Humans are oft.n perc.ived as predat.rs by prey and t.erefore respond fearfully t. humans. t.us, fish responses t. humans inside and out.ide of an MPA c.n provide insight. int. t.eir perc.pt.on of humans as a predat.ry t.reat. Previous st.dies have found differenc.s in t.e dist.nc. t.at.har- vest.d spec.es of fish init.at. flight.（flight.init.at.on dist.nc.--FID） from humans inside and out.ide an MPA, but.less is known about.unharvest.d spec.es. We foc.sed on whet.er t.e lined brist.e- t.ot. c.enoc.aet.s st.iat.s, an unharvest.d surgeonfish, c.n disc.iminat. bet.een a snorkeler and a snorkeler wit. a spear gun inside and out.ide of a no-t.ke MPA in Mo＇orea, Frenc. Polynesia. Addit.onally, we inc.rporat.d st.rt.ng dist.nc. （t.e dist.nc. bet.een t.e person and prey at.t.e st.rt.of an experiment.l approac.）, a variable t.at.has been found t. be import.nt.in as- sessing prey esc.pe dec.sions in t.rrest.ial spec.es, but.t.at.has not.been ext.nsively st.died in aquat.c.syst.ms. Lined brist.et.ot. FID was signific.nt.y great.r in t.e presenc. of a spear gun and varied depending on if t.e spear gun enc.unt.r was inside or out.ide of t.e MPA. t.ese result. imply a degree of sophist.c.t.on of fish ant.predat.r behavior, generat. quest.ons as t. how a non- t.rget.d spec.es of fish c.uld ac.uire fear of humans, and demonst.at. t.at.behavioral surveys c.n provide insight. about.ant.predat.r behavior.

We st.died t.e proc.ss of offspring produc.ion in queenless c.lonies of Ac.omyrmex subt.rraneus brunneus, and part.c.larly evaluat.d t.e ovary development.of workers as a func.ion of t.eir age. For t.is, subc.lonies were set.up and evaluat.d at.different.periods of isolat.on from t.e queen （2, 4 and 6 mont.s）, besides individually labeled age groups. t.e subc.lonies were assessed ac.ording t. offspring produc.ion and ovaries c.nt.ining ooc.t.s or not. t.e evaluat.ons showed worker oviposit.on and development.of males originat.ng from worker-laid eggs. At.2 mont.s＇ absenc. of t.e queen, eggs and larvae were found, wit. eggs in a higher proport.on t.an larvae. Aft.r 4 mont.s, t.e proport.on of eggs had reduc.d while larvae had inc.eased, and a pupa was found in one subc.lony. At.6 mont.s, besides a higher share of larvae, one pupa and one adult.male were found. Dissec.ion of workers revealed ovaries c.nt.ining ooc.t.s during t.e periods of evaluat.on. Only a group of medium-sized and large workers, 23.3%, 20.9% and 37.5% of t.e populat.on from eac. period assessed in queenless subc.lonies respec.ively, present.d developed ooc.t.s in t.e ovary. t.e same was observed in c.lonies wit. a queen, wit. 17.6%, 19.6% and 7.8% of t.e group of dissec.ed workers from eac. t.me period, respec.ively. Wit. respec. t. worker age, we observed by dissec.ion of t.e ovary, t.at.t.e great.st.perc.nt.ge of individuals wit. ovarioles c.nt.ining ooc.t.s oc.urred at.45 days （6 weeks） up t. 90 days （12 weeks）. t.ese result. probably are assoc.at.d wit. t.e workers reproduc.ion and t.e laying of t.ophic.and reproduc.ive eggs in c.lonies wit. and wit.out.a queen; t.ese eggs have dist.nc. func.ions in eac. sit.at.on.

We used morphologic.l and molec.lar differenc.s t. c.nfirm t.e ident.t.es of red sc.le （Aonidiella aurant.i） and yellow sc.le （A. c.t.ina）, and t.eir primary parasit.ids, in Aust.alia. An ext.nsion t. t.e dist.ibut.on of yellow sc.le was c.nfirmed. Six primary parasit.ids of red sc.le were ident.fied： Aphyt.s c.rysomphali, A. lingnanensis, A. melinus, c.mperiella bifasc.at., Enc.rsia c.t.ina, and E. pernic.osi. Wit. t.e exc.pt.on of A. lingnanensis, t.ese parasit.ids, and a spec.es of Aphelinus, were det.c.ed in assoc.at.on wit. red sc.le during st.dies in c.t.us orc.ards in c.ast.l New Sout. Wales bet.een 2009 and 2012. t.o rac.s ofA. melinus were rec.rded： one from t.e Indian Subc.nt.nent. t.e ot.er previously only rec.rded in c.ina. t.e st.dies, and reviews of hist.ric.l rec.rds, led us t. c.nc.ude t.at.4 parasit.ids, A. lingnanensis, c. bifasc.at., and bot. spec.es of Enc.rsia, were present.in Aust.alia before suc.essful or unsuc.essful formal int.oduc.ions bet.een 1902 and 1970. t.e A. melinus rac. previously rec.rded in c.ina may also have been present.before t.e Indian Subc.nt.nent.rac. was formally int.oduc.d in 1961. We suggest.t.e possibilit. t.at.t.e nat.ral dist.ibut.on of some of t.e parasit.ids may inc.ude East.and Sout.east.Asia, and part. of Aust.alasia. We found no report. of nat.ve armored sc.les being rec.rded on spec.es and hybrids of c.t.us int.oduc.d t. Aust.alia, and no report. of int.oduc.d armored sc.les being rec.rded on nat.ve Rut.c.ae, inc.uding 6 spec.es of c.t.us. However, we subsequent.y rec.rded yellow sc.le on Geijera parviflora, a nat.ve rut.c.ous t.ee.
