The aim of this work is to predict, for the first time, the high temperature flow stress dependency with the grain size and the underlaid deformation mechanism using two machine learning models, random forest（RF） and artificial neural network（ANN）. With that purpose, a ZK30 magnesium alloy was friction stir processed（FSP） using three different severe conditions to obtain fine grain microstructures（with average grain sizes between 2 and 3 μm） prone to extensive superplastic response. The three friction stir processed samples clearly deformed by grain boundary sliding（GBS） deformation mechanism at high temperatures. The maximum elongations to failure, well over 400% at high strain rate of 10-2s-1, were reached at 400 ℃ in the material with coarsest grain size of 2.8 μm, and at 300 ℃ for the finest grain size of 2 μm. Nevertheless, the superplastic response decreased at 350 ℃ and 400 ℃ due to thermal instabilities and grain coarsening, which makes it difficult to assess the operative deformation mechanism at such temperatures. This work highlights that the machine learning models considered, especially the ANN model with higher accuracy in predicting flow stress values, allow determining adequately the superplastic creep behavior including other possible grain size scenarios.

catalytic transfer hydrogenation(cTH)is a green and efficient pathway for selective hydrogenation of unsaturated aldehydes and ketones.However,managing the abilities of solid catalysts to adsorb substrates and to convert them into desired products is a challenging task.Herein,we report the synthesis of carbon coated LaFe_(0.92)Pd_(0.08)O_(3) composites(LFPO-8@c)for cTH of benzaldehyde(BzH)into benzyl alcohol(BzOH),using isopropanol(IPA)as hydrogen source.The coating with carbon improves the ability to adsorb/transfer reactants from solution to active sites,and the doping of Pd2+at Fe3+site strengthens the ability of LaFeO_(3) to convert BzH into BzOH.A balanced point between them(i.e.,abilities to adsorb BzH and to convert BzH into BzOH)is obtained at LFPO-8@c,which exhibits a BzOH formation rate of 3.88 mmol·gcat^(-1)·h^(-1) at 180℃ for 3 h,which is 1.50 and 2.72 times faster than those of LFPO-8 and LaFeO_(3)@c.A reaction mechanism is proposed,in which the acidic sites(e.g.,Fe^(4+),oxygen vacancy)are used for the activation of c=O bond of BzH and O-H bond of IPA,and the basic sites(e.g.,lattice oxygen)for the activation ofα-H(O-H)bond of IPA.

Extreme Weather Disruptions and Emergency Preparedness Among Older Adults in Ohio: An Eight-county Assessment

The disproportionate risks and impacts of climate change and extreme weather on older adults are increasingly evident. While especially true in disaster-prone areas, human-caused climate change introduces an element of uncertainty even in previously identified “safe” regions such as the Midwestern United States. Using a cumulative disadvantage and vulnerability-informed framework and descriptive statistics from multiple data sources, this article provides an overview of climate impacts, vulnerabilities, and county-level characteristics, focusing on older adults living in central Ohio. A comparative multiple-case study methodology was used to triangulate regionally representative primary and secondary data sources to examine state and county-level measures of vulnerability, emergency preparedness, and disruptions caused by extreme weather among older adults across eight counties in central Ohio. Seventy-eight percent of older adults in the sample reported being prepared for emergencies per Federal Emergency Management Agency guidelines. Older adults in Union county reported the highest rates of preparedness, while those in Fayette county reported the lowest. county-level rates of disruption of life activities by extreme weather ranged widely. Among the most rural in the region, Fayette county emerged as uniquely disadvantaged, with the lowest median income, the most vulnerable across multiple social vulnerability dimensions, and the most reported disruptions to life activities from extreme weather. county profiles offer a snapshot of existing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic conditions, special needs, preparedness, and current disruptions among older adults in the region and can inform resource mobilization across community and policy contexts.

Macroalgae are multicellular,aquatic autotrophs that play vital roles in global climate maintenance and have diverse applications in biotechnology and eco-engineering,which are directly linked to their multicellularity phenotypes.However,their genomic diversity and the evolutionary mechanisms underlying multicellularity in these organisms remain uncharacterized.In this study,we sequenced 110 macroalgal genomes from diverse climates and phyla,and identified key genomic features that distinguish them from their microalgal relatives.Genes for cell adhesion,extracellular matrix formation,cell polarity,transport,and cell differentiation distinguish macroalgae from microalgae across all three major phyla,constituting conserved and unique gene sets supporting multicellular processes.Adhesome genes show phylum-and climate-specific expansions that may facilitate niche adaptation.collectively,our study reveals genetic determinants of convergent and divergent evolutionary trajectories that have shaped morphological diversity in macroalgae and provides genome-wide frameworks to understand photosynthetic multicellular evolution in aquatic environments.

In many songbird species,birdsong features phonological syntax,meaning that the units within their vocal se-quences are ordered in a non-random way that adheres to a rule.While such syntactical patterns have been richly described in many species,comparatively little is known about how those patterns contribute to song achieving its important functions.For each of song’s main functions,territorial defense and mate attraction,evidence of a role for syntax is limited.One species for which syntax has been thoroughly described is the Hermit Thrush(catharus guttatus),which presents song types from their repertoires in a semi-predictable order and,in doing so,rapidly cycle up and down the frequency spectrum.The objective of the present study was to explore the importance of song syntax in the Hermit Thrush through a within-subject examination of how measures of syntax,such as the predictability of song type order within song sequences,shift over the breeding season.We hypothesized that,if such syntactical characteristics are important to breeding behaviour,they would be most prominent at the start of the breeding season when activity associated with territory establishment and mate attraction is most intense.Analysis revealed that,as predicted,the rigidness of song type ordering within se-quences was highest at the start of the season and declined thereafter.That song type sequences were most predictable at the vitally important early part of the breeding season fit our hypothesis that this aspect of song syntax is important to song’s functions related to territory establishment and/or mate attraction.Future work will clarify whether that role relates to one of song’s two main functions or serves song transmission in some broader way.

Improving Heat Transfer in Parabolic Trough Solar collectors by Magnetic Nanofluids

A parabolic trough solar collector(PTSc)converts solar radiation into thermal energy.However,low thermal efficiency of PTSc poses a hindrance to the deployment of solar thermal power plants.Thermal performance of PTSc is enhanced in this study by incorporating magnetic nanoparticles into the working fluid.The circular receiver pipe,with dimensions of 66 mm diameter,2 mm thickness,and 24 m length,is exposed to uniform temperature and velocity conditions.The working fluid,Therminol-66,is supplemented with Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles at concentrations ranging from 1%to 4%.The findings demonstrate that the inclusion of nanoparticles increases the convective heat transfer coefficient(HTc)of the PTSc,with higher nanoparticle volume fractions leading to greater heat transfer but increased pressure drop.The thermal enhancement factor(TEF)of the PTSc is positively affected by the volume fraction of nanoparticles,both with and without a magnetic field.Notably,the scenario with a 4%nanoparticle volume fraction and a magnetic field strength of 250 G exhibits the highest TEF,indicating superior thermal performance.These findings offer potential avenues for improving the efficiency of PTScs in solar thermal plants by introducing magnetic nanoparticles into the working fluid.

BAcKGROUND Data examining the impact of sex on liver transplant(LT)outcomes are limited.It is clear that further research into sex-related differences in transplant patients is necessary to identify areas for improvement.Elucidation of these differences may help to identify specific areas of focus to improve on the organ matching process,as well as the peri-and post-operative care of these patients.AIM To utilize data from a high-volume Eurotransplant center to compare characteristics of male and female patients undergoing liver transplant and assess association between sex-specific variables with short-and long-term post-transplant outcomes.METHODS A retrospective review of the University of Essen’s transplant database was performed with collection of baseline patient characteristics,transplant-related data,and short-term outcomes.comparisons of these data were made with Shapiro-Wilk,Mann-Whitney U,χ2 and Bonferroni tests applied where appropriate.A P value ofccepted as statistically significant.RESULTS Of the total 779 LT recipients,261(33.5%)were female.Female patients suffered higher incidences of acute liver failure and lower incidences of alcohol-related or viremic liver disease(P=0.001).Female patients were more likely to have received an organ from a female donor with a higher donor risk index score,and as a high urgency offer(all Pcharacteristics of male and female recipients were also significantly different.In multivariate hazard regression analysis,recipient lab-Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score and donor cause of death were associated with long-term outcomes in females.Pre-operative diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma,age at time of listing,duration of surgery,and units transfused during surgery,were associated with long-term outcomes in males.Severity of complications was associated with long-term outcomes in both groups.Overall survival was similar in both males and females;however,when stratified by age,femalescONcLUSION Fem

Efficient detection of single optical centres in solids is essential for quantum information processing, sensing and single-photon generation applications.In this work,we use radio-frequency（RF） reflectometry to electrically detect the photoionisation induced by a single Er3+ion in Si.The high bandwidth and sensitivity of the RF reflectometry provide sub-100-ns time resolution for the photoionisation detection.With this technique,the optically excited state lifetime of a single Er3+ion in a Si nano-transistor is measured for the first time to be 0.49±0.04μs.Our results demonstrate an efficient approach for detecting a charge state change induced by Er excitation and relaxation.This approach could be used for fast readout of other single optical centres in solids and is attractive for large-scale integrated optical quantum systems thanks to the multi-channel RF reflectometry demonstrated with frequency multiplexing techniques.

Background:Sinusitis is a common diagnosis that can be erroneously associated with routine weather‐related barometric pressure changes.In actuality,these pressure changes likely exacerbate migraine headaches,which can cause facial pain and pressure rather than true sinus inflammation.Objective:The present study sought to characterize the representation of both sinusitis and migraine in association with barometric pressure changes across websites on the Internet.Methods:An Internet search for relevant terms was conducted,and content of the resulting pages was assessed for associations between weather‐related pressure changes and either sinusitis or migraine.Variations in reported results across different subtypes of Internet sources were analyzed.The primary outcomes measured were(1)whether a given media source associated barometric weather changes with sinusitis,(2)whether that source associated barometric weather changes with migraine,and(3)treatment options offered by that source.Results:Of the 116 included webpages,36(31.03%)associated sinusitis and routine barometric pressure changes.Of these,10(27.77%)were otolaryngology practice sites.Sixty‐seven webpages(57.76%)associated migraine and routine barometric pressure changes.Of these,nonotolaryngology webpages were more likely to report this link.conclusions:Otolaryngology practice sites were observed to be the most frequent professional medical resource reporting the unsubstantiated claim that routine barometric pressure changes are associated with sinusitis.Nonotolaryngology sources were more likely to link weather‐related pressure changes to migraine.These results suggest that opportunities exist for otolaryngology practice sites to educate patients about nonrhinogenic headache etiologies.

The objective of this study was to offer a review of previous works on Tinospora cordifolia(Tc) metabolomics with a highlight on the use of metabolomics in comparative evaluations between varieties and selection of optimum cultivation, collection, and extraction procedures, providing insights into pharmaceutical and food product quality monitoring. Scholarly databases were searched to gather relevant information on Tc's therapeutic usefulness, phytoconstituent studies, metabolomics, and applications. Pub chem was used to learn the structures of several of the metabolites. The various medicinal properties of Tc were extensively researched. The most essential portions of the plant in Ayurvedic medicines are the stems. Bioactive phytochemicals such as steroidal lactones, alkaloids, diterpenoids, and phenolic compounds are present in the roots and leaves. Metabolomic analysis revealed that, in addition to the season and geographical region of the sample collected, the metabolite profiles of Tc also depend on the parts of the plant taken as a sample and also the plant's stage of growth. The amounts of secondary metabolites differed between morpho/chemotypes within the Tc species. Despite the fact that research on Tc began several decades ago, the diversity of phytoconstituents was not appreciated because of a lack of reliable techniques for phytochemical fingerprinting. The uncovering of several novel metabolites was aided by advances in chromatography combined with mass spectrometry. To produce a full metabolomic profile, researchers used mutually complementary techniques. Following that, data analysis and searches against spectrum databases allowed for signal annotation and interpretation of metabolites in large quantities without separating them separately. The current review includes a critical assessment of metabolomic data and an overview of the technique's various applications. It is vital to establish the metrics of quality control of herbal medicines in order to accomplish formulation purity assessments. Such
