The formation of shear bands in metallic glasses(MGs)was examined by tailoring localized complex stress fields(LcSFs).The findings have shown that the LcSFs in MGs can increase the localization of strained atoms and accelerate the release of accumulated deformation energy for initiating a shear band in confined and thin-layered *** findings not only add more knowledge to the formation mechanisms of shear bands in MGs,but also provide possible rationale for the discrepancies in the mechanical properties of different-sized *** compared with the bulk samples,the higher strength and larger elastic limits in nanoscaled MGs could be attributed to the elimination of stress-concentrators,which can serve as LcSFs.

The experience,perception,awareness,and appreciation of the environment created by public spaces are important elements of urban *** this context,a strong link exists between perception,public spaces,and historical *** is one of the multilayered historical cities in ***’s holistic urban texture,close relationship with the river,and public spaces are associated with both the Iris River and the historical *** pilot study examines the Yalıboyu Promenade,a contemporary open public space designed along the river and across the historical texture in Amasya in Turkey to reveal how it affects people’s perception of the historical *** study uses the mixed method approach,which includes qualitative and quantitative *** the theoretical discussion,the study investigates the context of the *** survey results revealed how the firsttime visitors had perceived the historical texture of the promenade based on Rapoport’s method of using environmental *** results were interpreted by jointly evaluating qualitative and survey ***,although some aspects need improvement,the promenade solidifies the perception of the historical ***,when the public space is integrated with the historical environment and public life,it offers multidimensional contributions that cannot be ***,examining the promenade from perceptual aspects and offering a design approach to promote integration with the historical environment may help to establish a precedent case for future initiatives.

Accurate and reliable evaluation of muscle strength in para-athletes is essential for monitoring the effectiveness of strength training and/or rehabilitation programmes,and sport *** aim is to synthesise evidence related to assessing muscle strength in *** databases were searched from January 1990 to July 2021 for observational studies focusing on strength *** screening,data extraction,and quality assessment were performed in duplicate.A total of 1764 potential studies were *** met the inclusion criteria and were included in the *** mean age of participants was 30.7 years(standard deviation[SD]:2.4).The majority were men(88%)participating in wheelchair sports,including basketball,rugby,and tennis(23/30:76%).Overall quality varied,with more than half of the studies failing to identify strategies for dealing with confounding *** manual muscle testing being a standard component of para-sport classification systems,evidence examining strength characteristics in para-athletes is derived primarily from isometric and isokinetic *** studies that included comparative strength data,findings were *** studies found strength values were similar to or lower than able-bodied athletic ***,an important observation was that others reported higher shoulder strength in para-athletes taking part in wheelchair sports than both able-bodied and disabled *** need to develop accessible,standardised strength testing methods that account for training influence and establish normative strength values in *** is also a need for additional studies that include female para-athletes and para-athletes with greater functional impairments.

Exciton-polariton condensation is regarded as a spontaneous macroscopic quantum phenomenon with phase ordering and collective *** engineering artificial annular potential landscapes in halide perovskite semiconductor microcavities,we experimentally and theoretically demonstrate the room-temperature spontaneous formation of a coherent superposition of exciton-polariton orbital states with symmetric petal-shaped patterns in real space,resulting from symmetry breaking due to the anisotropic effective potential of the birefringent perovskite *** lobe numbers of such petal-shaped polariton condensates can be precisely controlled by tuning the annular potential *** petal-shaped condensates form in multiple orbital states,carrying locked alternating nphase shifts and vortex-anti vortex superposition cores,arising from the coupling of counterrotating exciton-polaritons in the confined circular *** geometrically patterned microcavity exhibits promise for realizing room-temperature topological polaritonic devices and optical polaritonic switches based on periodic annular potentials.

Public health decision makers rely on hospitalization forecasts to inform cOVID-19 pandemic planning and resource *** forecasts are most relevant when they are accurate,made available quickly,and updated *** rapidly adapted an agent-based model(ABM)to provide weekly 30-day hospitalization forecasts(i.e.,demand for intensive care unit[IcU]beds and non-IcU beds)by state and region in North carolina for public health decision *** ABM was based on a synthetic population of North carolina residents and included movement of agents(i.e.,patients)among North carolina hospitals,nursing homes,and the *** assigned SARScoV-2 infection to agents using county-level compartmental models and determined agents’cOVID-19 severity and probability of hospitalization using synthetic population characteristics(e.g.,age,comorbidities).We generated weekly 30-day hospitalization forecasts during MayeDecember 2020 and evaluated the impact of major model updates on statewide forecast accuracy under a SARS-coV-2 effective reproduction number range of *** the 21 forecasts included in the assessment,the average mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)was 7.8%for non-IcU beds and 23.6%for IcU *** the major model updates,integration of near-real-time hospital occupancy data into the model had the largest impact on improving forecast accuracy,reducing the average MAPE for non-IcU beds from 6.6%to 3.9%and for IcU beds from 33.4%to 6.5%.Our results suggest that future pandemic hospitalization forecasting efforts should prioritize early inclusion of hospital occupancy data to maximize accuracy.

The Benue Trough Basin (BTB) of Nigeria is geologically and geo-morphologically subdivided into upper,middle, and lower segments. The BTB is the subject of geological research due to its rich coal depositsthat have the potential for oil and gas. The purpose of the present study is to examine the origins,depositional environments, and thermal history of the selected coals and the processes that influencetheir quality. coal samples from different open cast coal mines in the middle BTB were examined usingproximate and ultimate, x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), laser ablation induced coupledplasma (LA-IcPMS), and petrographical analyses. The coal samples contained mainly quartz, kaolinite,and organic carbon. The XRD spectra peaks revealed the triclinic and monoclinic structure of kaolin. TheSiO2/Al2O3 ratios confirmed the dominance of quartz and kaolinite. The Ni/co versus V/cr, cu/Zn, and V/Mo values in the studied coals suggest oxic depositional environments, whereas the V/(Ni þ V) and V/(V þ cr) values indicate oxic to suboxic conditions. The ce/ce* values are slightly below 1, which indicates a suboxic depositional environment. Maceral texture is indicative of transformations from subbituminous to high volatile c or B bituminous coal. The maceral components and mineral matter(10%) of the studied coals imply deposition in the planar margin mire, and a river system of planarmargin mire environments, respectively. The high gelification index (GI) and tissue preservation index(TPI) values indicate peat accumulation developed within a wet forest swamp. The ternary diagram ofthe maceral component suggests deposition in a wet moor environment with intermittent moderate tohigh flooding episodes. The studied coals are sub-hydrous vitrinite inferring hydrogen-poor and thermally immature characteristics. The low V and Ni contents, low H/c and high O/c, indicate Type IIIterrestrial organic matter with the potential to generate gaseous hydrocarbons. The investi

BAcKGROUND Osteoarthritis(OA)is the most common joint disorder,is associated with an increasing socioeconomic impact owing to the ageing *** To analyze and compare the efficacy and safety of bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells(BM-MScs)and adipose tissue-derived MScs(AD-MScs)in knee OA management from published randomized controlled trials(RcTs).METHODS Independent and duplicate electronic database searches were performed,including PubMed,EMBASE,Web of Science,and cochrane Library,until August 2021 for RcTs that analyzed the efficacy and safety of AD-MScs and BM-MScs in the management of knee *** visual analog scale(VAS)score for pain,Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAc),Lysholm score,Tegner score,magnetic resonance observation of cartilage repair tissue score,knee osteoarthritis outcome score(KOOS),and adverse events were *** was performed on the R-platform using OpenMeta(Analyst)***-one studies,involving 936 patients,were *** one study compared the two MSc sources without patient randomization;hence,the results of all included studies from both sources were pooled,and a comparative critical analysis was *** At six months,both AD-MScs and BM-MScs showed significant VAS improvement(P=0.015,P=0.012);this was inconsistent at 1 year for BM-MScs(Pcs outperformed BM-MScs compared to controls in measures such as WOMAc(Pcores(P=0.006;P=0.933),and KOOS(P=0.002;P=0.012).BM-MSc-related procedures caused significant adverse events(P=0.003)compared to AD-MScs(P=0.673).cONcLUSION Adipose tissue is superior to bone marrow because of its safety and consistent efficacy in improving pain and functional *** trials are urgently warranted to validate our findings and reach a consensus on the ideal source of MScs for managing knee OA.
