A study on the rare earth elements (REEs) of Redang Island marine sediments was conducted in August 2011 during the premonsoon season. Bottom sediments were collected from 27 sampling stations on board UMT Discovery II vessel using a Smith McIntyre grab and analyzed for rare earth elements (REEs) using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (IcP-MS). Results showed that the REEs patterns in sediments reflected the source rock patterns with an overall order of abundance such as: light rare earth elements (LREE) > middle rare earth element (MREE) > high rare earth elements (HREE). The chondrite normalized patterns of REEs showed enrichment of LREEs over HREEs with La/Yb of 13.6 while the chondrite normalized value showed low (Gd/Yb)n ratios (2.12) which was illustrated in the flat HREE pattern. The chondrite normalized REE patterns of sediments showed the enrichment of LREE and depletion of HREE. From our findings, REEs concentrations in the study area were found to be of geogenic origins and the distributions were not influenced by anthropogenic sources.

The industry-oriented-bilateral project ( "Environmental friendly strategy for Waste Management in India Utilising cement and concrete Production Technology" ) between India and norway was established in 2009 and will continue to the end of 2011. It aims to further increase the utilisation of mineral wastes in Indian cement and concrete industry in an environmentally and scientifically sound way in order to ensure sustainable energy and resource management. The project intends to advance the state of the art regarding blended cement and concrete technology as well as provide practical solutions and guidelines. Emphasis are given to the synergies achieved by using ternary binder systems in concrete mixes as well as the use of appropriate admixtures in order to integrate certain waste materials at higher levels than today's practice. The prioritised materials are coal combustion residues,slag and c&D waste. The background,project concept and the current status are presented.

Abstract High altitude test facilities are required to test the high area ratio nozzles operating at the upper stages of rocket in the nozzle full flow conditions. It is typically achieved by creating the ambient pressure equal or less than the nozzle exit pressure. On average, air/Gn2 is used as active gas for ejector system that is stored in the high pressure cylinders. The wind tunnel facilities are used for conducting aerodynamic simulation experiments at/under various flow velocities and operating conditions. However, constructing both of these facilities require more laboratory space and expensive instruments. Because of this demerit, a novel scheme is implemented for conducting wind tunnel experiments by using the existing infrastructure available in the high altitude testing （HAT） facility. This article presents the details about the methods implemented for suitably modifying the sub-scale HAT facility to conduct wind tunnel experiments. Hence, the design of nozzle for required area ratio A/A＊, realization of test section and the optimized configuration are focused in the present analysis. Specific insights into various rocket models including high thrust cryogenic engines and their holding mechanisms to conduct wind tunnel experiments in the HAT facility are analyzed. A detailed cFD analysis is done to propose this conversion without affecting the existing functional requirements of the HAT facility.

Scalp cooling is a widely used method to prevent chemotherapy-induced transient alopecia. Although the success rates in maintaining hair can be high, authors have expressed their concerns regarding the risk of scalp metastasis after scalp cooling. We report a case of breast cancer scalp metastasis in a patient submitted to scalp cooling for alopecia prevention and discuss the physiopathology, risks and benefits of this treatment for patients under this treatment.

The crystal structure, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of(Ho_(1-x) Y_(0.5))_5 Pd_2 compounds are investigated. All the compounds crystallize in a cubic Dy_5 Pd_2-type structure with the space group Fd3 m and undergo a second order transition from spin glass(SG) state to paramagnetic(PM) state. The spin glass transition temperatures T_g decrease from 26 K for x = 0 to 13 K for x = 0.5. In the PM region, the reciprocal susceptibilities for all the compounds obey the curie–Weiss law. The paramagnetic curie temperatures(θp) for Ho_5 Pd_2,(Ho_(0.75) Y_(0.25)_5 Pd_2, and(Ho_(0.5) Y_(0.5))_5 Pd_2 are determined to be 32 K, 30 K, and 22 K, respectively, and the corresponding effective magnetic moments(μeff) are10.8 μB/Ho, 10.3 μB/RE, and 7.5 μB/RE, respectively. Magnetocaloric effect(McE) is anticipated according to the Maxwell relation, based on the isothermal magnetization curves. For a magnetic field change of 0–5 T, the maximum values of the isothermal magnetic entropy change-?SMof the(Ho_(1-x)Y_x)_5 Pd_2(x = 0, 0.25, and 0.5) compounds are determined to be 11.5 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), 11.1 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), and 8.9 K J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), with corresponding refrigerant capacity values of 382.3 J·kg^(-1), 336.2 J·kg^(-1), and 242.5 J·kg^(-1), respectively.

Background： Hamburger is the most consumed beef product in north America, but lacks in nutritional appeal due to its high fat content and high proportion of saturated fatty acids （SFA）. Objectives of the present study were to improve the FA profiles of hamburgers made with perirenal fat （PRF） and subcutaneous fat （ScF） when feeding steers different diets along with examining differences in sensory attributes and oxidative stability. Diets included a control diet containing 70：30 red clover silage： barley based concentrate, a diet containing sunflower-seed （SS） substituted for barley, and diets containing SS with 15% wheat dried distillers＇ grain with solubles （DDGS-15） or 30% DDGS （DDGS-30）. Hamburgers were made from triceps brachii and either PRF or ScF （80：20 w/w）. Results： Perirenal fat versus ScF hamburgers FA had 14.3% more （P 〈0.05） 18：0, 11.8% less cis （c）9-18：1 （P 〈0.05）, and 1.82% more total trdns （t）-18：1 mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1. During sensory evaluation, PRF versus ScF hamburgers had greater （P 〈0.05） mouth coating, but the difference was less than one panel unit. Examining effects of steer diet within PRF hamburgers, feeding the SS compared to the control diet increased （P 〈0.05） t-18：1 by 2.89% mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1, feeding DGGS-15 diet led to no further changes （P 〉0.05）, but feeding DDGS-30 diet reduced the proportions of （P 〈0.05） of t-18：1 chiefly tl 1-18：1. Feeding SS and DDGS diets had small but significant （P 〈0.05） effects on hamburger sensory attributes and oxidative stability. conclusions： Feeding high-forage diets including SS and 15% DDGS, and taking advantage of the FA heterogeneity between fat depots offers an opportunity to differentially enhance beef hamburgers with 18：2n-6 biohydrogenation products （Le., t11-18：1） with potential human health benefits without compromising their sensory attributes and oxidative stability during retail display.

The adsorption of Mn2＋ onto immobilized Mn-oxide and Fe-oxide adsorbent such as manganese oxide-coated sand 1 （MOcS1）, manganese oxide-coated sand2 （MOcS2）, iron oxide-coated sand2 （IOcS2）, and manganese and iron oxide-coated sand （MIOcS）was investigated. The effects of pH （5.5 to 8.0） and temperature （25 to45°c） on the equilibrium capacitywere examined. Equilibrium studies showed that there is a good fitwith both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm,which indicates surface heterogeneity and monolayer adsorption of the adsorbents. Kineticdata showed high correlationwith the pseudo second-order model,which signifies a chemisorption-controlled mechanism. The activation energies, activation parameters （ΔG＊,ΔH＊,ΔS＊）, and thermodynamic parameters （ΔG0 , ΔH0 , ΔS0 ） confirmed that adsorptionwith MIOcSwas endothermic and more spontaneous at higher temperaturewhile an opposite trendwas observed for the other adsorbents. Thermodynamic studies showed that adsorption involved formation of activated complex,where MOcS1 and MIOcS follow a physical-chemical mechanism,while MOcS2 and IOcS2 follows purely chemical mechanism.

This pilot study attempts to demonstrate some underlying scanning electron microscopy themes of quartz grain surface textures. A variety of textural patterns and individual features are described for grains selected from various littoral environments. An attempt was made to differentiate samples on surface textures alone, but limitations of using this technique in sedimentological isolation were apparent. Statistical analysis of checklist data and photographic evidence revealed some of the more important feature combinations used in environmental diagnosis. The use of discriminant analysis provided quantitative sample separation.

Many plants contain ribosome inactivating proteins (RIPs) with n-glycosidase activity, which depurinate large ribosomal RnA and arrest protein synthesis. RIPs so far tested inhibit replication of mRnA as well as DnA viruses and these proteins, isolated from plants, are found to be effective against a broad range of viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Most of the research work related to RIPs has been focused on antiviral activity against HIV; however, the exact mechanism of antiviral activity is still not clear. The mechanism of antiviral activity was thought to follow inactivation of the host cell ribosome, leading to inhibition of viral protein translation and host cell death. Enzymatic activity of RIPs is not limited to depurination of the large rRnA, in addition they can depurinate viral DnA as well as RnA. Recently, Phase I/II clinical trials have demonstrated the potential use of RIPs for treating patients with HIV disease. The aim of this review is to focus on various RIPs from plants associated with anti-HIV activity.
