Environmental control of the alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) and other stress response genes in plants is in part brought about by transcriptional regulation involving the G-box cis-acting DNA element and bZIp G-box Binding Factors (GBFs). The mechanisms of GBF regulation and requirements for additional factors in this control process are not well understood. In an effort to identify potential GBF binding and control partners, maize GBF1 was used as bait in a yeast two-hybrid screen of an A. thaliana cDNA library. GBF Interacting protein 1 (GIp1) arose from the screen as a 496 amino acid protein with a predicted molecular weight of 53,748 kDa that strongly interacts with GBFs. Northern analysis of A. thaliana tissue suggests a 1.8-1.9 kb GIp1 transcript, predominantly in roots. Immunolocalization studies indicate that GIp1 protein is mainly localized to the nucleus. In vitro electrophoretic mobility shift assays using an Adh G-box DNA probe and recombinant A. thaliana GBF3 or maize GBF1, showed that the presence of GIp1 resulted in a tenfold increase in GBF DNA binding activity without altering the migration, suggesting a transient association between GIp1 and GBF. Addition of GIp1 to intentionally aggregated GBF converted GBF to lower molecular weight macromolecular complexes and GIp1 also refolded denatured rhodanese in the absence of ATp. These data suggest GIp1 functions to enhance GBF DNA binding activity by acting as a potent nuclear chaperone or crowbar, and potentially regulates the multimeric state of GBFs, thereby contributing to bZIp-mediated gene regulation.

We reported two cases of jockeys who sustained fracture/dislocation of the mid-thoracic spine due to traumatic falls during horse *** examined the injury mechanism based upon the patients’diagnostic images and video footage of races,in which the accidents *** imaging of patient 1(a 42 years old male)revealed T5 burst fracture with bony retropulsion of 7 mm causing complete paralysis below T5/*** existed 22°focal kyphosis at T5/6,anterolisthesis of T5 relative to T6,T5/6 disc herniation,cord edema and epidural hemorrhage from T4 through T6,and cord injury from c3 through *** imaging of patient 2(a 23 years old male)revealed T4/5 fracture/dislocation causing incomplete paralysis below spinal *** existed compression fractures at T5,T6,and T7;4 mm anterior subluxation of T4 on T5;diffuse cord swelling from T3 through T5;comminuted fracture of the c1 right lateral mass;right frontal traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage;and extensive diffuse axonal *** injuries were caused by high energy flexion-compression of the mid-thoracic spine with a flexed posture upon *** results suggest that substantially greater cord compression occurred transiently during trauma as compared to that documented from admission *** footage of the accidents indicated that the spine buckled and failed due to abrupt pocketing and deceleration of the head,neck and shoulders upon impact with the ground combined with continued forward and downward momentum of the torso and lower *** a similar mechanism is well known to cause fracture/dislocation of the cervical spine,it is less common and less understood for mid-thoracic spine *** study provides insight into the etiology of fracture/dislocation patterns of the mid-thoracic spine due to falls during horse racing.

As populations age, prevalence of Alzheimer＇s disease（AD） is rising. Over 100 years of research has provided valuable insights into the pathophysiology of the disease, for which age is the principal risk factor. However, in recent years, a multitude of clinical trial failures has led to pharmaceutical corporations becoming more and more unwilling to support drug development in AD. It is possible that dependence on the amyloid cascade hypothesis as a guide for preclinical research and drug discovery is part of the problem. Accumulating evidence suggests that amyloid plaques and tau tangles are evident in non-demented individuals and that reducing or clearing these lesions does not always result in clinical improvement. Normal aging is associated with pathologies and cognitive decline that are similar to those observed in AD, making differentiation of AD-related cognitive decline and neuropathology challenging. In this mini-review, we discuss the difficulties with discerning normal, age-related cognitive decline with that related to AD. We also discuss some neuropathological features of AD and aging, including amyloid and tau pathology, synapse loss, inflammation and insulin signaling in the brain, with a view to highlighting cognitive or neuropathological markers that distinguish AD from normal aging. It is hoped that this review will help to bolster future preclinical research and support the development of clinical tools and therapeutics for AD.

AIM:To analyze the change of dimethylarginine plasma levels in cirrhotic patients receiving transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIpS).METHODS:To determine arginine,asymmetric dimethylarginine(ADMA),symmetric dimethylarginine(SDMA),and nitric oxide(NO) plasma levels,blood samples were collected from the superior cava,hepatic,and portal vein just before,directly after,and 3 mo after ***:A significant increase in the arginine/ADMA ratio after TIpS placement was ***,TIpS placement enhanced renal function and thereby decreased systemic SDMA *** patients with renal dysfunction before TIpS placement,both the arginine/ADMA ratio and creatinine clearance rate increased significantly,while this was not the case in patients with normal renal function before TIpS *** function did not change significantly after TIpS placement and no significant decline in ADMA plasma levels was ***:The increase of the arginine/ADMA ratio after TIpS placement suggests an increase in intracellular NO *** addition,this study suggests that TIpS placement does not alter dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase(DDAH) activity and confirms the major role of the liver as an ADMA clearing organ.

In this study,we evaluate power law inflation(pLI)with a monomial potential and obtain a novel exact *** is well known that the conventional pLI with an exponential potential is inconsistent with the planck *** the standard pLI,the present model does not encounter the graceful exit problem,and the results agree fairly well with recent *** our analysis,we calculate the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio,both of which agree very well with recent observational data and are comparable with those of other modified inflationary *** employed technique reveals that the large cosmological constant decreases with the expansion of the universe in the case of the *** coupling of the inflaton with gravitation is the primary factor in this *** basic assumption here is that the two metric tensors in the gravitational and inflaton parts correspond to different conformal frames,which contradicts with the conventional pLI,where the inflaton is directly coupled with the background metric *** fact has direct applications to different dark energy models and the assisted quintessence theory.

We present the orbital X-ray modulation study of three high mass X-ray binary systems, IGR J18027-2016, IGR J18483-0311 and IGR J16318-4848, using data obtained with RXTE-ASM, Swift-BAT and INTEGRAL-ISGRI. Using the long term light curves of the eclipsing HMXB IGR J18027-2016, obtained with Swift-BAT in the energy range 15-50keV and INTEGRAL-ISGRI in the energy range 22-40 keV, we have determined three new mid eclipse times. The newly determined mid eclipse times together with the known values were used to derive an accurate value of the orbital period of 4.5693（4） d at MJD 52168 and an upper limit of 3.9（1.2）×10^-7d d-1 on the period derivative. We have also accurately determined an orbital period of 18.5482（88）d for the intermediate system IGR J 18483-0311, which displays an unusual behavior and shares many properties with the known SFXTs and persistent supergiant systems. This is a transient source and the outbursts occur intermittently at intervals of 18.55 d. Similarly, in the third supergiant system, IGR J16318-4848, we have found that the outbursts are separated by intervals of 80 d or its multiples, suggesting a possible orbital period.

Anovel beamforming algorithmnamed Delay Multiply and Sum(DMAS),which excels at enhancing the resolution and contrast of ultrasonic image,has recently been ***,there are nested loops in this algorithm,so the calculation complexity is higher compared to the Delay and Sum(DAS)beamformer which is widely used in ***,we proposed a simple vector-based method to lower its *** key point is to transform the nested loops into several vector operations,which can be efficiently implemented on many parallel platforms,such as Graphics processing Units(GpUs),and multi-core central processing Units(cpUs).consequently,we considered to implement this algorithm on such a *** order to maximize the use of computing power,we use the GpUs andmulti-core cpUs *** platform used in our test is a low cost personal computer(pc),where a GpU and a multi-core cpU are *** results show that the hybrid use of a cpU and a GpU can get a significant performance improvement in comparison with using a GpU or using amulti-core cpU *** performance of the hybrid system is increased by about 47%–63%compared to a single *** 32 elements are used in receiving,the fame rate basically can reach 30 *** the best case,the frame rate can be increased to 40 fps.

The cXc chemokine cXcL12 is an important factor in physiological and pathological processes, includingembryogenesis, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and inflammation, because it activates and/or induces migration ofhematopoietic progenitor and stem cells, endothelial cells and most leukocytes. Therefore, cXcL12 activity istightly regulated at multiple levels. cXcL12 has the unique property of existing in six splice variants in humans,each having a specific tissue distribution and in vivo activity. controlled splice variant transcription and mRNAstability determine the cXcL12 expression profile. cXcL12 fulfills its functions in homeostatic and pathologicalconditions by interacting with its receptors cXc chemokine receptor 4 (cXcR4) and atypical chemokine receptor 3(AcKR3) and by binding to glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in tissues and on the endothelium to allow a properpresentation to passing leukocytes. Homodimerizaton and heterodimerization of cXcL12 and its receptors can altertheir signaling activity, as exemplified by the synergy between cXcL12 and other chemokines in leukocyte migrationassays. Receptor binding may also initiate cXcL12 internalization and its subsequent removal from theenvironment. Furthermore, cXcL12 activity is regulated by posttranslational modifications. proteolytic removal ofNH2- or cOOH-terminal amino acids, citrullination of arginine residues by peptidyl arginine deiminases or nitrationof tyrosine residues reduce cXcL12 activity. This review summarizes the interactions of cXcL12 with the cellularenvironment and discusses the different levels of cXcL12 activity regulation.

Effects of wood species and retention levels on removal of copper,chromium,and arsenic from ccA-treated wood using sodium hypochlorite

chemical extraction, bioremediation, and electrodialytic processes have been extensively studied for removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from wood treated with chromated copper arsenate （ccA）. However, one problem has not been addressed： the effects of wood species and retention levels on remediation efficiency. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of wood species and retention levels on removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from ccA-treated wood samples using sodium hypochlorite. Our results showed that sodium hypochlorite （NaOc1） was very effective for removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from ccA-c treated milled wood samples for all three species used in this study. The cu, cr, and As extraction efficiencies for red pine were 95 % cu, 97 % cr and 94 % As, for maple were 95 % cu, 97 % cr, and 98 % As at 4.0 kg m-3 retention levels, and for aspen were 95 % cu, 92% cr, and 91% As at 9.6 kg m-3 retention level, respectively. However, the results showed that wood species and initial retention levels of ccA-treated wood products played very impor- tant roles in terms of removal of cu, cr, and As.
