Estimating Crop Coefficient in Intermittent Irrigation Paddy Fields Using Excel Solver

The current study proposes a novel method using Excel Solver to estimate, from limited data, crop coefficient （Kc） in paddy fields under intermittent irrigation （11）. The proposed method was examined in a field experiment conducted at Karang Sari Village, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia during the first rice season of 2007/2008 （December 2007 to April 2008） in the rainy season. As the control, continuous flooding irrigation （CF） was applied to the conventional rice cultivation fields. Based on the observed water storage, Excel Solver was used to estimate crop evapotranspiration. Estimated crop evapotranspiration was used to compute Kc value, then the average Kc values at each growth stage were compared with that for the CF treatment. The estimation method was evaluated by comparing estimated crop evapotranspiration and the crop evapotranspiration derived by the well established FAO procedure. Excel Solver estimated crop evapotranspiration accurately with R2 values higher than 0.81. Accordingly, more than 81% of the FAO crop evapotranspiration was described by the proposed method. Thus, Kc value could be well determined from those estimated crop evapotranspiration. Under the II treatment, the average Kc values were 0.70, 1.06, 1.24 and 1：22 for the initial, crop development, reproductive and late stages, respectively. These values were lower than those under the CF treatment for initial and crop development stages because of a minimal soil evaporation and intense dryness during these stages. However, average Kc values under the II treatment were higher than those under the CF treatment at the reproductive and late stages, indicating that the II treatment promoted more plant activity particularly for dry biomass production as indicated by a greater number of tillers per hill.

Investigating the function of combining induced rat monocytes-derived bone marrow-haemopoietic stem cell (rat BM-HSCs) with LPS and rat bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cell (rat BM-MSCs) was to analyze the acceleration of homing process mechanism in injured pancreas. Mononucleated stem cells were isolated from aspirated whole rat BM using ficoll and cultured in α-MEM complete growth medium in 10 cm petridish. After two days, adherent cells after washing twice in petridish were added α-MEM growth medium and then mesenchymal cells were characterized using CD105 marker in third passage and labeled PKH26. Then haemopoietic stem cells (HSCs) were isolated with magnetic beads CD34+ and differentiated in vitro, and then induced monocytes with LPS. Animal experiment used 28 male Wistar rats, and divided them into 4 groups. After transplantation combined, both cells between monocyte derived HSc (mHSCs) and rat BM-MSC were analyzed expression of pair box gen 4 (Pax4), pancreatic and duodenal homeobox (Pdx1), C-peptide using immunohistochemistry, then secretion of insulin and C-peptide analyzed using indirect ELISA. Results showed that the expressions of Pax4, Pdx1, C-peptide found in the surface membrane cell of pancreatic cell, and secreted C-peptide and insulin were shown significant (P < 0.05) in transplanted group 2, 3 and 4, but in group 3 were transplanted with combined cells more dominant than non-combined cells. Conclusions suggested that combining of induced monocytes-derived HSCs and rat BM-MSCs has accelerated homing MSCs into injured pancreatic tissue.

A seed rain community in a reforested post-agricultural field and adjacent secondary forest of Mount Papandayan Nature Reserve,West Java,Indonesia

Understanding the mechanisms and barriers to the restoration of degraded land,especially post agriculture,will help provide protocols on effective ways of restoration into functional *** of the barriers in early stages of forest restoration is the arrival and availability of *** rain and factors affecting it(i.e.,distance to the forest edge,species diversity and surrounding vegetation)were measured in a reforested post-agricultural field and in an adjacent secondary *** g lm analysis was used on the seed rain community data and univariate lm analysis on the most abundant seed captured(i.e.,Schima wallichii(DC.)Korth.).After 8 months of seed rain collection,there was a total of 3596 seeds from eight tree *** were more abundant and more diverse in the secondary forest(74.9%,8 species)compared to the reforested field(24.1%,2 species).There was a limitation on seed dispersal in reforested field from the adjacent *** abundance of *** seeds determined by the dominance of adult trees(136 trees/ha in the forest and 115 trees/ha in the reforested field).Our study suggests,that after 7 years of planting,the reforested field has received limited seed rain and has not yet recovered.

An overview of 10-year observation of the South China Sea branch of the Pacific to Indian Ocean throughflow at the Karimata Strait

Besides the Indonesian throughflow(ITF), the South China Sea throughflow(SCSTF) also contributes to the water transport from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean. However, this South China Sea(SCS) branch at the Karimata Strait is poorly observed until 2007, even though its importance has been suggested by numerical studies for decades. In this paper, we review the nearly 10-year field measurement in the Karimata Strait by the execution of the projects of "SCS-Indonesian Seas Transport/Exchange(SITE) and Impacts on Seasonal Fish Migration" and "The Transport, Internal Waves and Mixing in the Indonesian Throughflow regions(TIMIT) and Impacts on Marine Ecosystem", which extend the observations from the western Indonesian seas to the east to include the main channels of the ITF, is introduced. Some major achievements from these projects are summarized.

Plasma glutathione and oxidized glutathione level, glutathione/oxidized glutathione ratio, and albumin concentration in complicated and uncomplicated falciparum malaria

Objective: To compare the level of glutathione(GSH) and oxidized glutathione(GSSG),the ratio of GSH/GSSG and the concentration of albumin in plasma of patients with complicated and un-complicated falciparum ***: This research was a cross sectional study using comparison analysis with the plasma GSH and GSSG, the ratio of plasma GSH/GSSG and the concentration of plasma albumin as variables. The complicated malaria patients were obtained from Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang, whereas uncomplicated malaria patients were obtained from the Regency of Pleihari South Kalimantan. Plasma GSH and GSSG levels were determined by the spectrophotometer at the wave length of 412 nm, whereas the concentration of albumin was determined by bromocresol green method in the p H of ***: There were no significant differences between the level of plasma GSH and GSSG in complicated and uncomplicated malaria patients, as well as the ratio of plasma GSH/GSSG in the two groups(P = 0.373; P = 0.538; and P = 0.615, respectively, independent ttest). In contrast, the plasma albumin concentration in complicated malaria patients were significantly higher than uncomplicated malaria patients(P = 0.000, Mann Whitney U test).Conclusions: It can be concluded that the average of plasma GSH and GSSG level, also plasma GSH/GSSG ratio in complicated malaria are not different from uncomplicated malaria. Although plasma concentration of albumin in both groups is below the normal range,there is an increase in complicated malaria that might be as compensation of oxidative stress.

Reaction kinetics modeling for lithium and cobalt recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries using acetic acid

Lithium and cobalt recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) is a major focus because of their increased production and usage. The conventional method for recycling spent LIBs using inorganic acids produces harmful byproducts. In this work, the leaching agent was substituted with a less expensive and more environmentally friendly alternative—acetic acid—and a mathematical model was developed to describe the kinetics of the recovery process. The variables used were the pH value, temperature, H_2O_2 concentration, and the solid-to-liquid(S/L) ratio. The mathematical model used was the shrinking core model, which was modified to accommodate an equilibrium reaction. The experimental results show that the rate of recovery of Li and Co over time was only affected by temperature. The leaching behaviors of Li and Co were found to oppose each other. An increase in temperature resulted in increased recovery of Li but decreased recovery of Co because of the product-favoring endothermic reaction of Li and the reactant-favoring exothermic reaction of Co. The product of Li has a lower entropy value than the reactant as a free-moving ion, whereas the product of Co leaching has a higher entropy value as a stiff crystal complex. Thus, temperature conditioning is a pivotal factor in the leaching of spent LIBs.

People used to find and interpret objects from a clear optical picture or image, but single image can’t provide sufficient information for identification. Then again, first difficulties when we’re starting image fusion comes from the understanding point of what is the object or content in the image. Multi-sensor image fusion system can overcomes the limitations of a single sensor fusion system by combining the images from these sensors to form a composite image. Every image provided by these different sensors contains specific information of the given scene based on the properties of *** are various method used for making image fusion, but JPEG is a wide known image type has a process that’s widely used the lossy image compression form that centers around Discrete Cosine *** research is designing a platform with two cameras mounted at s o m e distance and also with angle parallel to acquire image that is showered with light source. The thesis propose was to construct an image fusion realization system based on multivision platform design, that is low cost with such proficiency.

Particle formation of hydroxyapatite precursor containing two components in a spray pyrolysis process

The particle formation mechanism of hydroxyapatite precursor containing two components, Ca（OOCCH3）2 and （NH4）2HPO4 with a ratio of Ca/P = 1.67, in a spray pyrolysis process has been studied by computational fluid dynamics （CFD） simulation on the transfer of heat and mass from droplets to the surrounding media. The focus included the evaporation of the solvent in the droplets, a second evaporation due to crust formation, the decomposition reaction of each component of the precursor, and a solid-state reaction that included the kinetic parameters of the precursor regarding its two components that formed the hydroxyapatite product. The rate of evaporation and the reacted fraction of the precursor both increased with temperature. The predicted average size of the hydroxyapatite particles agreed well with the experimental results. Therefore, the selected models were also suitable for predicting the average size of particles that contain two components in the precursor solution.

Activity of tamarindus indica pulp water extract in high carbohydrate diet rats as a treatment for obesity and insulin resistance

Obesity is often identified as a nutritional disorder, and this condition continues to be one of the most important yet preventable health hazards. It may be a complex group of diseases and should be characterized as a syndrome that results from an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure. Furthermore, obesity is associated with several diseases such as diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, osteoarthritis, and hypertension. In previous studies, we found that in Asia, especially in the Asean region, carbohydrates are heavily represented in the diet. Therefore, we used a high carbohydrate diet to induce obesity in rats. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potency of Tamarindus indica pulp as an anti-obesity agent in a high carbohydrate diet animal model. The antiobesity effect was evaluated in this in vivo model at doses of 75 mg/kg·bw and 225 mg/kg·bw. Treatment was started in week 3 and week 9, and biochemical characteristics were measured every 3 weeks. In the end of the study period, insulin resistance and adiponectin levels were measured. TIWE(Tamarindus indica water extract) at a dose of 75 mg/kg·bw showed better efficacy than at a dose of 225 mg/kg·bw, and treatment started on week 3 was better than treatment started on week 9. TIWE has an anti-obesity effect associated insulin resistance by increasing adiponectin levels and insulin sensitivity, which can impact body weight, triglyceride levels, blood glucose levels, and body fat.
