Introduc.ion: The aim.of the study was to assess the role of I-124 PET/c. in the predic.ion of uptake of a therapeutic.dosage I-131 during follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid c.nc.r (DTc.. m.thods: The results of 34 I-124 PET/c. sc.ns perform.d in our hospital between 2007 and 2012 were retrospec.ively evaluated. All sc.ns were m.de in patients under follow up, replac.ng the diagnostic.I-131 or I-123 sc.ntigraphy. In all c.ses thyroglobulin (Tg) was stim.lated (by rec.m.inant thyroid stim.lating horm.ne (rhTSH) or thyroid horm.ne withdrawal). A dosage of 40 m.q I-124 was used, with sc.ns at 24 hours and 96 hours after adm.nistration. Results were c.m.ared to subsequent I-131 post-treatm.nt sc.ns (6 c.ses) and a c.m.ination of follow up, stim.lated Tg and other im.ging tools results available to assess presenc. of rec.rrenc.. Results: Rec.rrenc. of DTc.was found in 14/34 c.ses. I-124 PET/c. c.rrec.ly detec.ed rec.rrenc. in 2 c.ses, with false negative results in 12 c.ses. In 1 c.se a false positive I-124 PET/c. result was rec.rded. 19 true negative results were found. For I-124 PET/c. this m.ant a sensitivity of 14% and a spec.fic.ty of 95%. Positive predic.ive value was 67%, negative predic.ive value 61%. Post-treatm.nt I-131 uptake (6 c.ses) was c.rrec.ly predic.ed in 1 c.se, with false negative results in 4 c.ses and 1 true negative result. c.nc.usions: In this study I-124 PET/c. did not reliably detec. rec.rrent differentiated thyroid c.rc.nom.. m.re im.ortantly it failed to predic. I-131 uptake on post-treatm.nt sc.ntigraphy in a signific.nt num.er of c.ses, whic. would lead to under-treatm.nt.

A new laboratory m.thod was proposed to establish an easily perform.d standard for the determ.nation of m.bile soil water c.ose to real c.nditions during the infiltration and redistribution of water in a soil. It c.nsisted of applying a water volum. with a trac.r ion on top of an undisturbed ring sam.le on a pressure plate under a known suc.ion or pressure head. Afterwards, soil water m.bility was determ.ned by analyzing the trac.r-ion c.nc.ntration in the soil sam.le. Soil water m.bility showed to be a func.ion of the applied water volum.. No relation between soil water m.bility and applied pressure head c.uld be established with data from.the present c.perim.nt. A sim.le one- or two-param.ter equation c.n be fitted to the experim.ntal data to param.terize soil water m.bility as a func.ion of applied solute volum.. Sandy soils showed higher m.bility than loam.＂ soils at low values of applied solute volum.s, and both sandy and loam. soils showed an alm.st c.m.lete m.bility at high applied solute volum.s.

Asphalt pavem.nts with a healing c.pability are believed to be very useful sinc. they c.n extend the pavem.nt servic. life thanks to rest periods and hot sum.ers. In order to design durable asphalt pavem.nts,researc. in understanding and upgrading the self-healing c.pability of bitum.nous m.terials in tim. is of m.jor im.ortanc.. The self healing c.pability of bitum.nous m.stic.was evaluated in this researc. with a direc. tension healing test. In the test program.different healing tim.s,c.ac. status and m.dific.tions were applied. The results indic.te that elastic.rec.very and flow c.pac.ty are im.ortant fac.ors for the self healing c.pability of bitum.nous m.terials at different c.ac. phases as sim.lated with the direc. tension test.

Patients with burn sc.rs often experienc. func.ional problem. bec.use of sc.r c.ntrac.ures. Surgic.l treatm.nt m.y be indic.ted for those burn sc.r c.ntrac.ures. If the c.ntrac.ures are sm.ll and linear, the c.ntrac.ion bands c.n be treated with loc.l transposition flaps like the Z-plasty. Broader, diffuse c.ntrac.ures are m.re c.allenging and require a different surgic.l approac., suc. as the use of loc.l tissue. The use of perforator-based flaps is prom.sing;however, their true c.inic.l signific.nc. for this type of burn rec.nstruc.ions still needs to be determ.ned. Therefore, we perform.d a review to evaluate the role of perforator-based flaps for burn sc.r c.ntrac.ure treatm.nt. Elec.ronic.databases were searc.ed using a predefined searc. strategy. Studies evaluating the long-term.outc.m. of perforator-based flaps for the treatm.nt of burn sc.r c.ntrac.ures were inc.uded. The m.thodologic.l quality was tested and data was sum.arized. Five hundred and ten papers were identified of whic. eleven m.t the inc.usion c.iteria. One study was a random.zed c.ntrolled trial;ten were c.hort studies of a pre-postoperative design. The papers desc.ibed outc.m.s of free flaps and loc.l flaps. m.st studies had m.thodologic.l shortc.m.ngs and used inappropriate statistic.l m.thods. Perforator-based interposition flaps appear to be highly relevant for burn sc.r c.ntrac.ure treatm.nt. However, due to the pauc.ty and low quality of the studies that were assessed, no definitive c.nc.usions about the true c.inic.l signific.nc. c.uld be reac.ed. And therefore, only rec.m.endations c.uld be given for im.rovem.nt of the quality of further prim.ry researc. on the effec.iveness of perforator-based flaps for burn sc.r c.ntrac.ure release.
