From ancient wisdom to modern science:gut microbiota sheds light on property theory of traditional chinese medicine

The property theory of traditional chinese medicine(TcM) has been practiced for thousands of years,playing a pivotal role in the clinical application of TcM. While advancements in energy metabolism,chemical composition analysis, machine learning, ion current modeling, and supercritical fluid technology have provided valuable insight into how aspects of TcM property theory may be measured, these studies only capture specific aspects of TcM property theory in isolation, overlooking the holistic perspective inherent in TcM. To systematically investigate the modern interpretation of the TcM property theory from multidimensional perspectives, we consulted the chinese Pharmacopoeia(2020 edition) to compile a list of chinese materia medica(cMM). Then, using the Latin names of each cMM and gut microbiota as keywords, we searched the PubMed database for relevant research on gut microbiota and cMM. The regulatory patterns of different herbs on gut microbiota were then summarized from the perspectives of the four natures, the five flavors and the meridian tropism. In terms of the four natures, we found that warm-natured medicines promoted the colonization of specific beneficial bacteria,while cold-natured medicines boosted populations of some beneficial bacteria while suppressing pathogenic bacteria. Analysis of the five flavors revealed that sweet-flavored and bitter-flavored cMMs positively influenced beneficial bacteria while inhibiting harmful bacteria. cMMs with different meridian tropism exhibited complex modulative patterns on gut microbiota, with Jueyin(Liver) and Taiyin(Lung) meridian cMMs generally exerting a stronger effect. The gut microbiota may be a biological indicator for characterizing the TcM property theory, which not only enhances our understanding of classic TcM theory but also contributes to its scientific advancement and application in healthcare.

The SARg04 quantum key distribution protocol can offer greater robustness against photon number splitting attacks than the BB84 protocol that is implemented with weak *** this paper,we propose a tight key analysis for the SARg04 protocol,by considering the one-decoy method and investigating its performance under the influence of a detector *** results demonstrate that an increase in block size leads to a slight increase in both the secure key rate and the maximum transmission ***,the detector afterpulse plays a crucial role in practical applications and has a more pronounced effect on the SARg04 protocol compared to the BB84 protocol.

Novel self-assembled porous yolk-shell NiO nanospheres with excellent electrochromic performance for smart windows

HIF-1α facilitates glioma proliferation and invasion by activating pyroptosis signaling axis

The colony formation assays, transwell assays, and wound-healing assays showed that overexpression of HIF-1α promoted proliferation and invasion of glioma *** Overexpression of HIF-lα also increased the expression of inflammatory factors related to pyrolysis (TNF-α, IL-10, and IL-1β) and protein related to pyrolysis signal pathway (NLRP3, ASc, caspase-1, gSDMD, and gSDME).conclusions Therefore, we speculate that HIF-1α promotes the proliferation and invasion of glial cells by regulating pyrolysis pathway. These results might provide a novel strategy and target for treatment of glioma.

Regulation of rhizosphere microenvironment by rice husk ash for reducing the accumulation of cadmium and arsenic in rice

It is important to reduce cd and As content in brown rice in contaminated paddy *** conducted research on the effects of rice husk ash (RHA) on the cd and As in the rhizosphere microenvironment (soil,porewater,and iron plaque) and measured the cd,As,and Si content in rice *** main elements in RHA were Si (29.64%) and O (69.17%),which had the maximum adsorption capacity for cd was 42.49 mg/kg and for As was 18.62 mg/*** pH and available Si content increased,while soil available cd and As decreased following application of 0.5%–2%*** promote the transformation of cd to insoluble fraction,while As was transformed from a poorly soluble form to a more active *** reduced cd content and increased Si content in porewater,and reduced As only at the later rice growth *** increased the amount of iron plaque,thereby decreasing the cd content in iron plaque,while increased the As content in *** and inorganic As content in brown rice were decreased,to 0.31 mg/kg and 0.18 mg/kg,*** decrease of cd in brown rice was due to the decrease of cd mobility in soil,thereby reducing root accumulation,while the decrease of As in brown rice was affected by the transport from roots to ***,RHA can be considered as a safe and efficient in-situ remediation amendment for cd and As co-contaminated paddy soil.

The interactions between lignin oligomers and solvents determine the behaviors of lignin oligomers self-assembling into uniform lignin nanoparticles(LNPs).Herein,several alcohol solvents,which readily interact with the lignin oligomers,were adopted to study their effects during solvent shifting process for LNPs’*** lignin oligomers with widely distributed molecular weight and abundant guaiacyl units were extracted from wood waste(mainly consists of pine wood),exerting outstanding self-assembly *** and spherical LNPs were generated in H_(2)O-n-propanol cosolvent,whereas irregular LNPs were obtained in H_(2)O-methanol *** unsatisfactory self-assembly performance of the lignin oligomers in H_(2)O-methanol cosolvent could be attributed to two *** one hand,for the initial dissolution state,the distinguishing Hansen solubility parameter and polarity between methanol solvent and lignin oligomers resulted in the poor dispersion of the lignin *** the other hand,strong hydrogen bonds between methanol solvent and lignin oligomers during solvent shifting process,hindered the interactions among the lignin oligomers for self-assembly.

H7N9 subtype avian influenza virus poses a great challenge for poultry *** disease virus(NDV)-vectored H7N9 avian influenza vaccines(NDV_(vec)H7N9)are effective in disease control because they are protective and allow mass *** note,these vaccines elicit undetectable H7N9-specific hemagglutination-inhibition(HI)but high Igg antibodies in ***,the molecular basis and protective mechanism underlying this particular antibody immunity remain ***,immunization with an NDV_(vec)H7N9 induced low anti-H7N9 HI and virus neutralization titers but high levels of hemagglutinin(HA)-binding Igg antibodies in *** residues(S150,g151 and S152)in HA of H7N9 virus were identified as the dominant epitopes rec.gnized by the NDV_(vec)H7N9 immune *** transferred NDV_(vec)H7N9 immune serum conferred complete protection against H7N9 virus infection in *** NDV_(vec)H7N9 immune serum can mediate a potent lysis of HA-expressing and H7N9 virus-infected cells and significantly suppress H7N9 virus *** activities of the serum were significantly impaired after heat-inactivation or treatment with complement inhibitor,suggesting the engagement of the complement ***,mutations in the 150-SgS-152 sites in HA resulted in significant reductions in cell lysis and virus neutralization mediated by the NDV_(vec)H7N9 immune serum,indicating the requirement of antibody-antigen binding for complement ***,antibodies induced by the NDV_(vec)H7N9 can activate antibody-dependent complement-mediated lysis of H7N9 virus-infected cells and complement-mediated neutralization of H7N9 *** findings unveiled a novel role of the complement in protection conferred by the NDV_(vec)H7N9,highlighting a potential benefit of engaging the complement system in H7N9 vaccine design.
