Brazil has a wide variety of fruits that remain insufficiently *** encourage the use of one such fruit,the bacupari((Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.)),the current study produced flours from its by-products(the peel and seed)at two maturation stages and subsequently evaluated their proximate composition,physical,antioxidant,bioactive,microstructural and thermal *** results revealed that the flours have a high in fiber content(>15%)and are a potential source of protein(>5%).Seed flour has an energy value similar to that of wheat flour and other conventional *** flour micrographs indicate the presence of starch,a fact confirmed by viscosity *** flours contain phenolic compounds and exhibit antioxidant activity,especially the unripe peel *** the compounds identified by chromatography,those present in the greatest concentrations were quinine(≅111μg/g),p-coumaric acid(≅25μg/g),m-coumaric acid(≅15μg/g),and formononetin(≅21μg/g),all of which are known to have several human health *** flour crystallinity diminished as the fruit *** flour exhibited similar thermal transitions but less thermal stability than seed *** summary,this study revealed that flours produced from the peel and seeds of bacupari,which are generated in large quantities as agro-industrial by-products,can be used as alternative ingredients in various sectors of the food industry.

The multi-domain hybrid Spectral-WENO method(Hybrid)is introduced for the numerical solution of two-dimensional nonlinear hyperbolic systems in a Cartesian physical domain which is partitioned into a grid of rectangular *** main idea of the Hybrid scheme is to conjugate the spectral and WENO methods for solving problems with shock or high gradients such that the scheme adapts its solver spatially and temporally depending on the smoothness of the solution in a given *** as a multi-domain method,an adaptive algorithm is used to keep the solutions parts exhibiting high gradients and discontinuities always inside WENO subdomains while the smooth parts of the solution are kept inside spectral ones,avoiding oscillations related to the well-known Gibbs phenomenon and increasing the numerical efficiency of the overall scheme.A higher order version of the multi-resolution analysis proposed by Harten is used to determine the smoothness of the solution in each *** also discuss interface conditions for the two-dimensional problem and the switching procedure between WENO and spectral *** Hybrid method is applied to the two-dimensional Shock-Vortex Interaction and the Richtmyer-Meshkov Instability(RMI)problems.

AIM: To investigate the association between epidermal growth factor (EGF) +61A/G polymorphism and susceptibility to gastric cancer, through a cross-sectional study. METHODS: Polymerase chain reaction resctriction fragment lenght polymorphism analyses were used to genotype EGF +61 in 207 patients with gastric lesions (162 patients with gastric adenocarcinomas, 45 with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia) and 984 controls. All subjects were Caucasian. RESULTS: Genotype distribution was 23.5% for GG and 76.5% for GA/AA in the control group, 18.4% for GG and 68.6% for GA/AA in the entire group with gastric lesions and 17.9% for GG and 82.1% for GA/AA in the group with gastric adenocarcinoma. No statistically significant associations were found between EGF +61 variants and risk for developing gastric cancer [odds ratios (OR) = 1.41, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.90-2.21, P = 0.116]. However, the stratification of individuals by gender revealed that males carrying A alleles (EGF +61A/G or AA) had an increased risk for developing gastric cancer as compared to GG homozygous males (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.05-2.28, P = 0.021). CONCLUSION: In summary, we found that males who were A carriers for EGF +61 had an increased risk for developing gastric cancer. This result may be explained by the suggestion that women secrete less gastric acid than men.

Aim:ABCB1 is a major player in cancer drug *** purpose of this study was to functionally assess the regulation of ABCB1 activity in a doxorubicin-resistant breast cancer cell line by miR-200c and ***:Human breast carcinoma cell lines MCF-7(Doxorubicin-sensitive and not expressing ABCB1)and KCR(Doxorubicin-resistant and expressing ABCB1)were used to evaluate the expression levels of miR-200c and miR-203 by Real-time quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR).The effects of transient ectopic expression of miRNA-200c and miR-203 on the expression of ABCB1 in KCR and MCF-7 cells was verified by RT-qPCR and Western *** extrusion activity of the ABCB1 pump was analyzed by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry through fluorescence substrate retention assays(DiOC2)in the presence and absence of the ABCB1 inhibitor ***:RT-qPCR results indicated a 100,000-fold increase in ABCB1 mRNA expression levels in KCR cells compared to MCF-7 cells,and is inversely correlated with the expression of miR-203 and *** insertion of miR-200c and miR-203 led to a higher retention of DiOC2 within KCR cells,and slightly reduced the protein levels of ABCB1 in KCR cells,although the high initial expression of ABCB1 masked the reduction in protein *** increased intracellular accumulation of the fluorescent due DiOC2 in the presence of the ABCB1 inhibitor verapamil correlated with the inhibition caused by miR-203 and miR-200c in transfected ***: The present study demonstrates that miR-200c and miR-203 exert a negative modulating effect on the activity of ABCB1 associated with doxorubicin resistance.

Objective： Probe-based confoeal laser endomicroscopy （pCLE） technique may improve the diagnosis of gastric mucosal lesions allowing acquisition of high-resolution in vivo images at the cellular and mierovaseular levels. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of pCLE for the differential diagnosis of non-neoplastic and neoplastic gastric ***： Twenty gastric mucosal lesions from 10 patients were evaluated during endoscopic procedure and were examined by pCLE. Diagnostic pCLE was followed by biopsies or endoscopic resection of suspected lesions. A senior pathologist evaluated the specimens and was blinded to the pCLE ***： Patients＇ mean age was 68.3 （range, 42-83） years and six were men. Thirteen suspicious flat or elevated lesions （classified as 0-Is, 0-IIa or 0-IIa ＋ IIc） and seven pre-malignant lesions （atrophy and intestinal metaplasia） were evaluated. One patient was studied during his long-term follow-up after partial gastrectomy and presented severe atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, and xanthomas at the stump mucosa. The location of gastric lesions was in the body （n=10 lesions）, the antrum （n=9） and the incisura angularis （n=1）. All neoplastic lesions and all but one benign lesion were properly diagnosed by pCLE. pCLE incorrectly diagnosed one small antrum lesion as adenoma, however the final diagnosis was intestinal metaplasia. The final histological diagnosis was neoplastic in 9 and benign lesions in 11. In this small case series, pCLE accuracy was 95% （19/20 lesions）.Conclusions： pCLE is accurate for real time histology of gastric lesions, pCLE may change the management of patients with gastric mucosal lesions, guiding biopsies and endoscopic resection, and avoiding further diagnostic workup or unnecessary therapy.

Spices are defined as any aromatic condiment of plant origin used to alter the flavor and aroma of foods. Besides flavor and aroma, many spices have antioxidant activity, mainly related to the presence in cloves of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, terpenoids and eugenol. In turn, the most common uses of gum arabic are in the form of powder for addition to soft drink syrups, cuisine and baked goods, specifically to stabilize the texture of products, increase the viscosity of liquids and promote the leavening of baked products (e.g., cakes). Both eugenol, extracted from cloves, and gum arabic, extracted from the hardened sap of two species of the Acacia tree, are dietary constituents routinely consumed virtually throughout the world. Both of them are also widely used medicinally to inhibit oxidative stress and genotoxicity. The prevention arm of the study included groups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the same period and for an additional 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG, or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The treatment arm of the study included groups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The novelty of this study is the investigation of their use alone and together for the prevention and treatment of experimental colorectal carcinogenesis induced by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the combined use of 10% gum arabic and eugenol was effective, with antioxidant action in the colon, as well as reducing oxidative stress in all colon segments and preventing and treating genotoxicity in all colon segments. The present work sought to demonstrate the importance using geoprocessing techniques and methodologies in the identification and analysis of the temporal and spatial distribution of air temperature. Therefore, an environment with difficulties for systematic monitoring of climatic elements was selected in the Serra da Esperançaárea, southern region of the State of Paraná. Two methodologies established in geoprocessing were used: the first deals with the interpretation of orbital images and the second makes reference to the interpolation of surface data. These methodologies, used in an integrated way, made it possible to know the relationship between the spatial and temporal distribution of air temperature with vegetation and the terrain altimetry. The air temperature data were monitored at 4 (four) points, following the contours of the federal highway that passes through the study area. Satellite images were obtained of July 26th, 2015 and January 18th, 2016, representing winter and summer southern conditions. The results indicated that this relationship exists and that in the absence of absolute data monitored at conventional collection points, geostatistics techniques allow good estimation. Moreover, this methodology can be used to control land use change in permanent preservation areas.

The use of self-expandable metallic stents has increased recently to palliate inoperable esophageal neoplasia and also in the management of benign strictures. Migration is one of the most common complications after stent placement and the endoscopist should be able to recognize and manage this situation. Several techniques for managing migrated stents have been described, as well as new techniques for preventing stent migration. Most stents have a "lasso" at the upper flange which facilitates stent repositioning or removal. An overtube, endoloop and large polypectomy snare may be useful for the retrieval of stents migrated into the stomach. External fixation of the stent with Shim's technique is efficient in preventing stent migration. Suturing the stent to the esophageal wall, new stent designs with larger flanges and double-layered stents are promising techniques to prevent stent migration but they warrant validation in a larger cohort of patients.
