The prolongation of life expectancy and the drastic reduction of fertility rate are the primary cause of an agingworld. It is projected that the elderly (above 65) will increase within the next 25 years by 82% , whereas the new bornonly by 3% . Despite the enormous medical progress during the past few decades, the last years of life are still accom-panied by increasing ill health and disability. The ability to maintain active and independent living for as long as possi-ble is a crucial factor for aging in health and dignity. Therefore, the promotion of healthy aging and the prevention ofdisability in men, must assume a central role in medical research and medical practice as well as in the formulation ofnational health and social policies. Effective programs promoting health and aging will ensure a more efficient use ofhealth and social services and improve the quality of life in older persons by enabling them to remain independent andproductive. The most important and drastic gender differences in aging are related to organs and or systems dependantor influenced by reproductive hormones. In distinction to the course of reproductive aging in women, with the rapid de-cline in sex hormones and expressed by the cessation of menses, aging men experience a slow and continuous decline ofhormones. This decline in endocrine function involves; A decrease of testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA),oestrogens, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), andmelatonin. This decrease is concomitant with an increase of LH and FSH. In addition sex hormone binding globulin's(SHBG) increase with age resulting in further lowering the concentrations of free biologically active androgens. Inter-ventions such as hormone replacement therapy may prevent, delay or alleviate the debilitating conditions which may re-sult from secondary partial endocrine deficiency. The advantages of Low Pressure Carburizing in the Heat Treatment Subcontracting Business

Low Pressure Carburizing (LPC) was introduced in the 90’s in the western Europe Heat Treatment business, mainly for in-house applications where it was especially appreciated for Carburizing of transmission parts. However the success of the LPC units installed for gears Carburizing in the automotive industry has hindered the development of the process in other fields - like subcontracting business -, where its advantages deserve to be enlightened. After a brief review of the principle of the process, the interest of its classical application to transmission parts is described, underlining peculiarly the reduction of the distortion observed when LPC is associated with high pressure gas quenching. Then the less-known advantages of the LPC process, like the high accuracy and reproducibility of the results, the modeling possibility and the simulation easiness, the case-depth uniformity and the full flexibility of the units are considered, showing how they can be beneficial to subcontracting business.

Revealing the Fluttering Motions of Mid-Water Trawl Codend Through Sea Trials:Case Study of Antarctic Krill Trawl Codend

The dynamic coupling between the fluttering motions and hydrodynamic characteristics of codend is essential in understanding the trawl selectivity through fish response and the drag force acting on the whole *** study investigated the effect of towing speed,warp length,warp tension,and catch size on the fluttering motions of Antarctic krill trawl codend during net shooting,towing,and hauling by using sea trial *** time-periodicity of codend oscillation was analyzed by the Morlet wavelet transform *** indicated that the period of codend oscillation was between 50 s and 90 s and showed an increasing trend with the warp tension but a decreased value at the towing *** coefficient amplitude of codend oscillation was between 0 and 4 at the net shooting and hauling stages,and between 0.2 and 0.6 at the towing *** amplitude of codend oscillation increased with the warp tension,towing speed,and catch size,but decreased with the increase of the warp *** addition,the period of codend oscillation increased with the towing speed at the net shooting and hauling stages,but decreased at the towing *** results from codend fluttering motions can improve the understanding of fish behavior and gear shape that modify the hydrodynamic force on the codend instantaneously.

Several countries around the world have followed the growing number of monkeypox(MPX) cases with concern, as they are still very sensitive to fears of a new tragic pandemic, as was the case with COVID-19. This alarm has been prolonged since May 2022[1,2], when the current outbreaks of the disease were observed in several countries outside the area normally associated with the circulation of the causative virus, monkeypox virus(MPXV).

Birds caught in spider webs in Asia

A recent global review of birds caught in spider webs reported only three Asian cases. Given this surprisingly low number, I made a concerted effort to obtain additional Asian cases from the literature, the internet, and field workers. I present a total of 56 Asian cases which pertain to 33 bird species. As in the global dataset, mostly small bird species were caught in spider webs, with a mean body mass of 17.5 g and a mean wing chord length of 73.1 mm. Conse?quently, birds with a body mass >30 g were very rarely caught. This Asian review corroborates the global review that smaller birds are more likely to be caught and that Nephila spiders are most likely to be the predators. Continuous monitoring of spider webs is recommended to ascertain the frequency of these events.

This paper reviews the different challenges that are encountered in the delivery of high power lasers as drivers for fusion *** will focus on diode-pumped solid-state lasers and we will highlight some of the main recent achievements when using ytterbium,cryogenic cooling and ceramic gain *** from some existing fusion facilities and some military applications of diode-pumped solid-state lasers,we will show that diode-pumped solid-state lasers are scalable to inertial fusion energy(IFE)'s facility level and that the all-fiber laser scheme is very promising.

The generation of the continental crust is widely accepted to have taken place predominantly in the Archean,when TTG magmatism associated with greenstone-belt supracrustal succession development was typically followed by emplacement of high-K granites before crustal *** study focuses on the Campos Gerais complex(CGC),which is an Archean granite-greenstone belt lithological association in a tectonic window located in the southwesternmost portion of the São Francisco craton(SFC).The CGC is an important segment of Paleo-to Mesoarchean continental crust to be integrated into paleogeographic reconstructions prior to the transition into the *** investigation reports field relationships,28 major and trace element compositions,U–Pb(zircon)geochronological results,and Hf and Sm–Nd isotope data for orthogneiss and amphibolite *** results indicate that the CGC records a complex Archean crustal evolution,where voluminous 2.97 Ga TTG tonalites and trondhjemites(ε_(Nd)(t)=-4.7;T_(DM)=3.24 Ga)were followed by 2.89 Ga sanukitoid tonalite production(ε_(Nd)(t)=-1.9;T_(DM)=3.02 Ga),broadly coeval with the development of the Fortaleza de Minas and Pitangui *** events are interpreted to represent the initial stage of an important subduction-accretion tectonic cycle,which ended with the emplacement of 2.82–2.81 Ga high-K leucogranites and migmatization of the TTG-sanukitoid crust,with hybrid and two-mica,peraluminous compositions(ε_(Nd)(t)=-8.0 to-8.6;T_(DM)=3.57–3.34 Ga).The presence of inherited zircons with207Pb/206Pb ages of 3.08 Ga,3.29 Ga,3.55 Ga and 3.62 Ga indicates that the Mesoarchean tectonic processes involved reworking of Meso-to Eo-archean *** TTG magmatism took place at ca.2.77 Ga represented by juvenile tonalite stocks(ε_(Nd)(t)=+1.0 to-1.5;T_(DM)=2.80–2.88 Ga)which intrude the TTG-greenstone belt *** stabilization was attained by 2.67 Ga,allowing for the emplacement of within-plate thol

France is a country with 67 million inhabitants and is part of the European *** consumption in humans is higher in France as compared to the European average,especially in outpatient settings(1–2).The burden of antibiotic resistance is also high,as compared to the European average,with an estimated 5,500 deaths per year associated with multidrug-resistant bacterial infections(3).Encouraging results have,however,been observed over the last several years:antibiotic consumption in the community,in nursing homes and in hospitals showed a decreasing trend,as well as certain resistant bacteria,such as 3rd-generation cephalosporin-or fluoroquinolone-resistant Escherichia coli(1–2,4–5).The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on antibiotic consumption and its long-term impact on antibiotic resistance is being carefully monitored(1).
