Small-scale self-driving cars:A systematic literature review

The autonomous vehicle(AV)technology has the potential to significantly improve safety and efficiency of the transportation and logistics industry.Full-scale AV testing is limited by time,space,and cost,while simulation-based testing often lacks the necessary accuracy of AV and environmental modeling.In recent years,several initiatives have emerged to test autonomous software and hardware on scaled vehicles.This systematic literature review provides an overview of the literature surrounding small-scale self-driving cars,summarizing the current autonomous platforms deployed and focusing on the software and hardware developments in this field.The studies published in english-language journals or conference papers that present small-scale testing of self-driving cars were included.Web of Science,Scopus,Springer link,Wiley,AcM Digital library,and TRID databases were used for the literature search.The systematic literature search found 38 eligible studies.Research gaps in the reviewed papers were identified to provide guidance for future research.Some key takeaway emerging from this manuscript are:(i)there is a need to improve the models and neural network architectures used in autonomous driving systems,as most papers present only preliminary results;(ii)increasing datasets and sharing databases can help in developing more reliable control policies and reducing bias and variance in the training process;(iii)small-scaled vehicles to ensure safety is a major benefit,and incorporating data about unsafe driving behaviors and infrastructure problems can improve the accuracy of predictive models.

Molecular and cellular mechanisms of neuroprotection by oligopeptides from snake venoms

Venom snake-derived peptides have multiple biochemical,pharmacological,and toxicological proﬁles,allowing for the discovery of new medicinal products and therapeutic applications.This review speciﬁcally examines the fundamental elements of neuroprotection offered by different oligopeptides derived from snake venom.It also includes a brief evaluation of short peptides that are being considered as potential therapeutic agents.Proline-rich peptides and tryptophyllin family peptides isolated from the crude venom of Viperidae family snakes,speciﬁcally Bothrops atrox,Bothrops jararaca,and Bothrops moojeni,have been shown to have pro-survival properties,the ability to reduce oxidative stress,and the ability to promote cell viability and mitochondrial functions.Three signiﬁcant mechanisms are related to the neuroprotection mediated by snake venom oligopeptides:(1)Activation of the l-arginine metabolite pathway,such as polyamines from ornithine metabolism,which reduces N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMda)-type glutamate receptor activity;(2)enhancement of cell viability by activating the nerve growth factor-signaling pathway;and(3)Activation of the Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor subtype M1(mAchR-M1).These small peptides show promise as neuroprotective agents against a variety of neurodegenerative disorders.

effect of radiative loss mechanisms on FIR thermometric parameters of Nd3+-doped lithium tellurite glasses

Nd3+-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio（FIR） technique.Nevertheless,at high Nd3+concentrations,energy transfer（eT） processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd3+emission,which has been little explored in the literature.Therefore,the present work investigated the use of Nd3+-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd3+at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%) in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 K.The results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd3+concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd3+emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio4F5/2→4I9/2/4F3/2→4I9/2is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd3+.The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd3+ions.

Since the early stages of life on earth,cellular metabolism has evolved to adapt to fluctuations in nutrient and oxygen availability.In this context,mammals,which are probably the organisms that show one of the highest levels of metabolic complexity,have developed an elegant system that uses constant and rechargeable energy sources of modulate their metabolism.This homeostasis is especially important in the central nervous system,as neurons and other cells in the brain are highly susceptible to fluctuations in nutrients and oxygen availability.

Purpose:This meta-analytical study aimed to explore the effects of resistance training(RT) volume on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation in postmenopausal and older females.Methods:A systematic search was performed for randomized controlled trials in PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,and ScielO.Randomized controlled trials with postmenopausal and older females that compared RT effects on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation with a control group(cG) were included.Independent reviewers selected the studies,extracted the data,and performed the risk of bias and certainty of the evidence(Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and evaluation(GRADe)) evaluations.Total body and abdominal adiposity,blood lipids,glucose,and c-reactive protein were included for meta-analysis.A random-effects model,standardized mean difference(Hedges’ g),and 95% confidence interval(95%cI) were used for meta-analysis.Results:Twenty randomized controlled trials(overall risk of bias:some concerns;GRADe:low to very low) with overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females were included.RT groups were divided into low-volume RT(lVRT,~44 sets/week) and high-volume RT(HVRT,~77 sets/week).Both RT groups presented improved body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation when compared to cG.However,HVRT demonstrated higher effect sizes than lVRT for glucose(HVRT=-1.19;95%cI:-1.63 to-0.74;lVRT=-0.78;95%cI:-1.15 to-0.41) and c-reactive protein(HVRT=-1.00;95%cI:-1.32 to-0.67;lVRT=-0.34;95%cI,-0.63 to-0.04)) when compared to cG.conclusion:compared to cG,HVRT protocols elicit greater improvements in metabolic risk and inflammation outcomes than lVRT in overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females.

The clothing industry is considered one of the most polluting industries on the planet due to the high consumption of water,energy,chemicals/dyes,and high generation of solid waste and effluents.Faced with environmental concerns,the textile ennoblement sector is the most critical of the textile production chain,especially the traditional dyeing processes.As an alternative to current problems,dyeing with supercritical cO_(2)(sccO_(2))has been presented as a clean and efficient process for a sustainable textile future.Supercritical fluid dyeing(SFD)has shown a growing interest due to its significant impact on environmental preservation and social,economic,and financial gains.The main SFD benefits include economy and reuse of non-adsorbed dyes;reduction of process time and energy expenditure;capture of atmospheric cO_(2)(greenhouse gas);use and recycling of cO_(2)in SFD;generation of carbon credits;water-free process;effluent-free process;reduction of cO_(2)emission and auxiliary chemicals.Despite being still a non-scalable and evolving technology,SFD is the future of dyeing.This review presented a comprehensive overview of the environmental impacts caused by traditional processes and confronted the advantages of SFD.The SFD technique was introduced,along with its latest advances and future perspectives.Financial and environmental gains were also discussed.

effect of drug therapies on self-reported chemosensory outcomes after cOVID-19

Objective:The aim of this study was to assess the relative efficacy of medications used following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-coV-2)infection on self-reported alterations in taste and/or smell function.Methods:Seven hundred and fourteen persons with self-reported postcoronavirus disease 2019(post-cOVID-19)chemosensory disorders were personally interviewed regarding specific medications they were administered following the acute phase of the disease.The dependent measure—self-reported total recovery of chemosensory symptoms—was subjected to stepwise logistic regression.Independent predictors included demographic and clinical variables,in addition to specific medications used to mitigate disease symptoms(i.e.,systemic corticosteroids,oseltamivir,vitamin c,ibuprofen,hydroxychloroquine,azithromycin,ivermectin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:The median time between cOVID-19 symptom onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).Of the 714 subjects,249(34.9%)reported total recovery of their chemosensory function;437(61.2%)had at least one treatment since the beginning of the disease.Women and those with more comorbidities had undergone more treatments.The recovery rates of the treated and nontreated groups did not differ significantly.Nonetheless,respondents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of self-reported taste or smell recovery.Those who took oral zinc were less likely to improve.conclusions:No medication employed during the first months after SARS-coV-2 infection had a clear positive effect on returning self-reported smell or taste function to normal,although nitrazoxide trended in a positive direction.Oral zinc had a negative effect on the reported recovery of these senses.

Influence of broken kernels content on soybean quality during storage

Although it is recognized that the post-harvest system is most responsible for the loss of soybean quality,the real impact of this loss is still unknown.Brazilian regulation allows 15%and 30%of broken soybean for group I and group II(quality groups),respectively.However,the industry is not informed about the loss in the quality parameters of soybeans and its impacts during long-term storage.Therefore,the objective was to evaluate the effect of the breakage kernel percentage of soybean stored for 12 months.content of 15% of breakage kernels did not affect soybean quality.However,content of 30% of breakage kernels affected significantly soybean quality,which was evidenced by the increase of up to 75% in moldy soybeans,72% in acidity,50% in leached solids,27% in electrical conductivity,and the decrease of up to 12% in soluble protein,6.4% in germination and 3.5% in thousand kernel weight after 8 months of storage.Although the legislation establishes a percentage limit,it is recommended to store soybeans with up to 15% breakage kernels.On the contrary,values higher than that can cause a significant reduction in soybean quality,resulting in commercial losses.

Photobiomodulation:a novel approach to promote trans-differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into neuronal-like cells

Photobiomodulation,originally used red and near-infrared lasers,can alter cellular metabolism.It has been demonstrated that the visible spectrum at 451-540 nm does not necessarily increase cell proliferation,near-infrared light promotes adipose stem cell proliferation and affects adipose stem cell migration,which is necessary for the cells homing to the site of injury.In this in vitro study,we explored the potential of adipose-derived stem cells to differentiate into neurons for future translational regenerative treatments in neurodegenerative disorders and brain injuries.We investigated the effects of various biological and chemical inducers on trans-differentiation and evaluated the impact of photobiomodulation using 825 nm near-infrared and 525 nm green laser light at 5 J/cm2.As adipose-derived stem cells can be used in autologous grafting and photobiomodulation has been shown to have biostimulatory effects.Our findings reveal that adipose-derived stem cells can indeed trans-differentiate into neuronal cells when exposed to inducers,with pre-induced cells exhibiting higher rates of proliferation and trans-differentiation compared with the control group.Interestingly,green laser light stimulation led to notable morphological changes indicative of enhanced trans-differentiation,while near-infrared photobiomodulation notably increased the expression of neuronal markers.Through biochemical analysis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays,we observed marked improvements in viability,proliferation,membrane permeability,and mitochondrial membrane potential,as well as increased protein levels of neuron-specific enolase and ciliary neurotrophic factor.Overall,our results demonstrate the efficacy of photobiomodulation in enhancing the trans-differentiation ability of adipose-derived stem cells,offering promising prospects for their use in regenerative medicine for neurodegenerative disorders and brain injuries.

BAcKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is an aggressive malignant neoplasm that requires liver transplantation(lT).Despite patients with Hcc being prioritized by most organ allocation systems worldwide,they still have to wait for long periods.locoregional therapies(lRTs)are employed as bridging therapies in patients with Hcc awaiting lT.Although largely used in the past,transarterial embolization(TAe)has been replaced by transarterial chemoembolization(TAce).However,the superiority of TAce over TAe has not been consistently shown in the literature.AIM To compare the outcomes of TAce and TAe in patients with Hcc awaiting lT.MeTHODS All consecutive patients with Hcc awaiting lT between 2011 and 2020 at a single center were included.All patients underwent lRT with either TAce or TAe.Some patients also underwent percutaneous ethanol injection(PeI),concom-itantly or in different treatment sessions.The choice of lRT for each Hcc nodule was determined by a multidisciplinary consensus.The primary outcome was waitlist dropout due to tumor progression,and the secondary outcome was the occurrence of adverse events.In the subset of patients who underwent lT,complete pathological response and post-transplant recurrence-free survival were also assessed.ReSUlTS Twelve(18.5%)patients in the TAce group(only TAce and TAce+PeI;n=65)and 3(7.9%)patients in the TAe group(only TAe and TAe+PeI;n=38)dropped out of the waitlist due to tumor progression(P log-rank test=0.29).Adverse events occurred in 8(12.3%)and 2(5.3%)patients in the TAce and TAe groups,respectively(P=0.316).Forty-eight(73.8%)of the 65 patients in the TAce group and 29(76.3%)of the 38 patients in the TAe group underwent lT(P=0.818).Among these patients,complete pathological response was detected in 7(14.6%)and 9(31%)patients in the TAce and TAe groups,respectively(P=0.145).Post-lT,Hcc recurred in 9(18.8%)and 4(13.8%)patients in the TAce and TAe groups,respectively(P=0.756).Posttransplant recurrence-free survival was similar between the groups(P log-rank test=0.71).cONcl
