The study of thermal comfort in the built environment is of great relevance since it stimulates the development of more sustainable buildings suited to the local climate and able to meet the human need for *** objective of this research was to develop,construct and test a passive heating system adaptable to existing buildings,reducing the need for major interventions and increasing thermal comfort in the indoor *** adopted methodological approach was a case study in a single-family residence located in the brazilian city of Petrópolis,a mountainous region with a humid subtropical climate and a rigorous *** proposed passive heating system is totally isolated,thus mitigating air infiltration and promoting increase of temperature in the internal environment through the absorption of solar energy and greenhouse *** kind of solution is especially interesting for residents of this region,since most of the city buildings are not adequately prepared to handle low ***,given local climatic conditions,residents need to spend a lot of money on the acquisition and operation of electric or gas heating *** results indicated that the developed system,in fact,increased the temperature of the studied room when compared to an adjacent room,which did not receive the *** findings of this paper,therefore,provide a valuable reference for experts and practitioners in the selection of heating systems to be used in cold regions,and proved that passive systems can provide thermal comfort at the same time that optimize the interaction of the building with the local ecosystem.

Structure,stability,catalytic activity,and polarizabilities of small iridium clusters

At the second order Douglas–Kroll–Hess（DKH2） level, the b3 PW91 functional in conjunction with the relativistic all-electron basis set of valence triple zeta quality plus polarization functions are employed to compute bond lengths, dissociation energies, vertical ionization potentials, and the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy gaps of the small iridium clusters（Irn, n≤8）. These results are compared with the experimental and theoretical data available in the literature. Our results confirm the theoretical predictions made by feng et al. about the catalytic activities of the Ir4 and Ir6 clusters. from the optimized geometries, DKH2 calculations of static electric mean dipole polarizabilities and polarizability anisotropies are also carried out. It is the first time that the polarizabilities of small iridium clusters have been studied. for n≤4, the mean dipole polarizabilities per atom present an odd–even oscillatory behavior,whereas from Ir5 to Ir8, they decrease with the cluster size increasing. The dependence of the polarizability anisotropy on the structure symmetry of the iridium cluster is verified.

The corpus cavernosum after treatment with dutasteride or finasteride： a histomorphometric study in a benign prostatic hyperplasia rodent model

Erectile dysfunction is a common side effect of finasteride and dutasteride treatments. The objective of this study was to investigate the structural changes in the penis using a benign prostatic hyperplasia （bPH） rodent model treated with dutasteride or finasteride. Sixty male rats were divided into the following groups： C, untreated control rats; C ＋ D, control rats receiving dutasteride; C ＋ f, control rats receiving finasteride; H, untreated spontaneously hypertensive rats （SHRs）; H ＋ D, SHRs treated with dutasteride; and H ＋ f, SHRs treated with finasteride. Treatments were performed for 40 days, and penises were collected immediately thereafter. The organs were analyzed using histomorphometric methods to determine the cross-sectional penile area, as well as the surface density （Sv） of smooth muscle fibers, connective tissue, elastic system fibers, and sinusoidal spaces of the corpus cavernosum. The results were compared using a one-way ANOVA with bonferroni＇s posttest. Groups C ＋ D and C ＋ f had a significantly smaller penile cross-sectional area, but more elastic system fiber Sv compared to Group C. Group C ＋ D showed less smooth muscle Sv, and Group H showed more connective tissue but a smaller sinusoidal space Sv in the corpus cavernosum compared to Group C. Groups H ＋ D and H ＋ f had less smooth muscle Sv than Group H. Group H ＋ D also had more connective tissue and elastic system fiber Sv than Group H. both dutasteride and finasteride promoted penile modifications in the control rat penis, although this affect was ~reater in Group H animals. In this rodent model, dutasteride was the drug that most affected the corpus cavernosum.

Elesclomol (ELC) is an anticancer drug inducing mitochondria cytotoxicity through reactive oxygen ***,for the first time,we encapsulate the poorly water soluble ELC in monoolein-based cubosomes stabilized with Pluronic *** uptake and nanocarrier accumulation close to the mitochondria with sub-micrometer distance is identified via three-dimensional (3D) confocal microscopy and edge-to-edge compartment *** monitor the therapeutic effect of the ELC nanocarrier,we apply for the first time,label-free time-lapse multi-photon fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (MP-fLIM) to track NAD(P)H cofactors with sub-cellular resolution on live cells exposed to an anticancer *** in vitro cytotoxicity is verified when loading the pre-complexed ELC with copper (ELC-Cu).Importantly,for equivalent copper concentration,cubosomes loaded with ELC-Cu show higher cytotoxicity compared to the free *** novel nanocarrier shows promising features for systemic ELC-Cu administration,and furthermore we establish the MP-fLIM technique for the assessment of anticancer drug delivery systems.

This paper presents a proposal for an experimental salt cavern in offshore ultra-deep water for CO2 abatement,including the instrumentation plan and well conceptual design evaluated for carbon capture and storage(CCS)*** studies are based on applied computational mechanics associated with field experimentation that has contributed to the technical feasibility of the underground potash mine at the State of Sergipe in *** knowhow allowed the stability analysis of several salt caverns for brine production at the State of Alagoas in brazil and to the drilling through stratified thick layers of salt of the pre-salt reservoirs in Santos ***,this knowledge has been applied in the design of onshore and offshore salt caverns opened by dissolution for storage of natural gas and *** geomechanical study,through the application of computational mechanics,of offshore giant salt caverns of 450 m high by 150 m in diameter,shows that one cavern can store about 4 billion Sm3 or 7.2 million tons of *** the construction of the giant cavern,which will be the first gas storage offshore in the world,it has been decided to develop an experimental one,with smaller size,to obtained field *** experimental cavern will allow the calibration of parameters to be used in the structural integrity analysis of the cavern and well for storage of natural gas which is rich in CO2 under high pressure.

The prostate of weaned pups is altered by maternal malnutrition during lactation in rats

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of maternal malnutrition during lactation on prostate growth and estradiol serum concentration in the prostate of pups. At delivery,nine Wistar rats were separated into three groups：control group （C） with free access to a standard laboratory diet containing 22% protein;protein-energyrestricted group （PER） with free access to an isoenergy and protein-restricted diet containing 8% protein;and energyrestricted group （ER） receiving standard laboratory diet in restricted quantities,which were calculated according to the mean ingestion of the PER group. All pups were killed at weaning. PER and ER groups presented a significant reduction in estradiol serum concentration （C = 73.8±4.6,PER=48.7±3.2,ER = 59.7±5.5 pg mL^-1,P〈0.01）,total prostatic acini （C = 24 190.0±716.5,PER = 20 290.0±631.4,ER=19 550.0±759.1 μm^2;P〈0.01）,lumen of the prostatic acini （C = 5 590.0±165.4,PER = 3 776.0±251.3,ER = 4 658.0±198.1 μm^2;P〈0.01） and epithelial area of the prostate dorsal lobe （C=18 120.0±391.4,PER=16 520.0±799.2,ER = 14 890.0±589.8 μm^2;P〈0.01）.Testosterone concentration was significantly increased only in the PER group when compared with the C group （C = 0.09±0.01,PER = 0.44±0.04,ER=0.15±0.03 ng mL^-1,P〈0.001）. An adequate nutritional state in early life is important for normal growth of the prostate gland,which seem to be related to serum levels of estradiol.

Plants hold biochemical and physiological mechanisms to withstand drought ***,depending on water deficit interval,plant rehydration relies on how it can retain growth or a positive water balance—or rarely *** this study,two species of Hymenaea,one from the Amazon and the other from the brazilian Cerrado,were investigated for their physiological mechanism associated with growth rehydration upon short-term exposure to drought *** findings demonstrate that Hymenaea courbaril tends to invest in nitrogen to the detriment of carbon compounds,-as it is limited by lower net photosynthesis-and adjust root growth to attenuate drought stress *** contrast,Hymenaea stigonocarpa takes advantage of higher water potential and a basal rate of lower net photosynthesis to support aboveground growth under such ***,it is postulated that there are distinct ways of controlling water status and growth between *** and ***,which are determined either by the ability of the species to keep net photosynthesis at low levels of water content or by favoring the accumulation of nitrogen *** mechanisms were effective with regards to water use efficiency and thus it is reasonable to suggest that strategies are not exclusive and may work under adverse conditions,as observed in Amazon and brazilian Cerrado ***.

Red Onion (Allium Cepa L.) Methanolic Extract Increases Extracellular Nucleotide Hydrolysis in Rat Serum

Ectonucleotidases are enzymes involved in nucleotides metabolism. The amount of circulating nucleotides may modulate distinct pathophysiological processes in the vasculature, including platelet aggregation and vascular tone. Onion (Allium cepa L.) phenolic compounds modulate enzymatic activity. The present study evaluated the total phenolic content of red onion methanolic extract, its antioxidant capacity, and its ability to interfere in nucleotides hydrolyses in rat serum. Total phenolic content was determined with the folin-Ciocalteau reagent using gallic acid as a standard, while total flavonoid content was obtained through the aluminum chloride colorimetric method with quercetin as a standard. Antioxidant capacity was evaluated from the ability of the extract to scavenge AbTS·+ and DPPH· radicals. ATP, ADP, AMP, and p-Nph-5'-TMP hydrolyses were colorimetrically determined in response to different onion extract concentrations (0, 125, 250, 500, or 1000 μg/mL). Phenolic content of the extract was 54.35 mg GAE 100 g-1 sample, while flavonoid content was 7.22 mg quercetin g-1 sample. The IC50 value for AbTS·+ was 374.13 ± 7.52 μg/mL, while it was 440.29 ± 15.17 μg/mL for DPPH·. Red onion extract increased ADP and p-Nph-5'-TMP hydrolysis. The results confirmed that red onion contains high content of antioxidant, mainly flavonoids, and high antioxidant capacity. Additionally, biochemical studies suggest that the increased ADP breakdown may be important to regulate vascular processes. As it occurs for other enzymes, the antioxidant capacity of onion extract may neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation and favor ectonucleotidase activity and the hydrolysis of ADP, a major platelet agonist.

This review shows the importance of WO_(3)photoanode as a potentially low-cost,efficient,stable,and photoactive material for light-driven water *** such,this manuscript aims to review the most recent publications regarding the strategies to improve the phoelectroactivity of WO_(3)films for water *** addition,this review aims to graphically highlight and discuss the general trendings of the photocurrent density response and stability test of the recent outstanding studies in the literature for photoelectrochemical water splitting *** strategies covered in this review will not only concern the WO_(3)morphology and crystal plane growth,but also the many arrangements possibilities to improve the WO_(3)efficiency for water photoelectrooxidation,such as defect engineering based on oxygen vacancies,doping,decorations,and homo and *** these strategies are compared by the photocurrent density results and by the stability of these *** best results in this sense were observed in cases where the use of heterojunction was applied together with a desired morphology and crystal plane of the WO_(3)***,the modifications that caused a decrease in the photocurrent density reaching values that are even lower than the pure WO_(3)were also *** this way,this review intends to improve the knowledge about the synthesis and design of WO_(3)photoanodes to further obtain an efficient photocatalyst to minimize the recombination losses or losses across the interfaces and improve the photoelectroactivity for water splitting in the large-scale application.

Gleason score and tumor laterality in radical prostatectomy and transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate： a comparative study

We aimed to compare Gleason score and tumor laterality between transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate （TRUSbX） and radical prostatectomy （RP）. Some factors that could cause a discrepancy in results between these two procedures were also evaluated. Among the 318 cases reviewed, 191 cases were selected for inclusion in this comparative Study, We divided the patients into two groups using the Gleason score： an intermediate/high-grade group （≥7） and a low-grade group （〈6）. Exploratory analyses were conducted for comparisons between groups. We also performed comparisons between TRUSbX and RP for tumor laterality. TRUSbX overestimated 6% and underestimated 24% cases in comparison with RP for Gleason score, and overestimated 2.6% and underestimated 46% cases compared with RP for tumor laterality. biopsy specimens were slightly smaller in TRUSbX cases with underestimated tumor laterality （P〈 0.05）, and no relationship between the biopsy specimen size and underestimated Gleason score in TRUSbX was found. Prostatic volume showed no statistical correlation with the likelihood of under or overestimation （P 〉 0.05）. Thus, our study showed that TRUSbX has a high likelihood of underestimating both the Gleason score and tumor laterality in prostate cancer （PCa）. The size of the fragment appears to be an important factor influencing the likelihood of laterality underestimation and Gleason score overestimation via TRUSbX. Due to the high likelihood of underestimation of the Gleason score and tumor laterality by 12-core prostate biopsy, we conclude that this type of biopsy should not be used alone to guide therapy in Pca.
