Ensuring a safe foundation design in soft clay is always a challenging task to *** the present study,the effectiveness of under-reamed piles in soft clay underlaid by stiff clay is numerically studied using the lower-bound finite element limit analysis(Lb FELA).The bearing and uplift capacities of under-reamed piles are estimated through non-dimensional factors N_(cul)and Fcul,*** factors increased remarkably and marginally compared to N_(cul)and Fcul of the piles without bulbs when the bulb is placed in stiff and soft clay,*** a given ratio of undrained cohesion of stiff to soft clay(c_(2)/c_(1)),the factors N_(cul)and Fcul moderately increased with the increase in the length-to-shaft-diameter ratio(Lu/D)and adhesion factors in soft clay(α_(s1))and stiff clay(αs2).The variation of radial stress along the pile-soil interface,distribution of axial force in the under-reamed piles,and state of plastic shear failure in the soil are also studied under axial compression and *** results of this study are expected to be useful for the estimation of the bearing and uplift capacities of under-reamed piles in uniform clay and soft clay underlaid by stiff clay.

Existence of out-of-plane conical dispersion for a triangular photonic crystal lattice is reported. It is observed that conical dispersion is maintained for a number of out-of-plane wave vectors（k;）. We study a case where Dirac like linear dispersion exists but the photonic density of states is not vanishing, called Dwarf Dirac cone（DDc） which does not support localized modes. We demonstrate the trapping of such modes by introducing defects in the crystal. Interestingly, we find by k-point sampling as well as by tuning trapped frequency that such a conical dispersion has an inherent light confining property and it is governed by neither of the known wave confining mechanisms like total internal reflection, band gap guidance. Our study reveals that such a conical dispersion in a non-vanishing photonic density of states induces unexpected intense trapping of light compared with those at other points in the continuum. Such studies provoke fabrication of new devices with exciting properties and new functionalities.

A frequency domain analysis is presented to determine the performance characteristics of a tunable all-optical wavelength converter using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a single mode fiber (SMF) around the zero dispersion wavelength using two pump lasers. The output converted signal power as well as efficiency evaluated at a bit rate of 10 Gb/s show that the signal power is substantially higher at lower values of wavelength separation.

Increased gut permeability facilitates the uptake of food allergens into the bloodstream and triggers allergenic *** present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus pentosus S-PT84(S-PT84)and Rubus suavissimus leaf extract(RSLE)against egg ovomucoid(OVM)-uptake in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced increased gut-permeability mice model of food ***-eight weeks old,female c57bL6 mice were continuously fed with LPS(300μg/kg bW),for 3 months to increase gut *** in the expression of sealing claudin-4,increase in the expression of pore-forming claudin-2,and increase in D-mannitol absorption into the blood plasma in the LPS treated groups suggested the increase in gut permeability after LPS *** oral administration of major egg allergen,OVM,after LPS intervention,significantly increased the plasma mast cell protease-1 and OVMspecific IgE compared to the negative control *** results indicated that continuous LPS intervention developed OVM-induced food ***,both the treatment of S-PT84 and RSLE suppressed the claudin-2 expression and the gut permeability induced by ***,S-PT84 and RSLE treatment also reduced the plasma mast cell protease-1 and OVM-specific IgE,indicating the potential beneficial effect against LPS intervention developed OVM-induced food *** findings suggest that S-PT84 and RSLE ameliorated LPS induced gut permeability and food allergic reactions.

Magnetic field topology frozen in ideal magnetohydrodynamics （MHD） and its breakage in near-ideal MHD are reviewed in two parts, clarifying and expanding basic concepts. The first part gives a physically complete description of the frozen field topology derived from magnetic flux conservation as the fundamental property, treating four conceptually related topics： Eulerian and La- grangian descriptions of three dimensional （3D） MHD, chandrasekhar-Kendall and Euler-potential field representations, magnetic helicity, and inviscid vortex dynamics as a fluid system in physical contrast to ideal MHD. A corollary of these developments clar- ifies the challenge of achieving a high degree of the frozen-in condition in numerical MHD. The second part treats field-topology breakage centered around the Parker Magnetostatic Theorem on a general incompatibility of a continuous magnetic field with the dual demand of force-free equilibrium and an arbitrarily prescribed, 3D field topology. Preserving field topology as a global con- straint readily results in formation of tangential magnetic discontinuities, or, equivalently, electric current-sheets of zero thickness. A similar incompatibility is present in the steady force-thermal balance of a heated radiating fluid subject to an anisotropic thermal flux conducted strictly along its frozen-in magnetic field in the low-fl limit. In a weakly resistive fluid the thinning of current sheets by these general incompatibilities inevitably results field notwithstanding the small resistivity. Strong Faraday in sheet dissipation, resistive heating and topological changes in the induction drives but also macroscopically limits this mode of energy dissipation, trapping or storing free energy in self-organized ideal-MHD structures. This property of MHD turbulence captured by the Taylor hypothesis is reviewed in relation to the Sun＇s corona, calling for a basic quantitative description of the breakdown of flux conservation in the low-resistivity li

The observed linear polarization data of comet Hyakutake are studied at wavelengths λ=0.365 μm,λ=0.485 μm and 0.684μm through simulations using ballistic Particle-cluster Aggregate and ballistic cluster-cluster Aggregate aggregates of 128 spherical *** first found that the size parameter of the monomer,x ～ 1.56-1.70,turned out to be the most suitable which provides the best fits to the observed dust scattering properties at three wavelengths：λ=0.365 μm,0.485μm and 0.684μ***,the effective radius of the aggregate （r） lies in the range 0.45 μm ≤ r ≤ 0.49 μm at λ=0.365 μm;0.60 μm ≤ r ≤ 0.66 μm at λ=0.485 μm and 0.88 μm ≤ r ≤ 0.94 μm at λ=0.684 μ*** using superposition T-MATRIX code and the power-law size distribution,n（r）～ r-3,the best-fitting values of complex refractive indices are calculated for the observed polarization data at the above three *** best-fitting complex refractive indices （n,k） are found to be （1.745,0.095） at λ=0.365 μm,（1.743,0.100） at λ=0.485 μm and （1.695,0.100） at λ=0.684 μ*** refractive indices derived from the present analysis correspond to a mixture of both silicates and organics,which are in good agreement with the in situ measurement of comets by different spacecraft.
