研究了不同耕种方式对澳大利亚同一地区3种土壤表层（0-5cm）理化性质的作用，以揭示保护性耕作对土壤质量恢复的影响。结果表明：免耕穴播／保留残茬（dd／SR）、多年生人工草地（PP）和自然草地（NP）表层土壤的〉2mm水稳性团聚体含量、全氮、有机碳含量、田间持水量均显著高于其相应对照传统耕作／秸秆焚烧（CC／SB）、人工草地／作物轮作（PPC）和耕作（CT）的；土壤全氮含量、田间持水量分别与有机碳含量之间有极显著的正相关关系（r=0．994＊＊，r=0.996＊＊，n=6），而受土壤质地等因素的影响较小；在同一类型的土壤上，土壤有机碳含量与水稳定性团聚体含量之间存在显著的相关性；在不同试验区，耕作措施对表层土壤容重和孑L隙分布的影响存在较大差异；秸秆焚烧和施用石膏对表层土壤的pH及交换性阳离子含量有较大的影响。研究表明长期保护性耕作、草田轮作或多年生草地有利于提高表层土壤有机碳含量和结构稳定性，从而改善土壤的供肥供水能力。

Amphibians are thought to be highly susceptible to perturbed environments. However, recent studies show that many of them are successful inhabitants of disturbed, fragmented habitats. The source of this resilience is yet unclear, but it may be the byproduct of having a robust phenotype and/or the result of phenotypic plasticity. We then assessed the contribution of each by evaluating cytological features of two brain nuclei that modulate reproductive behavior and of the ovary, using female specimens of the frog diaglena spatulata prospering in conserved and disturbed areas of a tropical dry forest. Our results in the brain show that the medial amygdala, but not the preoptic area, had a reduced size in frogs collected in disturbed forests compared to specimens collected in conserved forests. Both brain nuclei displayed, however, neurons with a reduced size in frogs captured in disturbed forest patches. In contrast, ovarian cytological features were similar between groups. Our preliminary results lead us to propose that diaglena spatulata female specimens might combine robust ovary and plastic brain’s phenotypic traits to confront disturbed environments. This, however, is still a working hypothetical framework that needs to be experimentally confirmed.

The Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)is part of the scientific payload of the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European Space Agency(ESA)and the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the SMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the Solar Wind Charge eXchange(SWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the SXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of SMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United States.

Background:Thymidine analogs,namely AZT(Zidovudine or Retrovir^(TM))and d4T(Stavudine or Zerit^(TM))are antiretroviral drugs still employed in over 75%of first line combination antiretroviral therapy(cART)in Kampala,Uganda despite aversion to prescribing these drugs for cART in high income countries due in part to adverse *** this study,we explored how the continued use of these thymidine analogs in cART could impact emergence of drug resistance and impact on future treatment success in Uganda,a low-income ***:We examined the drug resistance genotypes by Sanger sequencing of 262 HIV-infected patients failing a first line combined antiretroviral treatment containing either AZT or d4T,which represents approximately 5%of the patients at the Joint Clinical Research Center receiving a AZT or d4T containing *** generation sequencing(dEEPGEN^(TM)HIV)and multiplex oligonucleotide ligation assays(AfriPOLA)were then performed on a subset of patient samples to detect low frequency drug resistant ***4 cell counts,viral RNA loads,and treatment changes were analyzed in a cohort of treatment success and ***:Over 80%of patients failing first line AZT/d4T-containing cART had predicted drug resistance to 3TC(Lamivudine)and non-nucleoside RT inhibitors(NNRTIs)in the treatment regimen but only 45%had resistance AZT/d4T associated resistance mutations(TAMs).TAMs were however detected at low frequency within the patients HIV quasispecies(1-20%)in 21 of 34 individuals who were failing first-line AZT-containing cART and lacked TAMs by *** to lack of TAMs by Sanger,AZT was typically maintained in second-line therapies and these patients had a low frequency of subsequent virologic ***:Our findings suggest that continued use of AZT and d4T in first-line treatment in low-to-middle income countries may lead to misdiagnosis of HIV-1 drug resistance and possibly enhance a succession of second-and third-line treatment failu

Objective: To characterize the immunodeficiency in ataxia- telangiectasia (A - T) and to determine whether the immunodeficiency is progressive and associate d with increased susceptibility to infections. Study design: Records of 100 cons ecutive patients with A- T from the Johns Hopkins Ataxia- Telangiectasia Clini cal Center (ATCC) were reviewed. Results: Immunoglobulin (Ig) deficiencies are c ommon, affecting IgG4 in 65% of patients, IgA in 63% , IgG2 in 48% , IgE in 23% , and IgG in 18% . Lymphopenia affected 71% of patients, with reduced B - lymphocyte number in 75% , Cd4 T lymphocytes in 69% , and Cd8 T lymphocytes in 51% . There was no trend for increased frequency or severity of immune abno rmalities with age. Recurrent upper and lower respiratory tract infections were frequent: otitismedia in 46% of patients, sinusitis in 27% , bronchitis in 19 % , and pneumonia in 15% . Sepsis occurred in 5 patients, in 2 patients concur rent with cancer chemotherapy. Warts affected 17% of patients, herpes simplex 8% , molluscum contagiosum 5% , candidal esophagitis 3% , and herpes zoster 2 % . Uncomplicated varicella infection occurred in 44% of patients; 2 patients had more than one clinical episode. No patient had Pneumocystis jerovici pneumo nia or a complication of live viral vaccine. Conclusions: In spite of the high p revalence of laboratory immunologic abnormalities, systemic bacterial, severe vi ral, and opportunistic infec tions are uncommon in AT. Cross- sectional analysis suggests that the immune defect is rarely progressive.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children, with the majority of cases being of precursor B-cell phenoltype. Conventional cytogenetic analysis plays an important role in the diagnosis of B-cell ALL, identifying characteristic chromosomal abnormalities associated with a given prognosis therein facilitating optimized treatment. The more recent introduction of microarray technology to the analysis of B-cell ALL has afforded both higher resolution for the detection of known abnormalities and an ability to identify novel copy number abnormalities (CNAs) with potential clinical relevance. In the current study, microarray analysis was performed on 20 cytogenetically abnormal B-cell ALL cases (10 pediatric and 10 adult), while a novel microarray-based balanced-translocation detection methodology (translocation CGH or tCGH) was applied to that subset of cases with a known or suspected recurrent balanced translocation. Standard microarray analysis identified that CNAs was not detected by previous conventional cytogenetics in 75% (15/20) cases. tCGH identified 9/9 (100%) balanced translocations defining BCR/ABL1 (x4), ETV6/RUNX1 (x3), and MLL/AFF1 (x2) breakpoints with high resolution. The results illustrate the improved molecular detail afforded by these technologies and a comparison of translocation breakpoints, CNAs and patient age offers new insights into tumor biology with potential prognostic significance.
