Aim:To identify a drug that can effectively eliminate these cancer stem cells(CSCs)and determine its mode of ***:CSCs were obtained from mouse induced pluripotent stem cells(miPSCs)using cancer cell-conditioned *** screening was performed on these cells or after transplantation into *** was analyzed by flow cytometry and western ***:Drug screening studies showed that daunorubicin,a topoisomerase II inhibitor,is specifically cytotoxic to ***-induced apoptosis was found to be associated with p53 accumulation,activation of the caspase cascade,and oligonucleosomal DNA *** with the caspase inhibitor abolished daunorubicin-induced DNA fragmentation and was therefore considered to act downstream of caspase *** was also suppressed by treatment with a Ca2+-specific chelator,which suggested that CAD endonuclease does not ***,no obvious ICAD reduction/degradation was ***:Daunorubicin effectively eliminated CSCs,which are dependent on the p53/caspase signaling *** current findings provided the basis for further studies on CSC-targeted drugs for the development of cancer treatment strategies.

Introduction According to the World Health Organization(WHO,2018),intraductal papillary neoplasms of the bile duct(IPNB)are characterized as polypoid masses in dilated bile ducts;additionally,invasive IPNB occasionally presents with a nodular surface or mass formation[1,2].The IPNB diagnostic criteria are,however,often ambiguous,*** IPNB is considered a type of cancer and whether it must have mucus production are debatable[3].Therefore,establishing new IPNB diagnostic criteria based on an alternative approach,such as whole-exome sequencing,is ***,we present a case of IPNB with atypical features on which we performed a detailed genetic analysis to determine the genetic,morphological,and histological features of IPNB in this case.

Identification of TM9SF2 as a Candidate of the Cell Surface Marker Common to Breast Carcinoma Cells

OBJECTIVE We aimed identification of cell surface molecules, which might serve as diagnostic biomarkers or useful targets for therapies, in breast cancer. METHODS We developed unique DNA microarray coupled with spherical self-organizing map （sSOM） analysis to characterize cells and tissues by the cell surface markers. In the microarray 1,797 probes for human genes coding membrane bound proteins were spotted. With this microarray the gene expression profiles of eight breast carcinoma cell lines were compared to identify the genes that were commonly expressed in breast carcinomas but not in normal cells. RESULTS The gene expression profiles of sSOM from the eight breast carcinoma cell lines were successfully distinguished from that of normal breast tissue derived cells suggesting the presence of genes of interest, sSOMon the data extensively filtered revealed several candidate genes, of which expression was significant in carcinoma cells but low in normal cells. Finally, TM9SF2 was nominated through validations of PCR procedures together with CD24 and ErbB3, which are known breast carcinoma markers. TMgSF2 expression was further confirmed by immunological staining. Interestingly, TMgSF2 was found to be expressed in all the cell lines evaluated while CD24 and ErbB3 were not in all of the carcinoma cells, supporting their relationship in sSOM. Although physiological significance of TMgSF2 is unknown yet, siRNA treatment significantly inhibited the growth of MDA- MB-231 cells. CONCLUSION We propose TM9SF2 as a novel and useful diagnostic marker as well as a potential molecular target specific to breast carcinoma cells covering wide range of breast cancer.

We report a case of pulmonary tuberculosis with Penicilliummarneffei infection from a2312years old boy who had a persistent fever formore than1month with unknown origin in which his condition aggravatedwith cough for10days. Chest radiograph showed several conglomerationshadows on upper left lobe and right lower lobe. CT scan of the chesthinted shadow lesions in both lungs with lymph nodes enlargement ofmediastinum and the hilum of lung. Acid-fast bacilli were detected in thegastric liquid. The bone marrow culture showed Penicillium marneffeigrowth. Diagnosis: Pulmonary tuberculosis complicating with Penicilliummarneffei infection. We report a successful treatment of the diseases usingstreptomycin, isoniazide, rifampicin, liposomal amphotericin B andfluconazole for1month. Six months after treatment, patients are totallycured.

We examined the effect of sleep deprivation on self-motion perception (vection). We measured the strength of vection, its latency, and its duration in two conditions: Sleep-Deprivation and Normal-Sleep (by using the between-subject design). For the Sleep-Deprivation condition, participants did not sleep for about 20 hours. We also recorded subjective sleepiness with a subjective rating scale that was filled out by the participants. Results showed that vection strength did not differ between the two conditions. Sleep deprivation did not have any clear effect on vection. As expected, subjective sleepiness significantly increased following sleep deprivation. Further, subjective sleepiness significantly correlated with vection latency and duration only in the Normal-Sleep condition. Vection was immune to sleep deprivation. We conclude that when people are not deprived of sleep, sleepiness can enhance the perceived strength of vection.

The research aimed to propose a non-destructive technology to control subterranean termites Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren infestation based on electromagnetic waves. A portable apparatus for this technology has been built and its experiment is presented in this paper. Some electrical parameters were measured and analyzed along with their effects to the termites. The experiment using frequency range between 30 Hz - 600 kHz has been done. The average error of the apparatus by comparing the result with the direct measurement using oscilloscope was also measured. The highest error value appeared at 600 kHz with frequency error 6.05 kHz. The highest error of voltage (i.e. 0.186 Volt) appeared at 100 kHz. For safetiness, the highest magnetic field at 300 kHz was 0.1815 μT and at 500 kHz was 0.00725 μT which were safe for human. The average value of termites mortality was higher on irradiation time 120 minutes than 60 minutes respectively in all test frequency: 300 kHz, 400 kHz, 500 kHz and 600 kHz. This paper presents an important information of the electromagnatic-based technology for environmental friendly termites control in spite of using the insecticides.
