Two-dimensional(2D)layered oxides have recently attracted wide attention owing to the strong coupling among charges,spins,lattice,and strain,which allows great flexibility and opportunities in structure designs as well as multifunctionality exploration.In parallel,plasmonic hybrid nanostructures exhibit exotic localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)providing a broad range of applications in nanophotonic devices and sensors.A hybrid material platform combining the unique multifunctional 2D layered oxides and plasmonic nanostructures brings optical tuning into the new level.In this work,a novel self-assembled Bi2MoO6(BMO)2D layered oxide incorporated with plasmonic Au nanoinclusions has been demonstrated via one-step pulsed laser deposition(PLD)technique.comprehensive microstructural characterizations,including scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM),differential phase contrast imaging(DPc),and STEM tomography,have demonstrated the high epitaxial quality and particle-in-matrix morphology of the BMO-Au nanocomposite film.DPc-STEM imaging clarifies the magnetic domain structures of BMO matrix.Three different BMO structures including layered supercell(LSc)and superlattices have been revealed which is attributed to the variable strain states throughout the BMO-Au film.Owing to the combination of plasmonic Au and layered structure of BMO,the nanocomposite film exhibits a typical LSPR in visible wavelength region and strong anisotropy in terms of its optical and ferromagnetic properties.This study opens a new avenue for developing novel 2D layered complex oxides incorporated with plasmonic metal or semiconductor phases showing great potential for applications in multifunctional nanoelectronics devices.

choosing between a rock and a hard place： camouflage in the round-tailed horned lizard Phrynosoma modestum

The round-tailed horned lizardPhrynosoma modestumis cryptically colored and resembles a small stone when it draws legs close to its body and elevates its back. We investigated effectiveness of camouflage inP. modestumand its dependence on stones by placing a lizard in one of two microhabitats (uniform sand or sand with surface rocks approximately the same size as lizards). An observer who knew which microhabitat contained the lizard was asked to locate the lizard visually. Latency to detection was longer and probability of no detection within 60 s was higher for lizards on rock background than on bare sand. In arenas where lizards could choose to occupy rock or bare sand, much higher proportions selected rocky backgrounds throughout the day; at night all lizards slept among stones. A unique posture givesP. modestuma rounded appearance similar to many natural stones. Lizards occasionally adopted the posture, but none did so in response to a nearby experimenter. Stimuli that elicit the posture are unknown. ThatP. modestumis better camouflaged among rocks than on bare sand and prefers to occupy rocky areas suggests that special resemblance to rocks (masquerade) enhances camouflage attributable to coloration and immobility.

Design and Realization of a UV-c Based Disinfection Tools Monitored by Mobile Application

In many outbreaks, patients and healthcare workers are particularly at risk from nosocomial infections as a result of non-effective disinfection methods. With increasing incidence of viral infections such as severe acute respiratory syndrome, in one hand, and the increase in the rate of antibiotic resistant bacteria associated with nosocomial infections in other hand, there is a need to design novel engineering tools for inactivation of nosocomial pathogens. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is considered as a promising method to inactivate bacteria and viruses. This paper presents UV-c Based disinfection tools monitored by mobile application, designed for hospital and Epidemic Treatment center. The evolution of the irradiation intensity over time was evaluated, and the theorical disinfection duration for several nosocomial pathogens was determined. In the case of SARS-coV2, less than 12 minutes were needed to achieve 99.99% viral reduction in a room of 36 sqm.

A Randomized comparison of a Parker Endotracheal Tube and a Standard Tube Oriented 90°counterclockwise

Purpose: During oral fiberoptic intubation, advancement of an endotracheal tube (ETT) into the trachea is occasionally impeded by laryngeal structures. The curved flex tip Parker ETT has been shown to improve the likelihood of successful advancement as opposed to a standard ETT that is advanced in neutral orientation. However, a Parker tube has not been compared to a standard ETT oriented 90° counterclockwise from the neutral position. We hypothesize that fiber-optically-guided advancement of an ETT into the trachea will be more successful when using a Parker tube than a 90° counterclockwise-oriented standard ETT. Methods: This unblinded, randomized controlled trial compares the rate of successful advancement of a fiberoptically-guided endotracheal tube into the trachea. Two groups of randomly assigned patients with non-difficult airways are compared: a Parker flex-tip tube (Parker Group;n = 57) versus a standard ETT oriented 90° counterclockwise (Standard Group;n = 58). Our primary outcome is the first pass success rate of advanceing the ETT into the trachea. Results: First pass success occurred in 48 of 57 (84%) patients in the Parker Group vs. 39 of 58 (67%) of patients in the Standard Group (p = 0.0497). conclusion: When advancing an ETT over an oral fiberoptic scope and into the trachea, a Parker curved flex tip ETT is statistically more likely to be placed successfully on the first pass than is a standard ETT oriented 90° counterclockwise.

The absence of ultrahigh pressure(UHP)orogenic eclogite in the geological record older than c.0.6 Ga is problematic for evidence of subduction having begun on Earth during the Archean(4.0-2.5 Ga).Many eclogites in Phanerozoic and Proterozoic terranes occur as mafic boudins encased within low-density felsic crust,which provides positive buoyancy during subduction;however,recent geochemical proxy analysis shows that Archean continental crust was more mafic than previously thought,having greater proportions of basalt and komatiite than modern-day continents.Here,we show via petrological modelling that secular change in the petrology and bulk composition of upper continental crust would make Archean continental terranes negatively buoyant in the mantle before reaching UHP conditions.Subducted or delaminated Archean continental crust passes a point of no return during metamorphism in the mantle prior to the stabilization of coesite,while Proterozoic and Phanerozoic terranes remain positively buoyant at these depths.UHP orogenic eclogite may thus readily have formed on the Archean Earth,but could not have been exhumed,weakening arguments for a Neoproterozoic onset of subduction and plate tectonics.Further,isostatic balance calculations for more mafic Archean continents indicate that the early Earth was covered by a global ocean over 1 km deep,corroborating independent isotopic evidence for large-scale emergence of the continents no earlier than c.3 Ga.Our findings thus weaken arguments that early life on Earth likely emerged in shallow subaerial ponds,and instead support hypotheses involving development at hydrothermal vents in the deep ocean.

The diffusion coefficient of the minority charge carriers in the base of a silicon solar cell under temperature and subjected to a magnetic field, passes in reso-nance at temperature (Topt). For this same magnetic field, the diffusion coeffi-cient of the photogenerated carriers by a monochromatic light in frequency modulation enters into resonance, at the frequency (ωc). Under this double resonance in temperature and frequency, the diffusion coefficient is used in the expression of the recombination velocity of the minority charge carriers on the back side of the base of the solar cell (n+/p/p+), to obtain, by a graphical method, the optimum thickness. A modeling of the results obtained shows a material saving (Si), in the development of the solar cell.

Evaluation of Gallium Arsenide Thermal Expansion coefficient by Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure

Negative thermal expansion of gallium arsenide has been investigated through temperature dependent Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) measurements. The bond thermal expansion coefficient αbond has been evaluated and compared to negative expansion coefficient αtens due to tension effects. The overall thermal expansion coefficient is the sum?of?αbond?and αtens. Below 60 K, αtens is greater than αbond? yielding to a negative expansion in this temperature region. Tension effects are progressively overcome by the stretching effects in the region 60 - 300 K. The asymmetry of nearest neighbors distribution is not negligible since the gaussian approximation underestimates the bond expansion by about 0.00426 Å. This error decreases when the temperature is lowered. The accuracy in the thermal expansion evaluation and the connection between third cumulant and thermal expansion are discussed.
