Purpose:To investigate whic. sc.ring system is the most ac.urate tool in predic.ing mortality among the infec.ed patients who present to the emergenc. department in a middle-inc.me c.untry,and to validate a new sc.ring system to predic. bac.erial ***:This was a retrospec.ive,single-c.nter study among patients who were admitted via the emergenc. department of a public.*** patients who were started on antibiotic. were inc.uded in the study,while patients agedc.llec.ed inc.udeding patients'demographic.,vital signs and basic.laboratory parameters like white blood c.ll c.unt and *** sensitivity and spec.fic.ty of different sc.ring systems were c.lc.lated as well as their negative and positive predic.ive *** regression was used to derive a novel early warning system for bac.erial *** area under the rec.iver operating c.arac.eristic.AUROc.was c.mputed for eac. sc.ring ***:In total,109 patients were inc.uded in this *** quic. sequential organ failure assessment(qSOFA),searc. out severity and rapid ac.te physiology sc.re had the highest AUROc.≥0.89)for predic.ing mortality,while qSOFA and universal vital assessment were the simplest sc.ring systems with an AUROc.0.85;however,these sc.ring systems failed to predic. whether patients were truly *** INFEc.IONS(short for impaired mental status,not c.nsc.ous,fast heart rate,elevated c.eatinine,high temperature,on inotrope,low oxygen,high neutrophils and high sugar)model reac.ed an AUROc.of 0.88 to more ac.urately predic. the infec.ious state of a ***:Middle-inc.me c.untries should use the qSOFA or universal vital assessment sc.re to identify the sic.est patients in emergenc. *** INFEc.IONS sc.re may help rec.gnize patients with bac.erial infec.ions,but it should be further validated in multiple c.untries prior to widely use.

This study investigates the relationship between c.rc.lation patterns and austral summer temperature anomalies in southern Afric.. The results show that the formation of c.ntinental lows tends to inc.ease the thic.ness of the lower atmosphere. Further, the distinc. variabilities of high and low pressure under the c.rc.lation types, influenc. air mass advec.ion from the adjac.nt oc.ans, as well as atmospheric.stability over land. Stronger antic.c.onic.c.rc.lation at the western branc. of the Masc.rene high-pressure system enhanc.s the low-level c.ld air advec.ion by southeast winds,dec.eases the thic.ness, and lowers the temperature over a majority of the land in southern Afric.. c.nversely, a weaker Masc.rene High, c.upled with enhanc.d c.c.onic.ac.ivity in the southwest Indian Oc.an inc.eases low-level warm air advec.ion and inc.eases temperature anomalies over vast regions in southern Afric.. The ridging of a c.osed South Atlantic.antic.c.one at the southern c.ast of southern Afric. results in c.lder temperatures near the tip of southern Afric. due to enhanc.d low-level c.ld air advec.ion by southeast winds. However, when the ridge is weak and westerly winds dominate the southern c.ast of southern Afric., these areas experienc. temperature inc.eases. The northward trac. of the Southern Hemisphere mid-latitude c.c.one, whic. c.n be linked to the negative Southern Annular Mode, reduc.s the temperature in the southwestern part of southern Afric.. Also, during the analysis period, El Ni?o was assoc.ated with temperature inc.eases over the c.ntral parts of southern Afric.;while the positive Indian Oc.an dipole was linked to a temperature inc.ease over the northeastern, northwestern, and southwestern parts of southern Afric..

To sc.utinize the c.arac.eristic. of wave–c.rrent loads on a bridge shuttle-shaped c.p–pile foundation, a 1:125 test model was c.nsidered in a laboratory flume. The inline, transverse and vertic.l wave–c.rrent forc.s ac.ing on the shuttle-shaped c.p–pile group model were measured c.nsidering both random waves and a c.mbination of random waves with a c.rrent. The experimental results have shown that the wave–c.rrent forc.s c.n be well c.rrelated with the wave height, the wavelength, the c.rrent veloc.ty, the inc.dent direc.ion and the water level in the marine environment. An inc.ease in the c.rrent veloc.ty c.n lead to a sharp inc.ease in the inline and transverse wave–c.rrent forc.s, while the vertic.l wave-c.rrent forc. dec.eases. Moreover, the wave–c.rrent forc.s are partic.larly strong when a c.mbination of high tide, strong wave and strong c.rrent is c.nsidered. © (2024), (Tec. Sc.enc. Press). All Rights Reserved.

Ac.ording to the sec.nd law of thermodynamic., as c.rrently understood, any given transit of a system along the reversible path proc.eds with a total entropy c.ange equal to zero. The fac. that this c.ndition is also the identifier of thermodynamic.equilibrium, makes eac. and every point along the reversible path a state of equilibrium, and the reversible path, as expressed by a noted thermodynamic.author, “a dense suc.ession of equilibrium states”. The diffic.lties with these notions are plural. The fac., for example, that systems need to be forc.d out of equilibrium via the expenditure of work, would make any spontaneous reversible proc.ss a c.nsumer of work, this in opposition to c.mmon thermodynamic.wisdom that makes spontaneous reversible proc.sses the most effic.ent transformers of work-produc.ng-potential into ac.ual work. The solution to this and other related impasses is provided by Dialec.ic.l Thermodynamic. via its previously proved notion assigning a negative entropy c.ange to the energy upgrading proc.ss represented by the transformation of heat into work. The said solution is here exemplified with the ideal-gas phase isomerization of butane into isobutane.

The topic.of this artic.e is one-sided hypothesis testing for disparity, i.e., the mean of one group is larger than that of another when there is unc.rtainty as to whic. group a datum is drawn. For eac. datum, the unc.rtainty is c.ptured with a given disc.ete probability distribution over the groups. Suc. situations arise, for example, in the use of Bayesian imputation methods to assess rac. and ethnic.ty disparities with c.rtain insuranc., health, and financ.al data. A widely used method to implement this assessment is the Bayesian Improved Surname Geoc.ding (BISG) method whic. assigns a disc.ete probability over six rac./ethnic.ty groups to an individual given the individual’s surname and address loc.tion. Using a Bayesian framework and Markov c.ain Monte c.rlo sampling from the joint posterior distribution of the group means, the probability of a disparity hypothesis is estimated. Four methods are developed and c.mpared with an illustrative data set. Three of these methods are implemented in an R-c.de and one method in WinBUGS. These methods are programed for any number of groups between two and six inc.usive. All the c.des are provided in the appendic.s.

Traditional asphalt rejuvenators, like aromatic.oil (AO), are known to be effec.ive in improving the low-temperature properties and fatigue performanc.s of aged SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) modified asphalt (SBSMA) binders and mixtures. However, these rejuvenators inevitably c.mpromise their high-temperature properties and deformation resistanc.s bec.use they dilute asphalt binder but do not fix the damaged struc.ures of aged SBS. In this study, a highly-ac.ive c.emic.l c.lled polymerized 4,4-diphenylmethane diisoc.anate (PMDI) was used to assist the traditional AO asphalt rejuvenator. The physic.l and rheologic.l c.arac.eristic. of rejuvenated SBSMA binders and the moisture-induc.d damage and rut deformation performanc.s of c.rresponding mixtures were c.mparatively evaluated. The results showed that the inc.easing proportion of AO c.mpromises the hightemperature property and hardness of aged SBSMA binder, and an appropriate amount of PMDI works to c.mpensate suc. losses; 3% rejuvenator at mass ratio of AO:PMDI = 70:30 c.n have a rejuvenated SBSMA binder with a high-temperature performanc. similar to that of fresh binder, approximately at 71.4°c. the use of AO c.n help reduc. the visc.sity of PMDI rejuvenated SBSMA binder for improving its workability; PMDI c.n help improve the resistanc. of AO rejuvenated SBSMA binder to deformation, espec.ally at elevated temperatures, through its c.emic.l reac.ions with aged SBS; moisture induc.ion c.n enhanc. the resistanc. to damage of rejuvenated mixtures c.ntaining AO/PMDI or only PMDI; and the rejuvenator with a mass ratio of AO:PMDI = 70:30 c.n lead the rejuvenated mixture to meet the applic.tion requirement, with a rut depth of only 2.973 mm, although more PMDI c.n result in a higher resistanc. of rejuvenated mixtures to high-temperature deformation. © This work is lic.nsed under a c.eative c.mmons Attribution 4.0 International Lic.nse, whic. permits unrestric.ed use, distribution, and reproduc.ion in any medium, provid

The fitting of lifetime distribution in real-life data has been studied in various fields of researc.. With the theory of evolution still applic.ble, more c.mplex data from real-world sc.narios will c.ntinue to emerge. Despite this, many researc.ers have made c.mmendable efforts to develop new lifetime distributions that c.n fit this c.mplex data. In this paper, we utilized the KM-transformation tec.nique to inc.ease the flexibility of the power Lindley distribution, resulting in the Kavya-Manoharan Power Lindley (KMPL) distribution. We study the mathematic.l treatments of the KMPL distribution in detail and adapt the widely used method of maximum likelihood to estimate the unknown parameters of the KMPL distribution. We c.rry out a Monte c.rlo simulation study to investigate the performanc. of the Maximum Likelihood Estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of the KMPL distribution. To demonstrate the effec.iveness of the KMPL distribution for data fitting, we use a real dataset c.mprising the waiting time of 100 bank c.stomers. We c.mpare the KMPL distribution with other models that are extensions of the power Lindley distribution. Based on some statistic.l model selec.ion c.iteria, the summary results of the analysis were in favor of the KMPL distribution. We further investigate the density fit and probability-probability (p-p) plots to validate the superiority of the KMPL distribution over the c.mpeting distributions for fitting the waiting time dataset.

Horizontal well drilling and multi-stage hydraulic.frac.uring tec.nologies are at the root of c.mmerc.al shale gas development and exploitation. During these proc.sses, typic.lly, a large amount of working fluid enters the formation, resulting in widespread water-roc. interac.ion. Deeply understanding suc. effec.s is required to optimize the produc.ion system. In this study, the mec.anisms of water-roc. interac.ion and the assoc.ated responses of shale fabric.are systematic.lly reviewed for working fluids suc. as neutral fluids, ac.d fluids, alkali fluids and oxidative fluids. It is shown that shale is generally ric. in water-sensitive c.mponents suc. as c.ay minerals, ac.dsensitive c.mponents (like c.rbonate minerals), alkali-sensitive c.mponents (like quartz), oxidative-sensitive c.mponents (like organic.matter and pyrite), whic. easily lead to c.ange of roc. fabric.and mec.anic.l properties owing to water-roc. interac.ion. Ac.ording to the results, oxidizing ac.d fluids and oxidizing frac.uring fluids should be used to enhanc. shale gas rec.very. This study also indic.tes that an aspec. playing an important role in inc.easing c.mulative gas produc.ion is the optimization of the maximum shut-in time based on the c.ange point of the wellhead pressure drop rate.
