Purpose:As a borrowed concept,science,technology,engineering,and mathematics(STEM)education holds limited relevance in many country *** study investigates how school administrators in Turkey view STEM education from three dimensions:(a)their understanding of STEM education,(b)their experiences of STEM implementations,and(c)their perception of their roles in STEM ***/Approach/Methods:This phenomenological study analyzes the perceptions of school principals working in prominent high schools in ***:The findings indicate that there are gaps in STEM implementation at both the conceptual level and the school level,including epistemological issues,infrastructural gaps,mismatch with overall organizational culture,and knowledge and skill *** efforts to integrate STEM education into educational practices,significant deficiencies are making it an unrealistic practice in ***/Value:While the literature on STEM education is expanding,a few empirical studies focus on school management in relation to STEM ***,despite promising to transform science and mathematics teaching,STEM education appears to have limited relevance to science and mathematics teaching in Turkeyrendering it yet another example of concept and policy borrowing in education.

The pandemic caused by the worldwide spread of the coronavirus,which first appeared in 2019,has been named coronavirus disease 19(COVID-19).More than 4.5 million deaths have been recorded due to the pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),according to the World Health ***-19 Dashboard in September *** from the wildtype,other variations have been successfully transmitted early in the outbreak although they were not discovered until March *** in the SARS-CoV-2 genetic material,such as mutation and recombination,have the ability to modify the viral life span,along with transitivity,cellular tropism,and symptom *** processes are involved in introducing novel vaccines to the population,including vaccine manufacturing,preclinical studies,Food and Drug Administration permission or certification,processing,and ***-19 vaccine candidates have been developed by a number of public and private groups employing a variety of strategies,such as RNA,DNA,protein,and viral vectored *** comprehensive review,which included the most subsequent evidence on unique features of SARS-CoV-2 and the associated morbidity and mortality,was carried out using a systematic search of recent online databases in order to generate useful knowledge about the COVID-19 updated versions and their consequences on the disease symptoms and vaccine development.

Mountainous regions have disadvantages in economic development because of harsh physical and climatic ***,winter tourism activities are one of the key components for supporting economic development in the *** a ski resort area supports direct and indirect employment in a region,and it stops immigration from mountainous regions to other *** research aimed to assess the potential ski areas using a multi criteria evaluation technique in the Van region which is located in the eastern part of Tü*** this context,snow cover duration,sun effect,slope,slope length,elevation,population density,distance from main roads and lake visibility were used as input factors in the decision making *** factor was standardized using a fuzzy technique based on existing well-known ski centers in Tü*** weight of inputs was defined by applying a survey to the professional *** most important factors were detected as transportation opportunities and snow covers whereas,the least important factors were elevation and population ***,lake visibility was very important to make a difference from other existing facilities in the ***,it was included as constraints and lake visible areas were extracted at the final stage of the *** ski areas were mapped in three levels as professional,intermediate and beginner *** of the suitable areas was selected as a sample projection and for the 3D simulation of the ski investment *** costs and benefits were *** was found that a ski tourism area investment can be amortized in 3 years in the region.

Late in-the-bag spontaneous IOL dislocation: risk factors and surgical outcomes

AIM: To evaluate the possible predisposing risk factors for late in-the-bag spontaneous IOL dislocations and to study the early surgical and visual outcomes of repositioning and exchange ***: Medical and surgical records of 39 eyes of 39 patients who underwent IOL repositioning or exchange surgery for dislocation between 2010 and 2018 were reviewed. Possible predisposing risk factors and some characteristics of late in-the-bag spontaneous IOL dislocations;outcomes of IOL repositioning and exchange surgeries, including visual acuity, refractive status before and after surgery and postoperative complications were ***: The predisposing factors for late in-the-bag spontaneous IOL dislocations were pseudoexfoliation [PEX;12/39(30.8%)], previous vitreoretinal surgery [7/39(17.9%)], axial myopia [3/39(7.7%)], both PEX and axial myopia [1/39(2.6%)], both previous vitreoretinal surgery and axial myopia [2/39(5.1%)] and uveitis (1/39(2.6%))The mean interval between cataract and dislocation surgery was 7.23 y, greater in PEX positive group(8.63 y). The mean best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) improved significantly after dislocation surgery(P<0.001) and also improved significantly after exchange surgery(P=0.001). The mean value of spherical equivalant decreased significantly after dislocation surgery(P=0.011), whereas corneal astigmatism increased but this difference was not significant after dislocation surgery and exchange surgery(P=0.191, P=0.074, respectively).CONCLUSION: The most prevelant risk factors for late inthe-bag spontaneous IOL dislocations are PEX, previous vitreoretinal surgery and axial myopia. In the management of IOL dislocations, exchange surgery with small corneal incision seemed effective with improved BCVA and safety with low postoperative complications.

Innovative products produced from various sources through fermentation processes have been a resurgence of *** study was designed to determine the performance of fermented Spirulina (FS) products by three different yeast species including Debaryomyces hansenii ,Kluyveromyces marxianus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae and investigate the microbial,physicochemical and sensory characteristics of *** results showed that the increase in yeast cell number was around 3 log after 48 h fermentation in Spirulina medium without additional carbon *** bands with a molecular weight of ∼51 kDa seemed less visible and bands 14–22 kDa disappeared after 48 h fermentation by *** showed strong hydrolysis of proteins during *** amino acid compositions of the three kinds of FS were different also compared to unfermented Spirulina (unFS).Glutamic acid,methionine,lysine,isoleucine and valine became more dominant in FS *** to GC–MS analysis,there was a decrease in the concentration of pyrazine,ketone and aldehyde compounds of FS compared to *** flavor notes of “seaweed”,“cardboard”,“earthy/muddy” and “cereal/straw” were found to be the highest in unFS than in FS detected by panelists during sensory *** by *** is highly characterized as having the lowest “seaweed” and “umami” flavor attributes and higher “fermented” and “rose” ***,the current study revealed that the potential of Spirulina biomass to be a suitable substrate for yeasts and fermentation of Spirulina with different yeast species led to different kinds of products.

Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world and the treatments are being improved day by day. Although chemotherapy agents have begun to be used, side effects, resistance development and toxicity seen with these drugs are still steps that limit treatment. Objective: Our aim in this study is to show whether sodium selenate (NaS), which has different effects on many different cells, has antiproliferative and apoptotic effects on MCF-7 breast cancer cells, considering the dose-time relationship, and to reveal its effect on oxidant stress parameters. Methods: 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 μM sodium selenate was applied to the cells for 24, 48 and 72 hours. MTT test was applied to show the proliferative effect. Apoptosis was also measured with Annexin V/7AAD in MCF7 cells. Malondaldehyde (MDA) and Glutathione (GSH) levels were studied to reveal the oxidant/antioxidant balance. Results: It has been shown that as the NaS dose increases in MCF-7 cells, cell viability decreases (p 0.05), but at all subsequent increasing NaS doses, viability was found statistically significant decreased (p: 0.001, p 0.05, respectively). Conclusion: Considering that NaS has an antitumor effect on breast cancer, increases oxidative stress and increases apoptosis by supressing the antioxidant protection system, and does not have a toxic effect on normal body cells at certain doses. When all these features evaluated, we think, selenium should be considered as a natural option in the treatment of breast cancer.

Automated evaluation of parapapillary choroidal microvasculature in crowded optic discs:a controlled,optical coherence tomography angiography study

AIM:To compare superficial and deep vascular properties of optic discs between crowded discs and controls using optical coherence tomography angiography(OCT-A).METHODS:Thirty patients with crowded discs,and 47 control subjects were enrolled in the *** eye of each individual was included and OCT-A scans of optic discs were obtained in a 4.5×4.5 mm^(2) rectangular *** peripapillary capillary(RPC)density,peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer(pRNFL)thickness,cup volume,rim area,disc area,cup-to-disc(c/d)area ratio,and vertical c/d ratio were obtained automatically using device *** parapapillary choroidal microvasculature(PPCMv)density was calculated using MATLAB *** the vertical c/d ratio of the optic disc was absent or small cup,it was considered as a crowded ***:The mean signal strength index of OCT-A images was similar between the crowded discs and control eyes(P=0.740).There was no difference in pRNFL between the two groups(P=0.102).There were no differences in RPC density in whole image(P=0.826)and peripapillary region(P=0.923),but inside disc RPC density was higher in crowded optic discs(P=0.003).The PPCMv density in the inner-hemisuperior region was also lower in crowded discs(P=0.026).The pRNFL thickness was positively correlated with peripapillary RPC density(r=0.498,P<0.001).The inside disc RPC density was negatively correlated with c/d area ratio(r=-0.341,P=0.002).CONCLUSION:The higher inside disc RPC density and lower inner-hemisuperior PPCMv density are found in eyes with crowded optic discs.
