During the interval from 0615-0730UT on 24 August 2005, the near-Earth magnetotail displayed multiple responses to the combined changes in solar wind dynamic pressure and interplanetary magnetic field (ImF). The magnetotail was highly compressed by a strong interplanetary shock due to the dynamic pressure enhancement (5nPa), and the large shrinkage of magnetotail made a northern lobe/mantle move inward to the position of inbound Tc1 satellite that was initially in the plasma sheet. meanwhile, the dynamic pressure fluctuation behind the shock drove the quasi-periodic oscillations of the magnetopause, lobe-mantle boundary and geomagnetic field at the same frequencies, one dominant frequency is around 3mHz and the other is around 5mHz. The oscillation of the lobe-mantle boundary caused the alternate entries of Tc1 into the northern lobe and the plasma mantle. In contrast to a single squeezed/deformed magnetotail by a solar wind discontinuity moving tailward, the compressed and oscillating magnetotail can better indicate the dynamic evolution of magnetotail when solar wind dynamic pressure increases and fluctuates remarkably. Furthermore, it is found that the considerable oxygen ions (O+) appeared in the lobe after the southward turning of ImF.

＜正＞At about 0330UT on February 23, 2005, cluster was located at about （9.0,1.6,7.0）Re（GSm）;the GSm locations of Double Star Tc-1 and Tc2 at 0430UT were about （10.4,0.4,2.1）Re and about （0.5,0.1,-1.4）Re in the low-altitude cusp, respectively. Inside the dayside magnetosheath close to the magnetopause, Bxabout 0, Bz was positive with the maximum being less than 20nT, and By≈-50nT. During 0320-0340 cluster four spacecraft were traversing through the magnetopause and observed pronounced plasma flow in the magnetospheric boundary layer. The flow speed was over 370 km/s, much higher than the background magnetosheath flow and directed poleward and duskward. Preliminary analysis shows that this high-speed flow may possibly manifest a reconnection event. In the meantime, Tc-1 at the low-latitude also observed high-speed flow when the satellite entered the LLBL for a short time interval. The flow was basically along the +y-direction and much higher than the background magnetosheath flow. Interesting enough, just within the time period of cluster measurement of high-speed flow, the ImAGE FUV observed both proton and electron aurora brightening on the duskside of polar ionosphere. One hour later around 0440UT, Tc-1 was crossing the magnetopause from the magnetosphere toward the magnetosheath. The spacecraft encountered with high-speed flow in the LLBL and an FTE in the magnetosheath. Of particular interest are the facts that just in the time period of Tc-1 observation of high-speed flow, Tc-2 detected sharp energetic electron enhancements and the ImAGE FUV also saw both proton and electron aurora brightening on the duskside of polar ionosphere. In addition, Tc-2 also detected an energetic electron burst at the time when Tc-1 encountered the FTE. Implications of this multi-spacecraft observation of a high-speed flow event are discussed in this paper. The possible global reconnection pattern at the dayside magnetopause is also contemplated.

2005年8月24日磁暴期间(Dst=-219nT),Tc-2卫星上的中性原子成像仪(NUADU)观测到了绕近地等离子体片区磁力线作螺旋运动的全空间4π立体角离子通量分布.在Tc-2卫星历时34min的多次穿越等离子体片过程中,多个能量离子束事件均具有绕磁力线呈现两个对称环状离子通量分布特征.在每一次穿越等离子体片过程中低频波探测器(LFEW/Tc-2)都探测到了频率略高于低混杂波摸的哨声波摸合声的增强.比较离子投掷角分布与磁场,我们发现场向能量离子通量增强总伴随有等离子体片磁力线的尾向拉伸;垂直磁力线方向的能量离子通量增强却伴随有等离子体片磁力线的地向压缩,并出现总磁场强度的峰值.由于平行和垂直磁力线的离子通量增强是间歇性地交替出现,探测数据揭示了一种近地等离子体片磁力线的纵向振荡(磁力线的尾向拉伸和地向收缩)过程,这有助于在近地等离子体片区域形成离子与场的相互作用区,从而触发磁暴期间的连续极光亚暴.

How the solar wind affects the location of the magnetopause has been widely studied and excellent models of the magnetopause based on in situ observations in the solar wind and at the magnetopause have been established, while the careful insight into the responses of the magnetopause to the variations in the solar wind can still provide us some new information about the processes in space plasmas. The short distance from cluster to Tc-1 on 9 march 2004, between 06:10 and 08:10 UT, gives us a good opportunity to precisely monitor the responses of the magnetopause to the variations in the solar wind. On the basis of the combined observations between cluster, Tc-1, and SuperDARN, we analyze the magnetopause crossings associated with magnetopause motion or magnetic reconnection when the solar wind conditions have a series of variations. New results about the time delays for the propagation from the solar wind monitor to the magnetopause of the interplanetary magnetic fields （ImF） and of the solar wind dynamic pressure, respectively, and the intrinsic time for reconnection onset at the magnetopause are obtained. The most important feature of the event is that the dynamic pressure and the ImF in the solar wind do not arrive at the magnetopause at the same time, which will direct us to find out how the variation in the solar wind dynamic pressure is transported from the bow shock to the magnetopause. Another significant feature is that this event presents a shorter intrinsic time,2min, for reconnection onset at thedayside magnetopause than that given by the previous work of Le et al. （1993） and Russell et al. （1997）.
