Regeneration-associated macrophages： a novel approach to boost intrinsic regenerative capacity for axon regeneration

Axons in central nervous system （cNS） do not regenerate spontaneously after injuries such as stroke and traumatic spinal cord iniury. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors are responsible for the regeneration fail- ure, Although intensive research efforts have been invested on extrinsic regeneration inhibitors, the extent to which glial inhibitors contribute to the regeneration failure in viva still remains elusive. Recent exper- imental evidence has rekindled interests in intrinsic factors for the regulation of regeneration capacity in adult mammals. In this review, we propose that activating macrophages with pro-regenerative molecular signatures could be a novel approach for boosting intrinsic regenerative capacity of cNS neurons. Using a conditioning injury model in which regeneration of central branches of dorsal root ganglia sensory neu- rons is enhanced by a preceding injury to the peripheral branches, we have demonstrated that perineuronal macrophages surrounding dorsal root ganglia neurons are critically involved in the maintenance of en- hanced regeneration capacity. Neuron-derived chemokine （c-c motif） ligand 2 （ccL2） seems to mediate neuron-macrophage interactions conveying injury signals to perineuronal macrophages taking on a soley pro-regenerative phenotype, which we designate as regeneration-associated macrophages （RAMs）. Ma- nipulation of the ccL2 signaling could boost regeneration potential mimicking the conditioning injury, suggesting that the chemokine-mediated RAM activation could be utilized as a regenerative therapeutic strategy for cNS injuries.

LAME:Layout-Aware Metadata Extraction Approach for Research Articles

The volume of academic literature,such as academic conference papers and journals,has increased rapidly worldwide,and research on metadata extraction is ***,high-performing metadata extraction is still challenging due to diverse layout formats according to journal *** accommodate the diversity of the layouts of academic journals,we propose a novel LAyout-aware Metadata Extraction(LAME)framework equipped with the three characteristics(e.g.,design of automatic layout analysis,construction of a large meta-data training set,and implementation of metadata extractor).In the framework,we designed an automatic layout analysis using PDF *** on the layout analysis,a large volume of metadata-separated training data,including the title,abstract,author name,author affiliated organization,and keywords,were automatically ***,we constructed a pre-trainedmodel,Layout-Meta BERT,to extract the metadata from academic journals with varying layout *** experimental results with our metadata extractor exhibited robust performance(Macro-F1,93.27%)in metadata extraction for unseen journals with different layout formats.

Prevalence of HFE mutations and relation to serum (?)ron status in patients with chronic hepatitis c and patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in Taiwan

AIM: To assess the prevalence of the two mutations, c282Y and H63D of HFE gene, in healthy subjects, patients with chronic hepatitis c (cHc), and patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Taiwan and to explore the contribution of the HFE mutation on serum iron stores in cHc and NAFLD ***: We examined c282Y and H63D mutations of HFE gene in 125 healthy subjects, 29 patients with cHc,and 33 patients with NAFLD. The serum iron markers,including ferritin, iron, and total iron binding capacity (TIBc),were assessed in all ***: All of the healthy subjects and patients were free from c282Y mutation. The prevalence of H63D heterozygosity was 4/125 (3.20%) in healthy subjects, 2/29(6.90%) in cHc group, and 1/33 (3.03%) in NAFLD *** healthy subjects showed no significant difference in the prevalence of H63D mutation as compared with the cHc or NAFLD group. Increased serum iron store was found in 34.48% of cHc patients and 36.36% of NAFLD *** three patients of H63D heterozygosity, only one cHc patient had increased serum iron store. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of HFE mutations between patients with increased serum iron store and those without in cHc or NAFLD ***: The HFE mutations may not contribute to iron accumulation in the cHc or NAFLD group even when serum iron overload is observed in more than one-third of these patients in Taiwan.

Arbitrary style transfer aims to perceptually reflect the style of a reference image in artistic creations with visual *** style transfer models,particularly those using adaptive instance normalization(AdaIN)layer,rely on global statistics,which often fail to capture the spatially local color distribution,leading to outputs that lack variation despite geometric *** address this,we introduce Patchified AdaIN,a color-inspired style transfer method that applies AdaIN to localized patches,utilizing local statistics to capture the spatial color distribution of the reference *** approach enables enhanced color awareness in style transfer,adapting dynamically to geometric transformations by leveraging local image *** Patchified AdaIN builds on AdaIN,it integrates seamlessly into existing frameworks without the need for additional training,allowing users to control the output quality through adjustable blending *** comprehensive experiments demonstrate that Patchified AdaIN can reflect geometric transformations(e.g.,translation,rotation,flipping)of images for style transfer,thereby achieving superior results compared to state-of-the-art *** experiments show the compatibility of Patchified AdaIN for integration into existing networks to enable spatial color-aware arbitrary style transfer by replacing the conventional AdaIN layer with the Patchified AdaIN layer.

Improving Method of Anomaly Detection Performance for Industrial IoT Environment

Industrial control System(IcS),which is based on Industrial IoT(IIoT),has an intelligent mobile environment that supports various mobility,but there is a limit to relying only on the physical security of the IcS *** to various threat factors that can disrupt the workflow of the IIoT,machine learning-based anomaly detection technologies are being presented;it is also essential to study for increasing detection performance to minimize model errors for promoting stable IcS *** this paper,we established the requirements for improving the anomaly detection performance in the IIoT-based IcS environment by analyzing the related *** that,we presented an improving method of the performance of a machine learning model specialized for IIoT-based IcS,which increases the detection rate by applying correlation coefficients and clustering;it provides a mechanism to predict thresholds on a ***,we adopted the HAI dataset environment that actively reflected the characteristics of IIoT-based IcS and demonstrated that performance could be improved through comparative experiments with the traditional method and our proposed *** presented method can further improve the performance of commonly applied error-based detection techniques and includes a primary method that can be enhanced over existing detection techniques by analyzing correlation coefficients between features to consider feedback between IcS *** can contribute to improving the performance of several detection models applied in IcS and other areas.

Process simulation and economic analysis of reactor systems for perfluorinated compounds abatement without HF effluent

New and efficient proposed to treat perfluorinated reactor systems were compounds via catalytic decomposition. One system has a single reactor （S-1）, and another has a series of reactors （S-2）. Both systems are capable of producing a valuable caF2 and eliminating toxic HF effluent and their feasibility was studied at various temperatures with a commercial process simulator, Aspen HYSYS. They are better than the conventional system, and S-2 is better than S-1 in terms of caF2 production, a required heat for the system, natural gas usage and cO2 emissions in a boiler, and energy consumption. Based on process simulation results, preliminary economic analysis shows that cost savings of 12.37% and 13.55% were obtained in S-2 at 589.6 and 621.4℃compared to S-1 at 700 and 750 ℃, respectively, for the same amount of caF2 production.

Effects of homogenization temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of high-speed-extruded Mg–5Bi–3Al alloy

This study investigates the effects of billet homogenization temperature on the dynamic recrystallization behavior during high-speed extrusion and resultant microstructure and tensile properties of the Mg–5Bi–3Al(BA53,wt%)*** billets homogenized at 350 and450℃(350H and 450H billets)are extruded at a high speed of 69 m/*** 350H billet has a relatively smaller grain size and a higher abundance of fine Mg3Bi2particles compared to the 450H *** extrusion of the 350H billet,enhanced dynamic recrystallization occurs as a result of its finer grains and abundance of particles,while the growth of recrystallized grains is suppressed by the grain-boundary pinning effect of ***,the extruded 350H material is characterized by smaller grains,relatively greater number of Mg3Bi2particles,and a higher internal strain energy than the extruded 450H *** tensile strength of the extruded 350H material is higher than that of the extruded 450H material owing to stronger grain-boundary hardening,particle hardening,and strain hardening *** extruded 350H material also exhibits a higher tensile elongation as its smaller grains inhibit the formation of crack-inducing undesirable twins during *** results from this study demonstrate that a decrease in the homogenization temperature from 450 to 350℃leads to improved strength and ductility in the high-speed-extruded BA53 material.

Deformation prediction of porcelain-enameled steels with strain history by press forming and high-temperature behavior of coating layer

Porcelain enamel coatings were widely applied for the protection of steel products because they offered high corrosion protection,resistance to heat and abrasion,high hardness,hygiene and ease of *** typical process to produce enameled steels is roughly divided into two stages:the first stage consists of a forming process to give the desired shape to a steel substrate,and the second stage consists of a firing process to bond enamel frits on the *** firing process requires a high temperature above 800 °c,which may lead to austenitic transformation and severe thermal deformation of the steel *** aim of this study is to develop a finite element analysis (FE analysis) technique to predict the mechanical and thermal deformations of the enameled steels during forming and any further enameling process,including *** FE analysis involves analyzing the strain history of the steel substrate,which comprises the stress and thickness distributions of the substrate and its deformed shape,and the high-temperature behavior of the enamel coating *** validity of the FE analysis is verified through the U-bending test and firing test with various numbers and positions of enamel coating layers on the *** results reveal that the FE analysis results agree well with the experimental results with 8% error.

A Proximal Promoter Region of Arabidopsis DREB2c confers Tissue-specific Expression under Heat Stress

The dehydration-responsive element-binding factor 2c （DREB2c） is a member of the cBF/DREB subfamily of proteins, which contains a single APETALA2/Ethylene responsive element-binding factor （AP2/ERF） domain. To identify the expression pattern of the DREB2c gene, which contains multiple transcription cis-regulatory elements in its promoter, an approximately 1.4 kb upstream DREB2c sequence was fused to the β-glucuronidase reporter gene （GUS） and the recombinant p1244 construct was transformed into Arabidopsis thaliana （L.） Heynh. The promoter of the gene directed prominent GUS activity in the vasculature in diverse young dividing tissues. Upon applying heat stress （HS）, GUS staining was also enhanced in the vasculature of the growing tissues. Analysis of a series of 5＇-deletions of the DREB2c promoter revealed that a proximal upstream sequence sufficient for the tissue-specific spatial and temporal induction of GUS expression by HS is localized in the promoter region between -204 and -34 bps relative to the transcriptional start site. Furthermore, electrophoretic mobility shift assay （EMSA） demonstrated that nuclear protein binding activities specific to a -120 to -32 bp promoter fragment increased after HS. These results indicate that the TATA-proximal region and some latent trans-acting factors may cooperate in HS-induced activation of the Arabidopsis DREB2c promoter.

In this work,a machine learning(ML)model was created to predict intrinsic hardness of various compounds using their crystal *** this purpose,an initial dataset,containing the hardness values of 270 compounds and counterpart applied loads,was employed in the learning *** on various features generated using crystal information,an ML model,with a high accuracy(R^(2)=0.942),was built using extreme gradient boosting(XGB)*** validations conducted by hardness measurements of various compounds,including MSi_(2)(M=Nb,ce,V,and Ta),Al_(2)O_(3),and FeB_(4),showed that the XGB model was able to reproduce load-dependent hardness behaviors of these *** addition,this model was also used to predict the behavior based on prototype crystal structures that are randomly substituted with elements.
