Flotation behavior and electronic simulations of rare earth minerals in the presence of dolomite supernatant using sodium oleate collector

Common rare earth(RE) minerals, such as bastnasite and monazite, may be formed in deposits associated with carbonate gangue, such as calcite and dolomite. Sodium oleate is a widely used collector for the flotation of both RE and gangue minerals, which might, therefore, be an inefficient process due to the lack of selectivity of this collector. Since these minerals are also sparingly soluble in solution, they could release their constituent ions into the solution, which could affect the floatability of other minerals. In this study, the interactions of sodium oleate with bastnasite and monazite in the presence of dissolved dolomite species have been investigated. Microflotation tests were carried out to explore the effects of these dissolved species on the floatability of the RE minerals. Zeta potential measurements and XPS characterization were carried out to understand how the species affect the collector adsorption. To complement these characterizations, density functional theory(DFT) simulations were conducted to investigate the collector-mineral and collector-adsorbed species(on the mineral surface) *** results show that collector-dolomite interaction energy is greater than that of collector-adsorbed species, but lower than collector-monazite interaction energy, explaining the decrease in the minerals' recovery upon exposure to the dissolved mineral species. It is also shown that oleate ions(OI^-) have the strongest interaction with the minerals compared to other oleate species such as acid soap(HOI_2^-) and oleate dimer(OI_2^(2-)). The behavior(strength and selectivity) of sodium oleate towards RE minerals and dolomite, as compared to other RE mineral collectors(such as aromatic hydroxamate), is attributed mainly to the collector's and the minerals' structure. Characterization of Flaxseed Oil for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Its Encapsulation

Flaxseed (linum usitatissimum l.) is one of the oldest crops known by humans and it has been used in numerous applications, such as in the textile industry, feed formulation, fertilizers, and paper industry. However, nowadays these seeds have won an important highlight for human consumption due to their active ingredients that make them an excellent functional food. Thus, this study aimed to extract flaxseed oil, an oil rich in omega 3 and 6, characterize it by using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and then encapsulate this oil in polycaprolactone (PCl) on the micro scale, using the nanoprecipitation technique and subsequently freeze-drying. To determine the mean diameter, the dynamic light scattering technique (DlS) was used, and to verify whether there was encapsulation, the pulse sequence MSE-FID, an NMR sequence in the time domain, was also used. In addition to the previously mentioned techniques, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was also employed. Flaxseed flour was also analyzed by time-domain NMR and FTIR. The results obtained by NMR show that the oil consists of fatty acid esters in the form of triglycerides in which there is the presence of esters of α-linolenic and linoleic acids, respectively AlA and lA, according to the literature. Regarding the material after encapsulation, it presented a mean diameter of 445.2 ± 41 nm and PDI of 0.674 ± 0.064, therefore classified as microparticles. Finally, using the sequence MSE-FID and the FTIR, it can be concluded that there has been the microencapsulation of flaxseed oil in the particles formed.

Effect of solvent mixtures on the ultrasound-assisted extraction of compounds from pineapple by-product

Extraction of compounds from pineapple by-products can be affected by operational conditions and *** study aimed to(i)carry out the ultrasound-assisted extraction of phenolic compounds from pineapple peels using different types of solvents and operating conditions and(ii)characterize the extracts *** solvents with the highest efficiency in extracting total phenolic compounds(TPC),namely water,ethanol,and acid solution(1 mol l−1 HCl),were tested in different proportions using a simplex-centroid mixture *** effects of time(5–45 min),temperature(30–60°C),and ultrasonic power(0–100 W)were also *** were assessed for antioxidant potential,phenolic profile,and sugar *** contents ranged from 219.75 to 405.06 mg GAE 100 g−1,with the highest value obtained in the mixture of ethanol(0.50)and acid solution(0.50).The extract with the highest TPC content and antioxidant activity was obtained at 60°C,50 W of ultrasonic power and 30 *** extract obtained under these conditions contained fructose(7.17 g 100 g−1)and glucose(8.29 g 100 g−1)as major soluble sugars and caffeic acid(217.65 mg 100 g−1)as the major phenolic ***,the extraction of compounds under the conditions studied is an alternative to the valorization of pineapple waste.

The Addition of Strength Training to Practice of High Intensity Group Gymnastics May Not Imply in Highest levels of Strength and Quality of life: A Cross-Sectional Study

The aim of the present study was to compare the levels of maximum strength, endurance muscular and quality of life among practitioners of group gymnastics (IG) of isolated form and practitioners of group gymnastics combinated with strength training (CG). This study is characterized as observational of comparative cross-sectional design. The sample was composted by young women, trained at least for three months, without health complications. Maximum strength (1RM) and endurance muscular (repetition at 60% 1RM) of the lower limbs were evaluated in knee extension exercise, unilaterally. Overall quality of life and in four domains was evaluated by the WHOQOl-bref. data were described by mean and standard deviation values. Outcomes were compared by independent t-test, adopting a significance level (α) of 0.05. Thirty women were evaluated (isolated gymnastic (IG), n = 15;30.13 ± 7.24 years—combined gymnastic and strength (CG), n = 15;29.46 ± 8.18 years). Similarly values were found among groups for all outcomes (p > 0.05). The results suggest that the association of strength training with gymnastics training, possibly accumulating excessive training volume, may not increase the levels of maximum strength, endurance muscular and quality of life in young women.

The aim of this investigation was to assess the effect of yellow mombin bagasse extract(YMBE),alone or combined with commercial cryoprotectants,on the quality changes during cold storage of surimi and surimi gel prepared with the cutting by-product of green weakfish(Cynoscion virescens).Four treatments were elaborated:SC(surimi control),SE(surimi with addition of 1%extract),SCP(surimi with the addition of 4%sorbitol+4%sucrose)and SECP(surimi with addition of 1%extract+4%sorbitol+4%sucrose).The addition of the extract was effective in maintaining the whiteness of the surimi and its gel throughout *** the end of 12 days of cold storage,the surimi gel prepared with SE treatment presented high whiteness compared to the control *** inclusion of 1%YMBE in isolation or combined with commercial cryoprotectants showed a positive effect on the inhibition of lipid and protein oxidation of *** conclusion,YMBE extract is a promising alternative to be used as a natural food preservative in surimi and surimi gel.

Purpose:This meta-analytical study aimed to explore the effects of resistance training(RT) volume on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation in postmenopausal and older ***:A systematic search was performed for randomized controlled trials in PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,and *** controlled trials with postmenopausal and older females that compared RT effects on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation with a control group(CG) were *** reviewers selected the studies,extracted the data,and performed the risk of bias and certainty of the evidence(Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE)) *** body and abdominal adiposity,blood lipids,glucose,and C-reactive protein were included for meta-analysis.A random-effects model,standardized mean difference(Hedges’ g),and 95% confidence interval(95%CI) were used for ***:Twenty randomized controlled trials(overall risk of bias:some concerns;GRADE:low to very low) with overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females were *** groups were divided into low-volume RT(lVRT,~44 sets/week) and high-volume RT(HVRT,~77 sets/week).Both RT groups presented improved body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation when compared to ***,HVRT demonstrated higher effect sizes than lVRT for glucose(HVRT=-1.19;95%CI:-1.63 to-0.74;lVRT=-0.78;95%CI:-1.15 to-0.41) and C-reactive protein(HVRT=-1.00;95%CI:-1.32 to-0.67;lVRT=-0.34;95%CI,-0.63 to-0.04)) when compared to ***:Compared to CG,HVRT protocols elicit greater improvements in metabolic risk and inflammation outcomes than lVRT in overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females.

Efficiency of soil-applied ^(67)Zn-enriched fertiliser across three consecutive crops

A very small amount of applied zinc(Zn) is taken up by crops, resulting in low recovery by plants. Adding elemental sulphur to zinc oxide(ZnO) fertiliser could improve Zn solubilisation and exert a higher residual effect on crops than soluble Zn sources. We produced an isotopically labelled Zn-elemental sulphur fertiliser and evaluated its performance in comparison to traditional Zn sources during sequential crop cultivation. Three ^(67)Zn-labelled fertilisers,ZnO, zinc sulphate(ZnSO_(4)), and ZnO co-granulated with elemental sulphur(ZnOS^(0)), were soil applied, and their contributions to the uptake of Zn by three consecutive crops, wheat, ryegrass, and corn, were assessed in a 294-d pot experiment. The contributions of Zn fertilisers followed the order: ZnSO_(4) > ZnO= ZnOS^(0). The relative contributions of Zn fertilisers were lower in the first crop than in the subsequent crops. The overall recovery of applied Zn by the three crops was higher for ZnSO_(4) than for ZnO and ZnOS^(0), reaching 1.56%, 0.45%, and 0.33% of the applied Zn, respectively. Zinc recovery by plants was very low, regardless of the source of Zn. Adding elemental sulphur to ZnO did not increase its effectiveness up to 294 d after application. Fertiliser contribution was higher for the subsequent crops than for the initial crop, indicating the importance of assessing the residual effects of Zn fertilisers.
