In vitro calcification studies on bioprosthetic and decellularized heart valves under quasi-physiological flow conditions

The lifespan of biological heart valve prostheses available in the market is limited due to structural alterations caused by calcium phosphate deposits formed from blood plasma in contact with the tissues.The objective of this work is to present a comparative methodology for the investigation of the formation of calcium phosphate deposits on bioprosthetic and tissue-engineered scaffolds in vitro and the influence of mechanical forces on tissue mineralization.Based on earlier investigations on biological mineralization at constant supersaturation,a circulatory loop simulating dynamic blood flow and physiological pressure conditions was developed.The system was appropriately adapted to evaluate the calcification potential of decellularized(dcV)and glutaraldehyde-fixed(GAV)porcine aortic valves.Results indicated that dcV calcified at higher,statistically nonsignificant,rates in comparison with GAV.This difference was attributed to the tissue surface modifications and cell debris leftovers from the decellularization process.Morphological analysis of the solids deposited after 20 h by scanning electron microscopy in combination with chemical microanalysis electron-dispersive spectroscopy identified the solid formed as octacalcium phosphate(ca8(PO4)6H2·5H2O,OcP).OcP crystallites were preferentially deposited in high mechanical stress areas of the test tissues.Moreover,GAV tissues developed a significant transvalvular pressure gradient increase past 36 h with a calcium deposition distribution similar to the one found in explanted prostheses.In conclusion,the presented in vitro circulatory model serves as a valuable prescreening methodology for the investigation of the calcification process of bioprosthetic and tissue-engineered valves under physiological mechanical load.

Evolution-aided engineering of plant specialized metabolism

The evolution of new traits in living organisms occurs via the processes of mutation,recombination,genetic.drift,and selection.These processes that have resulted in the immense biol ogical diversity on our planet are also being employed in metabolic engineering to optimize enzymes and pathways,create new-to-nature reactions,and synthesize complex natural products in heterologous systems.In this review,we discuss two evolution-aided strategies for metabolic engineering-directed evolution,which improves upon existing genetic templates using the evolutionary process,and combinatorial pathway reconstruction,which brings together genes evolved in different organisms into a single heterol ogous host.We discuss the general principles of these strategies,describe the technologies involved and the molecular traits they influence,provide examples of their use,and discuss the roadblocks that need to be addressed for their wider adoption.A better understanding of these strategies can provide an impetus to research on gene function discovery and biochemical evolution,which is foundational for improved metabolic engineering.These evolution-aided approaches thus have a substantial potential for improving our understanding of plant metabolism in general,for enhancing the production of plant metabolites,and in sustainable agriculture.

Urban Soil Microbial Features and Their Environmental Significance as Exemplified by Aberdeen city, UK

Urban soil research has invoked great interest in recent years. Previous studies were mainly focused on urban soil physics and chemistry, and soil geography to constrain the source, distribution, transport and deposition of pollutants such as heavy metals and health\|hazardous organic matter, but little has been done on soil microbiology. In this paper, the authors reported the variation of microbial features in urban soils compared with those from adjacent rural areas. The results show great changes in basal respiration rates, microbial biomass and ecophysiological parameters have taken place in urban environment because of the anthropogenic stress, thus activating the microorganisms. As a result, much more energy carbon is consumed at a low utilization efficiency. So microbial biosensors can be used to indicate urban environmental pollution effectively.

饮绿茶与成年人白血病发病风险的病例对照研究

目的探讨饮用绿茶与成年人白血病发病风险的关系。方法采用配对病例对照研究，收集2005年1月至2006年12月确诊的白血病患者107例，以同期骨科非肿瘤住院患者110例对照，采用面对面交谈的方式，使用统一的调查问卷，收集所有对象的饮茶量、饮茶持续年限和频率、暴露于放射线及职业危害因素、药物应用等信息；用SPSS软件进行单因素、多因素非条件logistic回归分析评估OR值及其95％cI。结果与不饮茶组相比，随着饮用绿茶的量、持续年限和频率增加，成年人患白血病的危险度呈下降趋势。单因素分析显示，饮绿茶组患白血病的OR=0．58（95％cI：0．34～1．00：P〈0.05），在对性别、年龄、居住地、吸烟、受教育程度、暴露于射线及职业危害因素等混杂因素进行调整后，饮绿茶组发生白血病的OR=0.52（95％cI：0．28～0．98；P=0．04），且随着饮茶频率、饮茶年限和饮用茶叶量的增加，OR值逐渐降低，结果有统计学意义。结论饮绿茶可能是成年人白血病的保护性因素，并与饮绿茶频率、饮绿茶量及饮绿茶时间有关。

纺织品不同的表面结构可通过织造、缝合或毡合等工艺技术实现,窄幅织物也可以采用编织的方法加工。这些工艺技术最初都是采用手工加工,然后进一步发展为机器加工。钩编是机器无法完成的极少数手工制作技术之一(“钩编机”是仅用于窄幅织物的经编机,其他钩编机只能用空气针钩编)。使用真正的钩编机可以生产其他电子控制的纺织设备无法生产的新型织物结构。目前,德国Bielefeld应用科技大学已制造出世界上第一台钩编原型机。

Edible insects are considered rich in protein and a variety of micronutrients and are therefore regarded as one of the potential contributors to food security.The chinese oak silkworm,Antheraea pernyi（Guérin-Méneville 1855）,has been collecting from oak trees in the wild for at least 2000 years,and chinese farmers developed the artificial rearing of chinese oak silkworm for silk production before the 17th century.Recently,about 5×104 t of A.pernyi including the fifth-instar larvae,pupae and moths are consuming as delicious food in china per year.A total of 18 amino ac.ds,16 fatty ac.ds,13 minerals,five vitamins and seven human hormones in the human diet have been detected in larvae,pupae and adults of A.pernyi.In this review,we summarised the complete nutrient content of four developmental stages of this economically important insect.All available data suggest that chinese oak silkworm is a nutrition-rich and healthy and sustainable food item of the future.This review could provide podium to food and feed industry for framing a strategy for molecular nutritional component intake into the diets of humans and animals.Moreover,this paper would contribute to advance exploring for developmental and metabolic biology of chinese oak silkworm.

3d打印属于叠加式制造方式,可创造出多种三维模型。3d打印的缺点之一是制造大型物体时耗时较长。因此,目前最先进的技术仅限于制造小型物体。3d打印与其他材料相结合有助于克服由印刷时间所造成的缺点。如使用传统技术制造的大型物体的特定位置,可由3d打印完成,以创建所需的功能。此前,将聚合物3d打印在机织物上的试验研究结果表明:印刷材料和机织物结构的不同,导致二者之间的黏附力差异较大。该结果也适用于针织物的3d打印。试验所用材料均为聚乳酸(PLA),因其与机织物的黏合力最强。熔融沉积成型(FdM)打印项目,研究了针织织物种类、材料、结构、织机机号等变化,对喷嘴的尺寸、打印高度、印刷床温度等的影响,并对结果进行了总结。同时,对针织物3d打印过程中必需进行的测试进行了展望。

目的在重症监护病房(IntensivecareUnit,IcU),护土难免会遇到需要限制治疗努力(limiting therapeutie efort,LTE)的患者,尽管多数护士还缺乏为这些临终患者及其家庭提供支持的准备。本综述旨在描述IcU护士在LTE中需要具备的能力。方法对2010年--2023年发表的文献进行综述。系统检索了5个数据库:Medline、Wiley Online Library、SciELO、Scienc.direct和Web of Science。使用关键评估项目工具西班牙语版(critical Appraisal Skills Programme in Spanish,cASPe)作为评判性阅读工具。使用牛津循证医学中心(center for Evidence-Based Medicine.,cEBM)评估工具确定证据级别和推荐强度。结果共纳入25篇文献。IcU护士LTE护理的能力包括对患者的直接护理、以家庭为中心的护理以及护士在团队中的作用。该综述确定了3个类别的能力:作为患者、家庭与跨学科团队之间维护者的能力,在LTE方面的决策能力,在患者生命末期治疗和护理干预的能力。结论IcU护士在LTE方面需要具备相应的能力,这对患者的生活质量死亡尊严以及患者家庭应对悲伤的全面支持至关重要。
