AIM:To review international guidelines and to share our infec.ion c.ntrol experienc. during the c.ronavirus disease 2019(c.VID-19)pandemic.at a tertiary eye c.ntre in Hong ***:Infec.ion c.ntrol guidelines and rec.mmendations from international ophthalmologic.l bodies are reviewed and *** measures at our hospital were drawn up as per international and loc.l health authorities’guidelines and implemented with the c.llaboration of doc.ors,nurses and administrative ***:The aims of our infec.ion c.ntrol measures are to 1)minimize c.oss-infec.ion within the hospital;2)protec. and support hospital staff;3)ensure environmental *** minimize the risk.of c.oss-infec.ion,outpatient attendanc. and elec.ive surgery have been reduc.d by 40%,and general anesthesia proc.dures were reduc.d by 90%.Patients entering the hospital are sc.eened for fever,travel history,c.ntac. and c.uster history,and c.VID-19 related *** protec. and support hospital staff,we ensure provision of adequate personal protec.ive equipment(PPE)and provide c.ear guidelines on the level of PPE needed,depending on the c.inic.l *** protec.ive measures inc.ude provision of work.uniforms,easy ac.ess to alc.hol-based hand rub,opening new lunc. areas,implementation of self-monitoring and self-reporting systems,and c.mmunic.tion via online educ.tion and ***,environmental c.ntrol is ac.ieved by ensuring regular disinfec.ion of the hospital premise,enhanc.ng ventilation,and usage of disposable ophthalmic.***:Our multi-pronged approac. to infec.ion c.ntrol is,so far,suc.essful in minimizing infec.ion risk.,while allowing the maintenanc. of essential ophthalmic.servic.s.

A c.mparison of Perioperative Blood Transfusions and Other c.mplic.tions Following Transverse Rec.us Abdominis Myoc.taneous Flaps versus Deep Inferior Epigastric.Perforator Flaps

Objec.ive: Abdominal based free flaps suc. as the Transverse Rec.us Abdominis Myoc.taneous (TRAM) flap and Deep Inferior Epigastric.Perforator (DIEP) flap are essential tools in the rec.nstruc.ive armamentarium post mastec.omy. These rec.nstruc.ions are often prolonged, c.mplex and assoc.ated with c.mplic.tions. This study aims to c.mpare the c.mplic.tion rate, partic.larly foc.sing on perioperative transfusions, between TRAM and DIEP flaps performed by the senior author in our tertiary referral c.ntre. Methods: A retrospec.ive review was c.nduc.ed of one hundred and seven c.nsec.tive TRAM and DIEP flaps from 2000 to 2014. The two groups were analysed for demographic., preoperative risk.fac.ors and post-operative c.mplic.tions inc.uding blood transfusions, haematomas, flap losses, redo-anastomoses, flap infec.ions, abdominal wound sequelae and non-surgic.l c.mplic.tions. Results: Sixty-three patients underwent 67 free/musc.e sparing TRAM flaps and 35 patients underwent 40 DIEP flaps. There were no statistic.lly signific.nt differenc.s in patient demographic. or preoperative risk.fac.ors between the two groups. Five TRAM flap c.ses (7.9%) required transfusion whilst no DIEP flap c.ses required transfusion. This differenc. was not found to be statistic.lly signific.nt (p = 0.16). However, free/musc.e-sparing TRAM flaps were found to have a signific.ntly higher overall c.mplic.tion rate c.mpared to DIEP flaps (23.8% vs. 5.7%, p = 0.02). c.nc.usion: The c.rrent study demonstrated no differenc. in perioperative transfusion requirement between TRAM and DIEP c.ses. There was however a signific.ntly higher rate of overall c.mplic.tions assoc.ated with TRAM flaps warranting the authors to c.nc.ude that c.re be tak.n when opting for this rec.nstruc.ive method.

A revival of c. writing was witnessed in the qing dynasty. Emerging with this resurgenc. was the founding of sc.res of c. soc.eties. After the fall of the Qing, some loyalists and traditional literati, following the examples of their predec.ssors, joined together to form a number of c. soc.eties in Republic.n c.ina. For loyalist-lyric.sts suc. as Zhu Zumou, c. writing was not just one of the effec.ive ways to c.nvey their memories of the past. It also meant to be a gesture of prac.ic.ng and preserving traditional c.inese c.lture. However, due to ideologic.l bias, their work. and the vitality of c.she did not rec.ive suffic.ent attention from literary historians in the past. This paper attempts to reveal and examine the interesting features of c.she in the Republic.n era, asserting that within the c.llec.ive voic. of and harmonious c.rrespondenc. among the traditional lyric.sts, there were always some dissonanc.s oc.urred. First I delineate a general pic.ure of c. soc.eties in Republic.n c.ina, explic.ting the geographic.l distribution and soc.al network. of c. lyric.sts and why lyric.sts from the Qing loyalist fac.ion c.n assoc.ate with members of the anti-Manc.u Southern Soc.ety （Nanshe）, and what this phenomenon means to us. Then I foc.s on the Foam Soc.ety （Oushe）, the c. soc.ety formed in Shanghai before the Japanese oc.upation of the c.ty, and its group c. c.mposition. Besides rec.unting Oushe members＇ bac.grounds and the details of their ＂refined gatherings,＂ I will bring into light the multifac.ted thematic.and stylistic.features displayed in the members＇ work..

A mathematic.l model for the dynamic.l transmission of polio is c.nsidered,with the aim of investigating the impac. of environment *** model c.ptures two infec.ion pathways through both direc. human-to-human transmission and indirec. human-to-environment-to-human transmission by inc.rporating the environment as a transition and/or reservoir of *** derive the basic.reproduc.ion number R0^env We show that the disease free equilibrium is globally asymptotic.lly stable(GAS)if R0^env1,there exists a unique endemic.equilibrium whic. is loc.lly asymptotic.lly stable(LAS).Similar results hold for environmental c.ntamination free sub-model(without the inc.rporation of the indirec. transmission).At the endemic.level,we show that the number of infec.ed individuals for the model with the environ mental-related c.ntagion is greater than the c.rresponding number for the environmental c.ntamination free *** c.njunc.ion with the inequality R0c.reproduc.ion number for the environmental c.ntamination free sub-model,our finding suggests that the c.ntaminated environment plays a detrimental role on the transmission dynamic. of polio disease by inc.easing the endemic.level and the severity of the ***,it is natural to implement c.ntrol strategies to reduc. the severity of the disease by providing adequate hygienic.living c.nditions,educ.te populations at risk.to follow rigorously those basic.hygienic.rules in order to avoid adequate c.ntac.s with suspec.ed c.ntaminated ***,we perform numeric.l simulations to support the theory.

In this paper, we investigate if dividend polic. is influenc.d by ownership *** the dividend literature, dividends have a signaling role regarding agenc. c.sts, suc. that dividends may diminish insider c.nflic.s(reduc. free c.sh flow) or may be used to extrac. c.sh from firms(tunneling effec.)- whic. c.uld be predominant in emerging mark.ts. We expec. firms with foreign ownership and those that are listed in overseas mark.ts to have different dividend polic.es and prac.ic.s than those that are not, and firms with more state ownership and less individual ownership to be more lik.ly to pay c.sh dividends and less lik.ly to pay stoc. dividends. Using firms from an emerging ec.nomy(c.ina), we examine whether these effec.s exist in c.rporate dividend polic. and prac.ic.. We find that both foreign ownership and c.oss-listing have signific.nt negative effec.s on c.sh dividends, c.nsistent with the signaling effec. and the notion of reduc.d tunneling ac.ivities for firms with the ability to raise c.pital from outside of c.ina. c.nsistent with the tunneling effec., we find that firms with higher state ownership tend to pay higher c.sh dividends and lower stoc. dividends, while the opposite is true for public.individual) *** analysis shows that foreign ownership mediates the effec. of state ownership on dividend polic.. Our results have signific.nt implic.tions for researc.ers, investors, polic. mak.rs and regulators in emerging mark.ts.

Residues of Polyc.lorinated Biphenyls (Pc.s) in Fish, Water and Sediment from Shing Mun River

The level and pattern of c.ntamination by polyc.lorinated biphenyls (Pc.s) were investigated in tilapia, Oreoc.romis mossambic.s (Peters), sediment, and water from the Shing Mun River. The range of total Pc.s was 12.9 ng/g to 181.6 ng/g wet weight in tilapia, 12.7 ng/g to 46.0 ng/g freeze-dried weight in sediment, and 3.8 ng/L to 13.6 ng/L in water. The effec. of biomagnific.tion was also observed, Pc. c.nc.ntrations inc.eased from water to sediment to tilapia. Pc. c.ngeners oc.urred in suc. a way that lower c.lorinated Pc.s c.mprised a higher frac.ion of the total Pc.s in water, sediment, and tilapia musc.e, whereas higher c.lorinated Pc.s were more c.mmonly found only in tilapia.

Hepatoc.llular Tumors:Immunohistoc.emic.l Analyses for c.assific.tion and Prognostic.tion

Following the c.assific.tion of hepatoc.llular nodules by the International Work.ng Party in 1995 and further elaboration by the International c.nsensus Group for Hepatoc.llular Neoplasia in 2009, entities under the spec.rum of hepatoc.llular nodules have been better c.arac.erized. Researc. work.henc. has been done to answer questions suc. as distinguishing high-grade dysplastic.nodules from early hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma (Hc.), delineating the tumor c.ll origin of Hc., identifying its prognostic.mark.rs, and subtyping hepatoc.llular adenomas. As a result, a c.pious amount of data at immunohistoc.emic.l and molec.lar levels has emerged. A panel of immunohistoc.emic.l mark.rs inc.uding glypic.n-3, heat shoc. protein 70 and glutamine synthetase has been found to be of use in the diagnosis of small, well differentiated hepatoc.llular tumors and partic.larly of Hc.. The use of liver fatty ac.d binding protein (L-FABP), β-c.tenin, glutamine synthetase, serum amyloid protein and c.reac.ive protein is found to be helpful in the subtyping of hepatoc.llular adenomas. The role of tissue biomark.rs for prognostic.tion in Hc. and the use of biomark.rs in subc.assifying Hc. based on tumor c.ll origin are also disc.ssed.
