis was instrumental in identifying the key predictors.

comparative Evaluation and Performance Analysis of Heat Exchangers Featured with Peened Surface

Heat exchangers have the potential for various engineering applications,and their performance is enriched by surface *** proposed system enriches the heat exchanger's performance by adapting a peened stainless steel(SS)surface blasted with copper,grinding,sand,and *** influences peened SS surface modified with a copper blast,grinding,sandblast,and iron blast on the surface morphology of shell and tube heat exchanger surface(STHE)is analyzed via tungsten heated cathode electron gun featured scanning electron microscope and observed coarse grain *** SS surface featured STHE performance is experimentally evaluated by different flow rates(30,60,90,and 120 L/min)underwater fluid medium functioned by the temperature ranges of 25-75℃ and its results are compared with computational fluid dynamic(cFD)/heat transfer research(HTRI)analyzed *** 60 L/min flow rate was spotted as an optimum value for both shell and tube side *** STHE is operated with a 60 L/min flow rate under the different peened surfaces and evaluated its Stanton number,Nusselt number,logarithmic mean temperature difference(LMTD),overall heat transfer coefficient,number of transfer units(NTU),effectiveness,and exergy *** iron blasted SS peened surface was observed to have better SHTE performance like Stanton number(0.0012),Nusselt number(2180),reduced LMTD of 31℃,improved overall heat transfer co-efficient of 2400 W/(m^(2)·K),better NTU of 0.5532,good effectiveness value of 0.45162,and hiked exergy efficiency of 10% respectively.

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify,large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind,hydro,and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries,particularly those employing organic molecules,are positioned as a key technology for this *** review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs)within this *** traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode,symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both *** review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design,and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous *** providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics,the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems,as are opportunities for future *** should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

AcHIEVING THRESHOLD BARRIER OF 1 nm ROUGHNESS VALUE OF SILIcON SURFAcE BY DIAMOND TURNING

nm roughness value of silicon surface by diamond turning is obtained firstly and three novel techniques are proposed. The surface integrity is studied in detail by using atomic force microscope, scanning electron microscope, and stylus surface instrument. The diamond tool sharpness has a considerable influence on the machined surface, therefore a novel technique—brightness modulation for measuring accurately the edge of the cutter is proposed. Mirror surfaces are assessed by another novel technique—a measure of their reflectivity. A third technique, single grit diamond machining is carried out. It supplies a experimental evidence for verifying the obtained high quality turned surfaces.
