Platelets are responsible for blood haemostasis. Although anucleate, a complete translational machinery has been found in platelets, which is responsible for new protein generation. Recently, the role of miRNAs in platelets has started to become apparent. In this editorial I highlight this topic in the hope that other scientists may be attracted to work in this area to aid a more complete understanding of protein regulation in platelets and its impact on platelet function.

Species invasions threaten marine biodiversity globally. There is a concern that climate change is exacerbating this problem. Here, we examined some of the potential effects of warming water temperatures on the invasion of Western Atlantic habitats by a marine predator, the Indo-Pacific lionfish （Pterois volitans and P. miles）. We focussed on two temperature-dependent aspects of lionfish life-history and behaviour： pelagic larval duration, because of its link to dispersal potential, and prey consump- tion rate, because it is an important determinant of the impacts of lionfish on native prey. Using models derived from fundamental metabolic theory, we predict that the length of time spent by lionfish in the plankton in early life should decrease with warming temperatures, with a concomitant reduction in potential dispersal distance. Although the uncertainty around change in dispersal distances is large, predicted reductions are, on average, more than an order of magnitude smaller than the current rate of range expansion of lionfisli in the caribbean. Nevertheless, because shorter pelagic larval duration has the potential to increase local re- tention of larvae, local lionfish management will become increasingly important under projected climate change. Increasing tem- perature is also expected to worsen the current imbalance between rates of prey consumption by lionfish and biomass production by their prey, leading to a heightened decline in native reef fish biomass. However, the magnitude of climate-induced decline is predicted to be minor compared to the effect of current rates of lionfish population increases （and hence overall prey consumption rates） on invaded reefs. Placing the predicted effects of climate change in the current context thus reveals that, at least for the lionfish invasion, the threat is clear and present, rather than future [current Zoology 58 （1）： 1-8, 2012].

Pseudohypericin and Hyperforin in Hypericum perforatum from Northern Turkey:Variation among Populations,Plant Parts and Phenological Stages

Hypericum perforatum is a perennial medicinal plant known as ＂St. John＇s wort＂ in Western Europe and has been used in the treatment of several diseases for centuries. In the present study, morphologic, phenologic and population variability in pseudohypericin and hyperforin concentrations among H. perforatum populations from Northern Turkey was investigated for the first time. The aerial parts of H. perforatum plants representing a total of 30 individuals were collected at full flowering from 10 sites of Northern Turkey to search the regional variation in the secondary metabolite concentrations. For morphologic and phenologic sampling, plants from one site were gathered in five phenological stages： vegetative, floral budding, full flowering, fresh fruiting and mature fruiting. The plant materials were air-dried at room temperature and subsequently assayed for chemical concentrations by high performance liquid chromatography. Secondary metabolite concentrations ranged from traces to 2.94mg/g dry weight （DW） for pseudohypericin and traces -6.29mg/g DW for hyperforin. The differences in the secondary metabolite concentrations among populations of H. perforatum were found to be significant. The populations varied greatly in hyperforin concentrations, whereas they produced a similar amount of pseudohypericin. concentrations of both secondary metabolites in all tissues increased with advancing of plant development and higher accumulation levels were reached at flowering. Among different tissues, full opened flowers were found to be superior to stems, leaves and the other reproductive parts with regard to pseudohypericin and hyperforin accumulations. The present findings might be useful to optimize the processing methodology of wild-harvested plant material and obtain increased concentrations of these secondary metabolites.

The thermomechanical fatigue behaviour of different high temperature alloys has been investigated and is under investigation respectively. The creep-fatigue behaviour of heat resistant steels was investigated by long-term service-type strain cycling tests simulating thermomechanical fatigue (TMF-) loading conditions at the heated surface of e.g. turbine rotors. Single-stage as well as three-stage cycles leads to similar results at the application of the damage accumulation rule. life prediction which simulates typical combinations of cold starts, warm starts and hot starts has been established successfully for isothermal service-type loading and will be exceeded for thermomechanical loading. long-term thermomechanical fatigue testing of Thermal Barrier coating systems show typical delamination damage. An advanced TMF cruciform testing system enables complex multiaxial loading.

The scope of the present paper is to understand the effects of crystalline admixture on the selfhealing capacity of the cementitious composites. Previous studies were examined and a conclusion was drawn to the effect that different additives to crystalline admixture tend to improve self-healing of concrete for larger cracks. It is recommended that initial treatment with chemical admixture can stimulate and heal further cracks and it has the better repeatability trend in mixing with the concretes and mechanical recovery is possible even under repetitive preloading. Effective self-healing with chemical admixtures even under open-air exposure, leads to study the importance of a service ability design parameter including the maximum allowable crack width by repeatability analysis as a function of the exposure with the concept of sealable crack width.

A mathematical solution for the parameters of three interfering resonances

The multiple-solution problem in determining the parameters of three interfering resonances from a fit to an experimentally measured distribution is considered from a mathematical viewpoint. It is shown that there are four numerical solutions for a fit with three coherent Breit-Wigner functions. Although explicit analytical formulae cannot be derived in this case, we provide some constraint equations between the four solutions. For the cases of nonrelativistic and relativistic Breit-Wigner forms of amplitude functions, a numerical method is provided to derive the other solutions from that already obtained, based on the obtained constraint equations. In real experimental measurements with more complicated amplitude forms similar to Breit-Wigner functions, the same method can be deduced and performed to get numerical solutions. The good agreement between the solutions found using this mathematical method and those directly from the fit verifies the correctness of the constraint equations and mathematical methodology used.

目的评价在预防产后抑郁中,除临床标准护理外,不同抗抑郁药物治疗的有效性。比较不同抗抑郁药物与其他抗产后抑郁干预措施如激素、心理治疗或社会支持的有效性,以及抗抑郁药物在母亲和胎儿或婴儿中的不良反应。方法检索在cochrane抑郁小组、焦虑与神经官能症小组、cochrane妊娠和分娩小组中注册和更新的临床试验。在原无抑郁症的孕妇或在最近6周内妊娠的妇女(即产后抑郁的危险人群)中进行的,与安慰剂或心理治疗比较,单用抗抑郁药或与其他治疗联合的临床随机对照研究。试验报告数据的提取由作者独立进行。如有可能,向原作者索取缺失的信息,并寻找数据以便进行ITT分析。结果本系统评价共纳入2个符合纳入标准的试验。研究对象均为曾有产后抑郁病史妇女。Wisner2001的研究显示,去甲替林组(n=26)的疗效并不优于安慰剂组(n=25)。Wisner2004的研究显示,舍曲林组(n=14)与安慰剂组(n=8)比较,减少了产后抑郁症的再次发生,缩短了再次发病的时间。未能对任何一个试验进行ITT分析。结论对于产后立即给与抗抑郁药预防产后抑郁的确切疗效,目前尚无法得出任何结论。因此不推荐在预防产后抑郁时使用。尚需进行抗抑郁药物与其他预防措施比较的更大规模的试验来反映临床实践情况,调查其对胎儿或婴儿的不良反应,并评价妇女对在此阶段使用抗抑郁药物的看法。

This work deals with the behavior of fermions in the background of kinklike structures in the twodimensional spacetime. The kinklike structures appear from bosonic scalar field models that engender distinct profiles and interact with the fermion fields via the standard Yukawa coupling. We first consider two models that engender parity symmetry, one leading to the exclusion of fermion bound states, and the other to the inclusion of bound states, when the parameter that controls the bosonic structure varies from zero to unity. We then investigate a third model where the kinklike solution explicitly breaks parity symmetry, leading to fermion bound states that are spatially asymmetric.
