Background:Impairments in hamstring strength,flexibility,and morphology have been associated with altered knee biomechanics,pain,and function.Determining the presence of these impairments in individuals with gradual-onset knee disorders is important and may indicate targets for assessment and rehabilitation.This systematic review aimed to synthesize the literature to determine the presence of impairments in hamstring strength,flexibility,and morphology in individuals with gradual-onset knee disorders.Methods:Five databases(MEDLINE,Embase,cINAHL,sPORTDisc.s.and Web of science)were searched from inception to september 2022.Only studies comparing hamstring outcomes(e.g.,strength,flexibility,and/or morphology)between individuals with gradual-onset knee disorders and their unaffected limbs or pain-free controls were included.Meta-analyses for each knee disorder were performed.Outcome-level certainty was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation,and evidence gap maps were created.Results:seventy-nine studies across 4 different gradual-onset knee disorders(i.e.,knee osteoarthritis(OA),patellofemoral pain(PFP),chondromalacia patellae,and patellar tendinopathy)were included.Individuals with knee OA presented with reduced hamstring strength compared to pain-free controls during isometric.s.andard mean difference(sMD)=-0.76,95%confidence interval(95%cI):-1.32 to-0.21)and concentric contractions(sMD=-0.97,95%cI:-1.49 to-0.45).Individuals with PFP presented with reduced hamstring strength compared to painfree controls during isometric.s.D=-0.48,95%cI:-0.82 to-0.14),concentric.s.D=-1.07,95%cI:-2.08 to-0.06),and eccentric contractions(sMD=-0.59,95%cI:-0.97 to-0.21).No differenc.s.were observed in individuals with patellar tendinopathy.Individuals with PFP presented with reduced hamstring flexibility when compared to pain-free controls(sMD=-0.76,95%cI:-1.15 to-0.36).Evidence gap maps identified insufficient evidence for chondromalacia patellae and hamstring morphology across all gradual-

chinese Assam tea(camellia sinensis var.assamica)is an important tea crop with a long history of cultivation in Yunnan,china.Despite its potential value as a genetic resource,its genetic diversity and domestication/breeding history remain unclear.To address this issue,we genotyped 469 ancient tea plant trees representing 26 c.s.nensis var.assamica populations,plus two of its wild relatives(six and three populations of c.taliensis and c.crassicolumna,respectively)using 16 nuclear microsatellite loci.Results showed that chinese Assam tea has a relatively high,but comparatively lower gene diversity(H_(s)=0.638)than the wild relative c.crassicolumna(H_s=0.658).clustering in sTRUcTURE indicated that chinese Assam tea and its two wild relatives formed distinct genetic groups,with considerable interspecific introgression.The chinese Assam tea acc.s.ions clustered into three gene pools,corresponding well with their geographic distribution.However,New Hybrids analysis indicated that 68.48%of ancient chinese Assam tea plants from Xishuangbanna were genetic intermediates between the Puer and Lincang gene pools.In addition,10%of the ancient chinese Assam tea individuals were found to be hybrids between chinese Assam tea and c.taliensis.Our results suggest that chinese Assam tea was domesticated separately in three gene pools(Puer,Lincang and Xishuangbanna)in the Mekong River valley and that the hybrids were subsequently selected during the domestication proc.s..Although the domestication history of chinese Assam tea in southwestern Yunnan remains complex,our results will help to identify valuable genetic resourc.s.that may be useful in future tea breeding programs.

The soft X-ray Imager(sXI)is part of the scientific payload of the solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(sMILE)mission.sMILE is a joint science mission between the European space Agency(EsA)and the chinese Academy of scienc.s.c.s.and is due for launch in 2025.sXI is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the sMILE orbit.sXI is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the solar Wind charge eXchange(sWcX)proc.s. produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s exosphere.sWcX provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field lines.The sensitivity of the sXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of sMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many hours.sXI is led by the University of Leic.s.er in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,china and the United states.

coral-like structures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) compound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. structural investigation certified the YIG cubic crystal structure formation, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of the dopant cations results in an expansion of the lattice parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distanc.s.and decrease in the average crystallite size. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and Raman measurements are essential to testify the single-phase formation of YIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational modes, respectively. The morphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDs) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atoms and the effect of dopants on surface area,diameter, and pore volume, respectively. The optical analysis from diffuse reflectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shift in the charge transfer,correlated with the expansion of the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG structure. A typical ferrimagnetic behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)compound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive field(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of their magnetic nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first time, antibacterial tests by mean of the direct contact method were performed for YIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) cations favored the activity against s. aureus, therefore, a new biological property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

The zebrafish field is ringing in the new year with a publication from Yonghua sun's laboratory(Wang et al.,2023)of a cocktail of germline factors that can induce all cells of the zebrafish embryo into primordial germ cells(PGcs)at phenomenal rates.This major advance is not only of great interest to germ cell biologists,but it has important applications to the entire zebrafish field,as shown in Wang et al.(2023).

The sARs-coV-2 Omicron variants are notorious for their transmissibility,but little is known about their subgenomic RNA(sgRNA)expression.This study applied RNA-seq to delineate the quantitative and qualitative profiles of canonical sgRNA of 118 respiratory samples collected from patients infected with Omicron BA.2 and compared with 338 patients infected with non-variant of concern(non-VOc)-D614G.A unique characteristic profile depicted by the relative abundance of 9 canonical sgRNAs was reproduced by both BA.2 and non-VOcD614G regardless of host gender,age and presence of pneumonia.Remarkably,such profile was lost in samples with low viral load,suggesting a potential application of sgRNA pattern to indicate viral activity of individual patient at a specific time point.A characteristic qualitative profile of canonical sgRNAs was also reproduced by both BA.2 and non-VOc-D614G.The presence of a full set of canonical sgRNAs carried a coherent correlation with crude viral load(AUc¼0.91,95%cI 0.88–0.94),and sgRNA ORF7b was identified to be the best surrogate marker allowing feasible routine application in characterizing the infection status of individual patient.Further potentials in using sgRNA as a target for vaccine and antiviral development are worth pursuing.

Magnesium oxide(MgO) nanoadsorbents in wastewater treatment: A comprehensive review

Wastewater contamination by heavy metals and synthetic dyes presents a significant environmental challenge, nec.s.itating effective and sustainable separation techniques. This review article provides a detailed examination of magnesium oxide(MgO) nanoparticles as an innovative nanoadsorbent for wastewater treatment, with a specific foc.s.on heavy metal and dye removal. The review comprehensively explores various aspec.s.of MgO nanoparticles, including their structural characteristics and synthesis techniques. The article delves into the morphology and crystallographic arrangement of MgO nanoparticles, offering insights into their structural attributes. Given the complexity of adsorption proc.s.es, the review identifies and analyzes parameters influencing the adsorption efficiency of MgO nanoparticles, such as temperature, pH, contact time, initial concentration, and co-existing ions. The interplay between these parameters and the adsorption capability of MgO nanoparticles emphasizes the importance of optimizing operational conditions. Furthermore, the review assesses various synthesis methods for MgO nanoparticles, including sol-gel, hydrothermal, precipitation, green synthesis, solvothermal, and template-assisted techniques. It disc.s.es the advantages, limitations, and resulting nanoparticle characteristics of each method, enabling readers to grasp the implications of synthesis proc.s.es on adsorption efficiency. This comprehensive review consolidates current insights into the effectiveness of MgO nanoparticles as a potent nanoadsorbent for removing heavy metals and dyes from wastewater covering a wide spectrum of aspec.s.related to MgO nanoparticles. Moreover, there is a need to investigate the use of MgO in the treatment of actual wastewater or river water,in order to leverage its c.s.-effectiveness and high efficiency for practical water treatment applications in real-time.

Background:No studies have documented long-term trends in aboveground biomass(AGB)for mixed-dipterocarp forests(MDF),the dominant rain forest type in tropical wet equatorial Asia.In our study,we sought to document such trends over forty years across three sites representing lowland to lower montane elevations.Methods:To do this,we established fifty 100 m×25 m plots in 1978 across three sites sampled along an elevation gradient,identified as mature old-growth forest.We measured trees for diameter at breast height that we identified to species and tagged.We took wood samples to calculate species wood-specific gravity.We re-measured plots in 1998 and again in 2018.Results:We show standing AGB for all sites combined to be 517.52 Mg·ha^(-1)in 1978,but this declined by 17%over 40 years to 430.11 Mg·ha^(-1).No differenc.s.exist among sites in AGB primarily because of considerable within site variation;but interactions of time with site show declines across sites were not uniform,one remained about the same.Relatively few species represented a high proportion of the AGB with the top five species comprising between 34%and 65%,depending upon site and year sampled.One species,Mesua nagassarium,represented a disproportionately large amount of AGB and decline over time,particularly at the low elevation site.conclusions:Our results are directly relevant to estimating AGB and standing carbon sequestered in MDF.Our study is the first to demonstrate varying but overall,declining trends in amounts of AGB among forests making predictions of biomass and standing carbon in MDF difficult over wide regions.

Open charm mesons and charmonia in magnetized strange hadronic matter

We investigate the in-medium masses of open charm mesons(D(D^(0),D^(+)),■(■^(0),D^(-)),D_(s)(D_(s)^(+),D_(s)^(-)))and charmonium states(J/ψ,ψ(3686),ψ(3770),χ_(c0),χ_(c2)) in strongly magnetized isospin asymmetric.s.range hadronic matter using a chiral effective model.In the presence of a magnetic field,the number and scalar densities of charged baryons have contributions from Landau energy levels.The mass modifications of open charm mesons result from their interactions with nucleons,hyperons,and the scalar fields(the non-strange field σ,strange field c and isovector field δ) in the presence of a magnetic field.The mass modifications of the charmonium states result from the modification of gluon condensates in a medium simulated by the variation in the dilaton field(χ) in the chiral effective model.The effec.s.of finite quark masses are also incorporated in the trace of the energy-momentum tensor in quantum chromodynamics to investigate the mass shifts of charmonium states.The in-medium masses of open charm mesons and charmonia are observed to decrease with an increase in baryon density.The charged D^(+),D^(-),Z_(s)^(+),and D_(s)^(-)mesons have additional positive mass shifts due to Landau quantization in the presence of a magnetic field.The effec.s.of the strangeness fraction are observed to be more dominant for ■ mesons compared with D mesons.The mass shifts of charmonia are observed to be larger in hyperonic media compared with nuclear media when the effect of the finite quark mass term is neglected.These medium mass modifications can have observable consequenc.s.on the production of the open charm mesons and charmonia in high-energy asymmetric heavy-ion collision experiments.
