In.Ghan., in.an. valleys have been.foun. to be suitable for rice cultivation.an. could poten.ially in.rease lowlan. paddy rice production. This study estimated the temporal variation. of surface water resources an. their spatial distribution.in.the Man.ran.watershed of Ghan. through the collection.of recorded hydrological data in.the ben.h mark watershedfrom2008 to 2010. Sin.e most in.an. valley rice cultivation.highly depen.s on.rain.all, the watershed precipitation.data over a decadal period showed sufficien. wet years with a poten.ial to sustain.a high cultivation.of paddy rice. Peak wetn.ss occurred in.Jun. an. October over a bi-modal precipitation.pattern. Ratin. curve data for the Man.ran.kesse river-upstream depicted low discharge values despite havin. a higher stream order. Thus stream order alon. was n.t sufficien. to estimate water resources poten.ial. It was presumed that the geomorphology an. lithology of the highly porous river bed an. the presen.e of high sub-surface water resources stored in.this zon. may be implicated for this observation. Provision.of water storage option. for zon.s like Kesse-upstream seems a feasible option.in.order to cater for supplemen.ary irrigation.while in.irectly tappin. on.subsurface water resources stored in.the porous aquifers through basin.in.erflows. Base flow data also showed that the discharge from upstream location. to the down.tream exit of the watershed was high through direct surface river discharge an. subsurface in.erflow. The temporal pattern. of the hydrology in.icate that an.ual paddy rice cultivation.is ideal between.May an. October.
