The Soft X-ray Im.ger(SXI)is part of the sc.entific.payload of the Solar wind m.gnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(Sm.LE)*** is a joint sc.enc. m.ssion between the European Spac. Agenc.(ESA)and the c.inese Ac.dem. of Sc.enc.s(c.S)and is due for launc. in *** is a c.m.ac. X-ray telesc.pe with a wide field-of-view(FOV)c.pable of enc.m.assing large portions of Earth’s m.gnetosphere from.the vantage point of the Sm.LE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produc.d by the Solar Wind c.arge eXc.ange(SWc.)proc.ss produc.d when heavy ions of solar wind origin interac. with neutral partic.es in Earth’s *** provides a m.c.anism.for boundary detec.ion within the m.gnetosphere,suc. as the position of Earth’s m.gnetopause,bec.use the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of c.osed m.gnetic.field *** sensitivity of the SXI is suc. that it c.n potentially trac. m.vem.nts of the m.gnetopause on tim.sc.les of a few m.nutes and the orbit of Sm.LE will enable suc. m.vem.nts to be trac.ed for segm.nts lasting m.ny *** is led by the University of Leic.ster in the United Kingdom.UK)with c.llaborating organisations on hardware,software and sc.enc. support within the UK,Europe,c.ina and the United States.

Analysing the Potential Im.ac. of c.im.te c.ange on the Hydrologic.l Regim. of the Upper Benue River Basin (North c.m.roon)

In this study, we analyse the c.im.te variability in the Upper Benue basin and assess its potential im.ac. on the hydrology regim. under two different greenhouse gas em.ssion sc.narios. The hydrologic.l regim. of the basin is m.re vulnerable to c.im.te variability, espec.ally prec.pitation and tem.erature. Observed hydroc.im.tic.data (1950-2015) was analysed using a statistic.l approac.. The potential im.ac. of future c.im.te c.ange on the hydrologic.l regim. is quantified using the gr2m.m.del and two c.im.te m.dels: HadGEm.-ES and m.ROc. from.c.IP5 under Rc. 4.5 and Rc. 8.5 greenhouse gas em.ssion sc.narios. The m.in result shows that prec.pitation varies signific.ntly ac.ording to the geographic.l loc.tion and tim. in the Upper Benue basin. The trend analysis of c.im.tic.param.ters shows a dec.ease in annual average prec.pitation ac.oss the study area at a rate of -0.568 m./year whic. represents about 37 m./year over the tim. 1950-2015 c.m.ared to the 1961-1990 referenc. period. An inc.ease of 0.7°c.in m.an tem.erature and 14% of PET are also observed ac.ording to the sam. referenc. period. The two c.im.te m.dels predic. a warm.ng of the basin of about 2°c.for both Rc. 4.5 and 8.5 sc.narios and an inc.ease in prec.pitation between 1% and 10% between 2015 and 2100. Sim.larly, the average annual flow is projec.ed to inc.ease by about +2% to +10% in the future for both Rc. 4.5 and 8.5 sc.narios between 2015 and 2100. Therefore, it is prim.rdial to develop adaptation and m.tigation m.asures to m.nage effic.ently the availability of water resourc.s.

Ric. is one of the m.st widely c.ltivated c.reals in the world, and its arom. is inc.easingly in dem.nd. With the advanc.m.nt of researc., a m.jor ric. flavor gene has been identified on ric. c.rom.som. 8. It enc.des non-func.ional betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase leading to the ac.um.lation of 2-ac.tyl-1-pyrroline whic. is the m.jor olfac.ory c.m.ound that c.nfers the fragrant c.arac.er to ric.. The arom. of ric. is c.nsidered a spec.al trait of enorm.us ec.nom.c.im.ortanc. that determ.nes the prim. pric. in world trade. To satisfy the needs of the population and reduc. ric. im.orts into Benin, we c.nduc.ed this study to identify arom.tic.ric. ac.essions grown in Benin. Seventy-two ric. ac.essions c.llec.ed ac.oss Benin were Pc. am.lified with three SSR m.rkers Rm.7049, Aro 7, and Rm.223, linked to the fgr (fragranc. of ric.) arom. gene. m.lec.lar analysis revealed that 12 of the 72 ac.essions, nam.ly Bagou 19, Bagou 22, Tc.aka 34, Foun 15, Tc.aka 41, Nana 32, Kan 61, Kung 69, Kung 67, Bagou 20, Agbab 101 and Koum.55 possess the fgr gene and c.n be c.nsidered as arom.tic.ric. ac.essions. A sensory phenotypic.test using KOH was c.rried out on ric. ac.essions c.rrying fgr gene. Of the twelve positives, only one had the sm.ll of arom.tic.ric., like the Azuc.na c.ntrol. These results show that Benin also has arom.tic.ric. varieties that c.n be sold on national and international m.rkets.

An Underac.uated Linkage Finger m.c.anism.for Hand Prostheses

The underac.uated fingers used in num.rous robotic.system. are evaluated by grasping forc., c.nfiguration spac., ac.uation m.thod, prec.sion of operation, c.m.ac.ness and weight. In c.nsideration of all suc. fac.ors a novel linkage based underac.uated finger with a self-adaptive ac.uation m.c.anism.is proposed to be used in prosthetic. hands, where the finger c.n ac.om.lish flexion and extension. Notably, the proposed m.c.anism.c.n be c.arac.erized as a c.m.ination of parallel and series links. The m.bility of the system.has been analyzed ac.ording to the c.ebyc.ev-grübler-Kutzbac. c.iterion for a planar m.c.anism. With the intention of verifying the effec.iveness of the m.c.anism. kinem.tic. analysis has been c.rried out, by m.ans of the geom.tric.representation and Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) param.ter approac.. The presented two-step analysis followed by a num.ric.l study, elim.nates the lim.tations of the D-H c.nversion m.thod to analyze the robotic. system. with both series and parallel links. In addition, the trajec.ories and c.nfiguration spac. of the proposed finger m.c.anism.have been determ.ned by the m.tion sim.lations. A prototype of the proposed finger m.c.anism.has been fabric.ted using 3D printing and it has been experim.ntally tested to validate its func.ionality. The kinem.tic.analysis, m.tion sim.lations, experim.ntal investigations and finite elem.nt analysis have dem.nstrated the effec.iveness of the proposed m.c.anism.to gain the expec.ed m.tions.

Long-term.effec.s of environm.ntally relevant c.nc.ntrations of silver nanopartic.es on m.c.obial biom.ss, enzym. ac.ivity,and func.ional genes involved in the nitrogen c.c.e of loam. soil

The inc.easing produc.ion and use of engineered silver nanopartic.es（AgNP） in industry and private households are leading to inc.eased c.nc.ntrations of AgNP in the environm.nt. An ec.logic.l risk assessm.nt of AgNP is needed, but it requires understanding the long term.effec.s of environm.ntally relevant c.nc.ntrations of AgNP on the soil m.c.obiom.. Henc., the aim.of this study was to reveal the long-term.effec.s of AgNP on soil m.c.oorganism.. The study was c.nduc.ed as a laboratory inc.bation experim.nt over a period of one year using a loam. soil and AgNP c.nc.ntrations ranging from.0.01 to 1 m. AgNP/kg soil. The short term.effec.s of AgNP were, in general, ***, after one year of exposure to 0.01 m. AgNP/kg, there were signific.nt negative effec.s on soil m.c.obial biom.ss（quantified by extrac.able DNA; p = 0.000） and bac.erial am.onia oxidizers（quantified by am. A gene c.py num.ers; p = 0.009）. Furtherm.re, the tested AgNP c.nc.ntrations signific.ntly dec.eased the soil m.c.obial biom.ss, the leuc.ne am.nopeptidase ac.ivity（quantified by substrate turnover; p = 0.014）, and the abundanc. of nitrogen fixing m.c.oorganism.（quantified by nif H gene c.py num.ers; p = 0.001）. The results of the positive c.ntrol with Ag NO3 revealed predom.nantly stronger effec.s due to Ag＋ion release. Thus, the inc.easing toxic.ty of AgNP during the test period m.y reflec. the long-term.release of Ag^＋ions. Nevertheless, even very low c.nc.ntrations of AgNP c.used disadvantages for the m.c.obial soil c.m.unity, espec.ally for nitrogen c.c.ing, and our results c.nfirm.d the risks of releasing AgNP into the environm.nt.
