A novel nickel stripper using ammonia as the key component was developed to substitute cyanide for removing nickel film from iron substrates. Its compositions are: ammonia 150 g/L, hydrogen peroxide 50 g/L, ammonium chloride 100 g/L, EDTA 7.5 g/L, copper chloride 15 g/L and glucopyrone 1.2 g/L. The optimum operating conditions are: pH 9.511, temperature 4050 ℃ and stripping time 1 h. It shows many advantages over the traditional cyanide stripper including no toxicity, mild operation, lower cost, larger holding capacity, faster stripping rate and good protection for the base metal, and can meet the technical requirements in industry.

Nanophotonics research has focused recently on the ability of nonlinear optical processes to mediate and transform optical signals in a myriad of novel devices,including optical modulators,transducers,color filters,photodetectors,photon sources,and ultrafast optical *** inherent weakness of optical nonlinearities at smaller scales has,however,hindered the realization of efficient miniaturized devices,and strategies for enhancing both device efficiencies and synthesis throughput via nanoengineering remain ***,we demonstrate a novel mechanism by which second harmonic generation,a prototypical nonlinear optical phenomenon,from individual lithium niobate particles can be significantly enhanced through nonradiative coupling to the localized surface plasmon resonances of embedded gold nanoparticles.A j.int experimental and theoretical investigation of single mesoporous lithium niobate particles coated with a dispersed layer of~10 nm diameter gold nanoparticles shows that a~32-fold enhancement of second harmonic generation can be achieved without introducing finely tailored radiative nanoantennas to mediate photon transfer to or from the nonlinear *** work highlights the limitations of current strategies for enhancing nonlinear optical phenomena and proposes a route through which a new class of subwavelength nonlinear optical platforms can be designed to maximize nonlinear efficiencies through near-field energy exchange.

The temperature and soil moisture conditions as well as vegetation patterns were studied to describe the habitat and to model the life cycle of Melanoplusfrigidus, a true alpine grasshopper of the Scandes. In the low alpine belt of the Norwegian Scandes the species colonizes only the warmest microhabitats with maximum soil surface temperatures of 31℃. Vegetation of these habitats consists of shrub-rich heath dominated by Vaccinium myrtillus and Calluna vulgaris. Using continuously measured temperature data, the development times for four different seasons were modeled and related to field observations. The maximum delay of adult molt was estimated to amount to 3 weeks, the delay being determined by the variation in spring temperature conditions between different years. The possibilities of using M. frigidus as an indicator organism of climate change effects on alpine zoo-coenoses of the Scandes are discussed.

A method based on controlling the complexation precipitation equilibrium of metal ions was proposed to selectively recover nickel and copper from hydroxide sludge formed by lime neutralization of acid mine drainage(AMD). Ethylenediamine(EDA) and ammonium sulfate were chosen as complex reagent and precipitating reagent, respectively, to dissolve target metal hydroxides from sludge and limit useless metal ions in the pregnant solution. Results from both synthetic and natural samples show the excellent selectivity for the target metals(copper and nickel) against Fe(Ⅲ), Ca(Ⅱ) and Mg(Ⅱ), 99% recovery of Cu(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) and shorter leaching time can be reached by this process, and the resultant solution can be used for direct electrowinning. The optimum operating conditions are: pH=9～11, ρ (EDA)=40 g/L, ammonium sulfate 50 g/L, leaching time 5 h(for natural sample) and 2.5 h(for synthetic sludge), liquid to solid ratio being 4 with mechanical stirring at room temperature.

Simulating streamflow and water table depth with a coupled hydrological model

A coupled model integrating MODFLOW and TOPNET with the models interacting through the exchange of recharge and baseflow and river-aquifer interactions was developed and applied to the Big Darby Watershed in Ohio, USA. Calibration and validation results show that there is generally good agreement between measured streamflow and simulated results from the coupled model. At two gauging stations, average goodness of fit （ R2 ）, percent bias （ PB ）, and Nash Sutcliffe efficiency （ENS） values of 0.83, 11.15%, and 0.83, respectively, were obtained for simulation of streamflow during calibration, and values of 0.84, 8.75%, and 0.85, respectively, were obtained for validation. The simulated water table depths yielded average R2 valuesof0.77 and 0.76 for calibration and validation, respectively. The good match between measured and simulated streamflows and water table depths demonstrates that the model is capable of adequately simulating streamflows and water table depths in the watershed and also capturing the influence of spatial and temporal variation in recharge.

Enhancing the dissolution of phenylbutazone using Syloid based mesoporous silicas for oral equine applications

Three mesoporous silica excipients （Syloid~ silicas AL-1 FR XDP 3050 and XDP 3150） were formulated with a model drug known for its poor aqueous solubility, namely phenylbutazone, in an attempt to enhance the extent and rate of drug dissolution. Although other forms of mesoporous silica have been investigated in previous studies, the effect of inclusion with these specific Syloid silica based excipients and more interestingly, with phenylbutazone, is unknown. This work reports a significant enhancement for both the extent and rate of drug release for all three forms of Syloid silica at a 1：1 drug：silica ratio over a period of 30 min. An explanation for this increase was determined to be conversion to the amorphous form and an enhanced drug loading ability within the pores. Differences between the release profiles of the three silicas were concluded to be a consequence of the physicochemical differences between the three forms. Overall, this study confirms that Syloid silica based excipients can be used to enhance dissolution, and potentially therefore bioavailability, for compounds with poor aqueous solubility such as phenylbutazone. In addition, it has been confirmed that drug release can be carefully tailored based on the choice of Syloid~ silica and desired release profile.
