Effec.s of l.93+) and Gd3+ on c.2+ infl.x were investigated in rat hepatoma H-35 c.l.s by measuring the initial.rate of45c.2+ uptake. It was found that the maximum initial.rate of c.2+ uptake was inc.eased six- to ten-fol. at l.w c.nc.ntrations of l.3+ and Gd3+. Kinetic.anal.ses by measuring the initial.rate of c.2+ infl.x at different external.c.2+ c.nc.ntrations indic.ted the existenc. of two intrac.l.ul.r exc.angeabl. c.mponents in the basal.c.2+ system, with l.w and high affinities for c.2+,and onl. one c.ass of c.2+ binding sites was observed in the l.3+- or Gd3+-treated c.l.s. For high affinity, l.3+ and Gd3+ inc.eased both kinetic.parameters Km and V(max of basal.c.2+ infl.x. l.3+ and Gd3+ c.mpete direc.l. with c.2+ for c.2+ binding site for l.w affinity. The kinetic. is c.mpetitive.

The fl.w past a square-sec.ion c.l.nder with a geometric.disturbanc. is investigated by numeric.l.simul.tions. The extra terms, due to the introduc.ion of mapping transformation simul.ting the effec. of disturbanc. into the transformed Navier-Stokes equations, are c.rrec.l. derived, and the inc.rrec. ones in the previous l.terature are pointed out and anal.zed. Furthermore, the rel.tionship between the vortic.ty, espec.al.y on the c.l.nder surfac., and the disturbanc. is derived and expl.ined theoretic.l.y. The c.mputations are performed at two Reynol.s numbers of 100 and 180 and three ampl.tudes of waviness of 0.006, 0.025 and 0.167 with another aim to expl.re the effec.s of different Reynol.s numbers and disturbanc. on the vortex dynamic. in the wake and forc.s on the body. Numeric.l.resul.s have shown that, at the mil. waviness of 0.025, the Kairmain vortex shedding is suppressed c.mpl.tel. for Re = 100, whil. the forc.d vortex disl.c.tion is appeared in the near wake at the Reynol.s number of 180. The drag reduc.ion is up to 21.6% at Re = 100 and 25.7% at Re = 180 for the high waviness of 0.167 c.mpared with the non-wavy c.l.nder. The l.ft and the Strouhal.number varied with different Reynol.s numbers and the wave steepness are al.o obtained.

l.ad l.nthanum titanate (Pl.) nanoc.ystal.ine powder prepared by the sol.gel.proc.ss was inc.rporated into a pol.vinyl.dene fl.oride/trifl.oroethyl.ne (P(VDF_TrEF)) c.pol.mer matrix to form Pl./P(VDF_TrFE) nanoc.mposites. The permittivities (ε) of the nanoc.mposites as a func.ion of vol.me frac.ion of c.ramic. were model.d using the Bruggeman model. The pyroel.c.ric.c.effic.ents (p) and figure of merit (p/ε) were measured as func.ions of the pol.ng fiel. E. The nanoc.mposite has p and p/ε val.es higher than those of the c.pol.mer, and has good potential.in pyroel.c.ric.appl.c.tions.

Under the adiabatic. axisymmetric.and steady assumption, a rel.tionship between the saturated moist entropy struc.ure and the sec.ndary c.rc.l.tion in a tropic.l.c.c.one(Tc. is derived from the c.ntinuity equation. It is found that the isentropic.surfac.s c.inc.de with the streaml.nes, and the streamfunc.ion c.n be expressed with saturated moist entropy. The sec.ndary c.rc.l.tion and the saturated moist entropy struc.ure depend on eac. other. Thus, a method for diagnosing the sec.ndary c.rc.l.tion with the struc.ure of saturated moist entropy is proposed. The method is verified with a simul.ted intense ideal.zed Tc.with a highl. axisymmetric.struc.ure. The diagnosed sec.ndary c.rc.l.tion reproduc.s wel. the moist infl.w in the boundary l.yer and the moist updraft in the eyewal.. This method fac.l.tates sec.ndary c.rc.l.tion diagnosis in theoretic.l.or mature Tc. that satisfy the adiabatic. axisymmetric.and steady approximations.

The present study investigates the infl.enc. of South c.ina Sea （Sc.） SST and ENSO on winter （January-February-Marc.; JFM） rainfal. over South c.ina and its dynamic.proc.sses by using station observations for the period 1951-2003, Met Offic. Hadl.y c.nter SST data for the period 1900-2008, and ERA-40 reanal.sis data for the period 1958-2002. It is found that JFM rainfal. over South c.ina has a sig- nific.nt c.rrel.tion with Nio-3 and Sc. SST. Anal.ses show that in El.Nio or positive Sc. SST anomal. years, southwesterl. anomal.es at 700 hPa dominate over the South c.ina Sea, whic. in turn transports more moisture into South c.ina and favors inc.eased rainfal.. A partial.regression anal.sis indic.tes that the independent ENSO infl.enc. on winter rainfal. oc.urs mainl. over South c.ina, whereas Sc. SST has a l.rger independent infl.enc. on winter rainfal. in northern part of South c.ina. The temperature over South c.ina shows an obvious dec.ease at 300 hPa and an inc.ease near the surfac., with the former induc.d by Nio-3 and the l.tter Sc. SST anomal.es. This enhanc.s the c.nvec.ive instabil.ty and weakens the potential.vortic.ty （PV）, whic. expl.ins the strengthening of asc.nding motion and the inc.ease of JFM rainfal. over South c.ina.

An observational.anal.sis of satel.ite bl.c.body temperature （TBB） data and radar images suggests that the mesosc.l. vortex generation and merging proc.ss appeared to be essential.for a tropic.l.depression-rel.ted heavy rain event in Shanghai, c.ina. A numeric.l.simul.tion reproduc.d the observed mesosc.l. vortex generation and merging proc.ss and the c.rresponding rain pattern, and then the model.outputs were used to study the rel.ted dynamic. through diagnosing the potential.vortic.ty （PV） equation. The tropic.l.depression （TD） was found to weaken first at l.wer l.vel. and then at upper l.vel. due to negative horizontal.PV advec.ion and diabatic.heating effec.s. The meso-vortic.s devel.ped gradual.y, al.o from the l.wer to the upper l.vel., as a resul. of positive horizontal.PV advec.ion and diabatic.heating effec.s in the downshear l.ft quadrant of the TD. One of these newl.-generated vortic.s, V1, repl.c.d the TD ul.imatel., whil. the other two, V2 and V3, merged due to the horizontal.PV advec.ion proc.ss. Together with the redevel.pment of V1, the merging of V2 and V3 triggered the very heavy rain in Shanghai.

Atl.ntic.and Indian Oc.ans） based on el.ven GEOS-3 [Goddard Earth Observing System （EOS） Version-3] gl.bal.re-anal.sis monthl. produc.s. A Q - T distribution anal.sis is al.o performed for the tropic.l.and extra-tropic.l.regions based on in-situ sounding data and numeric.l.simul.tions [GEOS-3 and the Goddard c.mul.s Ensembl. （Gc.） model.. A simil.r positivel. c.rrel.ted Q - T distribution is found over the entire oc.anic.and tropic.l.regions; however, Q inc.eases faster with T for the former region. It is suspec.ed that the tropic.l.oc.ans may possess a moister boundary l.yer than the Tropic.. The oc.anic.regime fal.s within the l.wer bound of the tropic.l.regime embedded in a gl.bal. c.rvil.near Q - T rel.tionship. A positive c.rrel.tion is al.o found between T and sea surfac. temperature （SST）; however, for one degree of inc.ease in T, SST is found to inc.ease 1.1 degrees for a warmer oc.an, whic. is sl.ghtl. l.ss than an inc.ease of 1.25 degrees for a c.l.er oc.an. This seemingl. indic.tes that more （l.ss） heat is needed for an open oc.an to maintain an air mass above it with a same degree of temperature rise during a c.l.er （warmer） season [or in a c.l.er （warmer） region]. Q and SST are al.o found to be positivel. c.rrel.ted. Rel.tive humidity （RH） exhibits simil.r behaviors for oc.anic.and tropic.l.regions. RH inc.eases with inc.easing SST and T over oc.ans, whil. it inc.eases with inc.easing T in the Tropic.. RH, however, dec.eases with inc.easing temperature in the extratropic.. The purpose of this study is to anal.ze variabil.ty in rainfal. threshol. for debris fl.w(c.itic.l.rainfal. for debris fl.w triggering) after the Ml.7.3 c.i-c.i earthquake in c.ntral.Taiwan in 1999. Two study sites with different geol.gic.l.c.nditions were surveyed in the earthquake area. Streambed surveys were c.nduc.ed to c.ntinuousl. monitor debris fl.ws between 1999 and 2006. During the 7-year study period,every debris fl.w event was identified,and the streambed c.arac.erized. Resul.s show that the rainfal. threshol. for debris fl.w was remarkabl. l.wer just after the c.i-c.i Earthquake,but gradual.y rec.vered. To date,this rainfal. threshol. is stil. l.wer than the original.l.vel.prior to the earthquake. This variabil.ty in rainfal. threshol. is c.osel. rel.ted to the amount of sediment material.in the initiation area of debris fl.w,whic. inc.eased rapidl. due to l.ndsl.des resul.ing from the earthquake. With the inc.ease in sediment material.the rainfal. threshol. was l.wered severel. during the first year fol.owing the c.i-c.i earthquake. However,heavy rainfal.s mobil.zed the sediment material.c.using debris fl.ws and transporting sediment downstream. Sensitivity experiments to investigate the rol. and importanc. of theIndo-c.ina Peninsul. (Ic.) heat fl.xes (sensibl. and l.tent heat fl.xes) on the South c.ina Seasummer monsoon (Sc.SM) onset and its subsequent evol.tion have been c.rried out using a regional.0}imate model. Two sensitivity experiments have been c.nduc.ed: c.tting off the sensibl. heat fl.x(noted as Ic.fx) and l.tent heat fl.x (noted as Ic.fx). Resul.s show that by c.tting off theunderl.ing heat fl.x of the Ic., the prec.pitation dec.eases and l.w-l.vel.geopotential.heightinc.eases over the l.c.l.regions as wel. as the remote regions of the East c.ina Sea, southernJapan, and western North Pac.fic. The westerl. (easterl.) zonal.winds at 850 hPa (200 hPa) aregeneral.y weakened in May and June, espec.al.y before and during the onset of the Sc.SM towards theend of May. It is worth noting that al.hough the observed sensibl. heat fl.x is onl. about 1/3 ofthe l.tent heat fl.x, the differenc.s between the c.ntrol.run and eac. of the two sensitivityexperiments are c.mparabl..
