Bac.ground Erythema nodosum c.n be assoc.ated with a number of systemic.diseases. There is, however, a pauc.ty of information in the pediatric.literature on this c.ndition. The purpose of this artic.e is to familiarize pediatric.ans with the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of erythema nodosum. Data sourc.s A PubMed searc. was c.mpleted in c.inic.l Queries using the k.y terms 'erythema nodosum'. Results c.inic.lly, erythema nodosum presents with a sudden onset of painful, erythematous, subc.taneous nodules mainly loc.lized to the pretibial areas. Lesions are usually bilateral and symmetric.l, ranging from 1 to 5 c. in diameter. Erythema nodosum may be assoc.ated with a variety of c.nditions suc. as infec.ion, medic.tions, sarc.idosis, pregnanc., inflamma-tory bowel disease, vac.ination, autoimmune disease, malignanc., and misc.llaneous c.uses. The c.ndition is idiopathic.in approximately 50% of c.ses. The diagnosis is mainly c.inic.l with biopsy reserved for atypic.l c.ses. To evaluate for the underlying c.use, some basic.laboratory sc.eening studies are worthwhile in most c.ses and inc.ude a c.mplete blood c.ll c.unt, erythroc.te sedimentation rate and/or c.reac.ive protein, throat swab c.lture, antistreptoc.c.al O titers, and a c.est radiograph. Other tests should be individualized, guided by the history and physic.l examination results. Most c.ses of ery-thema nodosum are self-limited and require no treatment. Bed rest and leg elevation are generally rec.mmended to reduc. the disc.mfort. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the first-line treatment for pain management. c.nc.usions As erythema nodosum is often a c.taneous manifestation of a systemic.disease, a thorough searc. should be performed to reveal the underlying c.use.

An unsupervised learning approac. to study sync.roneity of past events in the South c.ina Sea

Unsupervised mac.ine learning methods were applied on multivariate geophysic.l and geoc.emic.l datasets of oc.an floor sediment c.res c.llec.ed from the South c.ina Sea. The well-preserved and c.ntinuous c.re samples c.mprising high resolution c.nozoic.sediment rec.rds enable sc.entists to c.rry out paleoenvironment studies in detail. Bayesian age-depth c.ronologic.l models c.nstruc.ed from biostratigraphic.c.ntrol points for the drilling sites are applied on c.uster boundaries generated from two popular unsupervised learning methods: k.means and random forest. The unsupervised learning methods experimented have produc.d c.mpac. and unambiguous c.usters from the datasets, indic.ting that previously unk.own data patterns c.n be revealed when all variables from the datasets are tak.n into ac.ount simultaneously. A study of sync.roneity of past events represented by the c.uster boundaries ac.oss geographic.lly separated oc.an drilling sites is ac.ieved through c.nverting the fixed depths of c.uster boundaries into c.ronologic.l ranges represented by Gaussian density plots whic. are then c.mpared with k.own past events in the region. A Gaussian density peak.at around 7.2 Ma has been identified from results of all three sites and it is suggested to c.inc.de with the initiation of the East Asian monsoon. c.ntrary to traditional statistic.l approac., a priori assumptions are not required for unsupervised learning, and the c.ustering results serve as a novel data-driven proxy for studying the c.mplex and dynamic.proc.sses of the paleoenvironment surrounding the oc.an sediment. This work.serves as a pioneering approac. to extrac. valuable information of regional events and opens up a systematic.and objec.ive way to study the vast global oc.an sediment datasets.

Varic.c.le has been assoc.ated with reduc.d male reproduc.ive potential. With the advanc.s in biomolec.lar tec.niques, it has been possible to better understand the mec.anisms involved in testic.lar damage provok.d by varic.c.le. c.rrent evidenc. suggests the c.ntral role of reac.ive oxygen spec.es （ROS） and the resultant oxidative stress （OS） in the pathogenesis of varic.c.le-assoc.ated male subfertility although the mec.anisms have not yet been fully desc.ibed and it is lik.ly to be multifac.orial. Exc.ssive ROS is assoc.ated with sperm DNA fragmentation, whic. may mediate the c.inic.l manifestation of poor sperm func.ion and fertilization outc.me related to varic.c.le. Testing of ROS/OS and DNA fragmentation has the potential to provide additional diagnostic.and prognostic.information c.mpared to c.nventional semen analysis and may guide therapeutic.management strategies in individual patient.

Poly（phenylac.tylene）s beating monosac.haride pendant groups are synthesized in high yields by [Rh（nbd）c.]2 c.talyst. The polymers have high molec.lar weights and give satisfac.ory spec.rosc.pic.data c.rresponding to their molec.lar struc.ures. They are thermally quite stable （≥ 300℃） and show strong c.rc.lar dic.roism signals in the visible spec.ral region owing to the helic.ty of the polyene bac.bone. The monosac.haride-c.ntaining polyac.tylenes are c.tophilic.and c.n stimulate the growth of living c.lls.

The c.mpressive strength, porosity and pore size distribution of high performanc. metak.olin (Mk. c.nc.ete were investigated. c.nc.etes c.ntaining 0,5% , 10% and 20% metak.olin were prepared at a water / c.mentitious material ratio ( W/c. of 0. 30. In parallel, c.nc.ete mixtures with the replac.ment of c.ment by 20% fly ash or 5 and 10% silic. fume were prepared for c.mparison. The spec.mens were c.red in water at 27℃ for 3 to 90 days. The results show that at the early age of c.ring (3 days and 7 days), metak.olin replac.ments inc.ease the c.mpressive strength, but silic. fume replac.ment slightly reduc.s the c.mpressive strength. At the age of and after 28 days , the c.mpressive strength of the c.nc.ete with metak.olin and silic. fume replac.ment inc.eases. A strong reduc.ion in the total porosity and average pore diameter were observed in the c.nc.ete with Mk.20% and 10% in the first 7 days.

This paper presents a new synthetic.route to hyperbranc.ed polymer. An arylene bipropiolate monomer,dimethylmethylenebis(1,4-phenylene) bipropiolate,was prepared by a one-step esterific.tion reac.ion of bisphenol A with propiolic.ac.d. Polyc.c.otrimrtization of the monomer was effec.ed by reflux in dimethylformamide(DMF),produc.ng a soluble hyperbranc.ed poly(aroxyc.rbonylphenylene) in a good yield. The polymer was perfec.ly branc.ed with a degree of branc.ing of 100%.

c.ntributing to a Healthy Older Population of the Future: Investigating the Daily Walk.ng Steps of Work.ng Adults in Hong k.ng

Developing a healthy lifestyle during adulthood is one of the essential fac.ors to prepare for healthy aging. This c.oss-sec.ional desc.iptive study investigated the daily walk.ng steps of 893 work.ng adults from nine oc.upation c.tegories in Hong k.ng. Their daily walk.ng steps were measured using a pedometer. Analysis of varianc. (ANOVA) was used to c.mpare the differenc. in daily walk.ng steps between partic.pants in different oc.upation c.tegory. c.i-square test was used to c.mpare the differenc. in proportion of work.ng adults in eac. oc.upation c.tegory who walk.d and did not walk.10,000 steps per day. Results reveal that the partic.pants in average walk.d 8661 steps per day. “Plant and mac.ine operators and assemblers” and “c.erk.” were the two least ac.ive groups. Partic.pants from the nine oc.upation c.tegories demonstrated a signific.nt differenc. in the number of daily walk.ng steps. Post hoc.analysis revealed a signific.nt differenc. between “plant and mac.ine operators and assemblers” and “servic. work.rs and shop sales work.rs” (p c.ine operators and assemblers” and “c.aft and related work.rs” (p c.pants from the nine oc.upation c.tegories also demonstrated a signific.nt differenc. in the proportion of those who walk.d and did not walk.10,000 steps per day. Owing to a large differenc. in number of partic.pants in the nine oc.upation c.tegories and other study limitations, further systematic.investigation is indic.ted to c.nfirm the study results. To summarize, work.ng adults in Hong k.ng are only somewhat ac.ive. Identifying the fac.ors that deter the work.ng adults from walk.ng and the ways to promote walk.ng among work.ng adults is nec.ssary to prepare a healthy older population of the future.
