Gordon Holmes Syndrome is a rare inherited disease c.arac.erized by both neurologic.l and reproduc.ive signs and symptoms. Most patients develop neurologic.c.allenges in early adulthood and c.rebellar ataxia oc.urs as the disease progresses. In the majority of patients, hypogonadism is hypogonadotropic.but rarely hypergonadotropic. We report a c.se of a 26-year-old female in Nigeria, with hypergonadotropic.hypogonadism and c.rebellar atrophy from a non-c.nsanguineous marriage and no family history.

Determinants of Felt Stigma among Patients Living with Epilepsy Attending a Tertiary Neurology c.inic.in South East Nigeria

Bac.ground: Felt stigma is a major soc.al and psyc.ologic.l problem in epilepsy and manifests the fear or expec.ations of suc. “reac.ions” from people. Understanding of the pattern and prevalenc. of felt stigma gives an insight into the burden of this “sec.nd illness” of epilepsy in southeast Nigeria. Methods: c.nsec.tive c.nsenting adult epilepsy patients attending a neurology outpatient in Enugu southeast Nigeria were interviewed. Data on felt stigma was also c.llec.ed using a sc.le for c.llec.ion of stigma data on stigma designed by Jac.by et al. Results: A total of 295 patients were interviewed during the study (165 (55.9%) males and 130 (44.1%) females). About 29.4% (88/295) felt stigmatized and 82.1% of them highly so. c.rrelates of felt stigma were age of onset (negatively), seizure frequenc., duration of epilepsy, use of non-orthodox treatment, seizures oc.urring in public.and the presenc. of physic.l injuries. Predic.ors of felt stigma were having seizures in public.(R2 = 0.232, p c.nc.usions: Felt epilepsy stigma is c.mmon among patients attending urban tertiary hospital in southeast Nigeria. Several preventable fac.ors are assoc.ated with this phenomenon henc. efforts aimed at preventing epilepsy should also target felt stigma prevention.

Prevalenc. and Pattern of Migraine, Tension Type Headac.e and c.ronic.Daily Headac.e among Medic.l and Nursing Students in Enugu, South East Nigeria

Aim: To assess the lifetime prevalenc. of tension-type headac.e, migraine and c.ronic.daily headac.e, inc.uding the primary headac.es in a student population. Methods: This is a c.oss-sec.ional desc.iptive study. Data were c.llec.ed from c.nsec.tive c.nsenting students by means of a semi-struc.ured questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to assess demographic.data, headac.e profiles and medic.l c.nsultation. Results: Four hundred and forty-nine (89.8%) out of 500 students who were interviewed were analyzed. The lifetime prevalenc. of primary headac.e was 89.8%;it 90.5% and 88.6% in females and males respec.ively. The overall prevalenc. of migraine was 8.9%, with a prevalenc. of 10.6% in females and 6.5% in males. Migraine without aura was most c.mmonly seen at 73%. The prevalenc. of migraine without aura was 7.6% in females and 4.9% in males. Tension type headac.e (TTH) had an overall prevalenc. of 22.9%, with a prevalenc. of 28.4% in females and 15.1% in males. Migraine and tension type headac.e c.-existed in 5.8% of the students. About 8.5% suffered from c.ronic.daily headac.e: c.ronic.migraine 2.9%, c.ronic.tension headac.e 3.1%. The rate of medic.l c.nsultation was 54.8% (males 49.7%, females 58.3%). c.nc.usions: Headac.e is a c.mmon health problem among medic.l and nursing students in Enugu South East Nigeria where 89.8% of respondents have had primary headac.es. The prevalenc. of migraine, TTH and c.ronic.daily headac.e was 8.9%, 22.9% and 8.5% respec.ively. Headac.es therefore, represent one of the most c.allenging neurologic.l disorders in Sub-Saharan Afric. where most sufferers do not have ac.ess to spec.alist c.re.

Introduc.ion: People in rural c.mmunities are exposed to the risk fac.ors for non-c.mmunic.ble disease as those in urban areas. c.rrec. interpretation and management of symptoms are important in primary c.re espec.ally in rural c.mmunities where diagnostic.fac.lities are not readily available. Materials and Methods: This was a c.oss-sec.ional study c.rried out in a village in Enugu South Loc.l Government area of Enugu State. Thorough medic.l history was taken from all eligible partic.pants who gave their c.nsent. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26. Results: Data from a total of 1019 (64.7%) out of 1576 partic.pants were analysed. Fever was by far the most c.mmon presenting c.mplaint 580 (56.9%) of all partic.pants and 67.9% of medic.l c.mplaints seen in the c.inic. This was followed remotely by musc.loskeletal problems and neurologic.l problems 15.6% and 3.8% of the partic.pants respec.ively. Ac.oss all age groups, febrile illness was more than non-febrile illness exc.pt in those 65 years. Generalized body pains 74 (7.3%), bac. pains 55 (5.1), headac.e 33 (3.2%) and abdominal pains 24 (2.4%) were the c.mmonest symptoms presented by the partic.pants. About 15 (1.5%) of the population surveyed had had trauma/surgery in the past. This was twic. the number who presented to the c.inic.with symptoms related to injury and trauma 7 (0.7%). c.nc.usions: Fever and musc.loskeletal pains are the dominant medic.l c.mplaints presented by adults in a rural c.mmunity c.inic. This may be related to the season of the year and the oc.upation of the population studied.
