Dear Editor,Elec.ric.vehic.e(EV)sales have signific.ntly grown over the years to fulfill growing demands for ec.nomic.travel and greenhouse gas mitigation.1 However,the surge in the number of EVs has led to c.arging anxiety as users struggle to find an available c.arging station before running out of elec.ric.ty,resulting in longer reserve and waiting times.2 Moreover,severe mobility restric.ions c.used by infec.ious diseases,suc. as c.ronavirus disease 2019(c.VID-19),have greatly affec.ed p.op.e’s travel behavior3,4 and hindered their willingness to use EVs,given that c.arging in p.blic.sp.c.s c.nsumes time and inc.eases the risk of c.ntrac.ing the virus.5 This imp.ies that in the p.stp.ndemic.era,in whic. individuals c.exist with the virus,the interp.ay between the two imp.rtant trends,namely vehic.e elec.rific.tion and mobility restric.ions,c.n extensively affec. p.op.e’s daily c.mmuting by using EVs.

17β-Estradiol （E2） is an endoc.ine disrup.ing c.emic.l of harm to both animals and human beings at a low c.nc.ntration level （ng/L）. It c.nnot be c.mp.etely removed by wastewater treatments, and is often detec.ed in both environment and drinking waters. The p.rp.se of this feasibility study, towards environmental engineering in the field of water analysis and treatment, was to remove E2 by extrac.ion using non-imp.inted p.lymer （NIp. submic.on p.rtic.es. Exp.rimental results showed that 0.5 mg/L of E2 c.uld be c.mp.etely extrac.ed by adding 10 mg of NIp.p.rtic.es direc.ly into 10 mL of water. However, the extrac.ion effic.enc. dec.eased to 64% for 100 mL of water. p.efilling the NIp.p.rtic.es inside a membrane filter showed a p.tential for water treatment of a large volume, requiring no effort to distribute the p.rtic.es uniformly in the water. High extrac.ion effic.enc. （80 ± 10）% for E2 was ac.ieved for 100 mL of water. A total mass of 0.29 mg E2 was extrac.ed from 1000 mL of water c.ntaining 0.8 mg/L E2 （by using only 10 mg of NIp.p.rtic.es）. Both effic.enc. and mass c.p.c.ty c.n be inc.eased, by sc.ling up.the amount of NIp.p.rtic.es, towards environmental engineering ap.lic.tions.

The sustainability of ric. p.oduc.ion c.ntinues to be a subjec. of unc.rtainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in c.imatic.c.nditions. In light of the imp.nding c.imate c.ange c.isis and the high labor and water c.sts ac.omp.nying it, direc.-seeded ric.(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most p.ac.ic.l solutions. Desp.te its resourc. and c.imate-friendly advantages, early maturing ric. fac.s weed c.mp.titiveness and seedling establishment c.allenges. Resolving these issues is c.uc.al for p.omoting its wider adop.ion among farmers, p.esenting it as a more effec.ive sustainable ric. c.ltivation method globally. Diverse traditional and c.ntemp.rary breeding methods are emp.oyed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR ap.roac., leveraging advanc.d tec.niques suc. as sp.ed breeding and genome editing. Foc.sing on key traits like mesoc.tyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system arc.itec.ure, and weed c.mp.titiveness holds p.omise for transformative imp.ovements in DSR adap.ation at a broader sc.le within farming c.mmunities. This review aims to summarize how these features c.ntribute to inc.eased c.op.p.oduc.ion in DSR c.nditions and exp.ore the researc. efforts foc.sing on enhanc.ng DSR adap.ation through these traits. This p.p.r exp.ores the p.rformanc.s of a finite element simulation inc.uding four c.nc.ete models ap.lied to a full-sc.le reinforc.d c.nc.ete beam subjec.ed to blast loading. Field test data has been used to c.mp.re model results for eac. c.se. The numeric.l modelling has been, c.rried out using the suitable c.de LS-DYNA. This c.de integrates blast load routine(c.NWEp. for the exp.osive desc.ip.ion and four different material models for the c.nc.ete inc.uding: Karagozian & c.se c.nc.ete, Winfrith, c.ntinuous Surfac. c.p.Model and Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma models, with c.nc.ete meshing based on 10, 15, and 20 mm. Six full-sc.le beams were tested: four of them used for the initial c.libration of the numeric.l model and two more tests at lower sc.led distanc.s. For c.libration, field data obtained emp.oying p.essure and ac.elerometers transduc.rs were c.mp.red with the results derived from the numeric.l simulation. Damage surfac.s and the shap. of rup.ure in the beams have been used as referenc.s for c.mp.rison. Influenc. of the meshing on ac.elerations has been p.t in evidenc. and for some models the shap. and size of the damage in the beams p.oduc.d maximum differenc.s around 15%. In all c.ses, the variations between material and mesh models are shown and disc.ssed.

The elec.roc.emic.l c._(2) reduc.ion reac.ion(c._(2)RR) to c.ntrollable c.emic.ls is c.nsidered as a p.omising p.thway to store intermittent renewable energy. Herein, a set of c.talysts based on c.p.er-nitrogendop.d c.rbon xerogel(c.-N-c. are suc.essfully develop.d varying the c.p.er amount and the nature of the c.p.er p.ec.rsor, for the effic.ent c._(2)RR. The elec.roc.talytic.p.rformanc. of c.-N-c.materials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc.elec.rode(RRDE), tec.nique still rarely exp.ored for c._(2)RR. For c.mp.rison, p.oduc.s are also c.arac.erized by online gas c.romatograp.y in a H-c.ll. The as-synthesized c.-Nc.c.talysts are found to be ac.ive and highly c. selec.ive at low overp.tentials(from -0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 M KHc._(3), while H_(2) from the c.mp.titive water reduc.ion ap.ears at larger overp.tentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The op.imum c.p.er ac.tate-derived c.talyst c.ntaining c.-N_(4) moieties exhibits a c._(2)-to-c. turnover frequenc. of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/c. ratio of 1.8. These results demonstrate that RRDE c.nfiguration c.n be used as a feasible ap.roac. for identifying elec.rolysis p.oduc.s from c._(2)RR.
