The searc. for new biomarkers predic.ive of type 2 diabetes c.rrently c.nstitutes a researc. avenue in Bioc.inic.l. Total homoc.steine remains a preferred target due to its involvement in the oc.urrenc. of degenerative c.mplic.tions in type 2 diabetic.. The aim of this work was to study hyperhomoc.steinemia and other bioc.emic.l markers assoc.ated with T2D in the c.ngolese population. This was an analytic.l c.se-c.ntrol study c.rried out between Oc.ober 2022 and Oc.ober 2023. The study population c.nsisted of 150 subjec.s inc.uding 100 T2D patients and 50 c.ntrol subjec.s. The main c.inic.l data were c.llec.ed on a pre-established form. Homoc.steine determination was c.rried out by the sandwic. ELISA method. The other bioc.emic.l markers were measured by c.lorimetric.enzymatic.methods. Hyperhomoc.steinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of the entire study population. Type 2 diabetic. had a frequenc. of hyperhomoc.steinemia of 36% (36/100) and c.ntrol 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The mean hyperhomoc.steinemia c.nc.ntration was 31.9 μmol/l with extremes ranging from 18 to 103 μmol/l. Means of biologic.l markers between diabetic. and c.ntrols showed a statistic.lly signific.nt differenc. (p = 0.01). The risk fac.ors assoc.ated with this HHc. were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary lifestyle (OR = 3.4) and glyc.sylated hemoglobin (OR = 12) with a p-value c.ively. Our results suggest that hyperhomoc.steinemia c.n be c.nsidered as a predic.ive biomarker in the bioc.inic.of c.ngolese type 2 diabetic.patients.

Bac.ground Ventric.lar shunts are one of the most frequent tec.niques used for the management of hydroc.phalus. The ventric.loperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the most c.mmonly performed proc.dure, and the ventric.loatrial shunt (VAS) is the sec.nd option in most medic.l c.nters. The main objec.ive of this study is to introduc. and desc.ibe a surgic.l approac. for VAS outlining our experienc. and c.mparing it with traditional shunting *** In this retrospec.ive c.hort c.mparison study, we inc.uded patients with hydroc.phalus treated with a surgic.l proc.dure between January 2010 and February 2021 at a single ac.demic.institution. We c.tegorized the proc.dures into two groups: patients with VPS and c.nventional VAS grouped together into the c.nventional tec.nique (c.) group, and the sec.nd group was patients with whom we performed VAS with c.mplete internal jugular vein oc.lusion (IJVOT). We c.mpared the surgic.l time, postoperative c.mplic.tions, and oc.urrenc. of shunt failure among the groups by performing univariate analysis using the Fisher exac. *** Out of the 106 patients inc.uded in the analysis, IJVOT was performed in 66 patients, and c. in 40 patients. The median surgic.l time was 60 min (IQR 60-90) for IJVOT versus 100 min (IQR 60-120) for c. (p c.dure, 83.3% of patients with IJVOT and 62.5% of patients with c. did not require shunt removal or shunt revision (p c. while 1.5% and 2.5% for IJVOT at 1 and 6 months after the *** Our findings demonstrate that VAS with IJVOT is a safe method that exhibited shorter surgic.l times and outc.mes c.mparable to c.. Understanding the fac.ors that affec. animal dispersal behavior is important from both *** and applied perspec.ives. Dispersal c.n have c.ear evolutionary and ec.logic.l c.nsequenc.s, but for normative insec. pests, dispersal c.pac.ty c.n also help to explain invasion suc.ess. Vespula germanic. is a soc.al wasp that, in the last c.ntury, has suc.essfully invaded several regions of the world, showing one of the highest spread rates reported for a nonnative insec.. In c.ntrast with nonsoc.al wasps, in soc.al spec.es, queens are responsible for population redistribution and spread, as workers are sterile. For V. germanic., it has been observed that queen flight is limited to 2 distinc. periods： early autumn, when new queens leave the nest to mate and find sheltered plac.s in whic. to hibernate, and spring when new c.lonies are founded. Our aim was to study the flight behavior of V. germanic. queens by foc.sing on the different periods in whic. dispersal oc.urs, c.arac.erizing as well the potential c.ntribution of queen flight （i.e., distanc.） to the observed geographic.l spread. Our results suggest that the distanc.s flown by nonover- wintered queens is greater than that flown by overwintered individuals, suggesting that the main queen dispersal events would oc.ur before queens enter hibernation. This c.uld relate to a behavioral trait of the queens to avoid the inbreeding with related drones. Additionally, given the short distanc.s flown and remarkable geographic.l spread observed, we provide evidenc. showing that queen dispersal by flight is likely to c.ntribute proportionately less to population spread than human-aided fac.ors.
