AIM: To investigate estrogen receptors expression in duodenal familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP) and any relationship with epithelial proliferation/apoptosis ***: Twenty-two patients affected by FAP undergoing duodenal resection for malignancies were recruited. Controls were 15 healthy subjects undergoing endoscopy for dyspeptic symptoms. ER-α, ER-α, Ki-67, TUNEL and caspase 3 expression(labeling index: percentage of positive cells) were evaluated by immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence and examined by light or confocal microscopy. Samples were assigned to four groups: normal tissue, low(LGD)and high-grade dysplasia(HGD), adenocarcinoma(AC). One-way analysis of variance, corrected by Bonferroni's test, and Pearson's correlation test were applied for statistical ***: ER-beta showed a progressive decline: normal tissue(23.5 ± 4.9), LGD(21.1 ± 4.8), HGD(9.3 ± 3.5), AC(7.1 ± 3.1). The normal tissue of FAP subjects expressed ER-beta like the controls(23.9 ± 6.2). Conversely, ER-α showed a progressive increase from normal tissue(24.8 ± 5.6) to AC(52.0 ± 8.2); the expression in normal tissue was similar to controls(22.5 ± 5.3). Ki67 demonstrated a statistically significant progressive increase at each disease stage up to AC. TUNEL did not reveal differences between controls and normal tissue of FAP subjects, but progressive decreases were observed in LGD, through HGD to AC. Pearson's correlation test showed a direct relationship between ER-b and TUNEL LI(r = 0.8088, P < 0.0001). Conversely, ER-α was inversely correlated with TUNEL LI(r =- 0.7257, P < 0.0001). The co-expression of ER-b and caspase 3 declined progressively from normal to neoplastic ***: This study confirmed that ER-b is strongly decreased in duodenal FAP carcinomas, declining in a multiple step fashion, thereby suggesting a putative anti-carcinogenic effect. ER-α showed the opposite trend. ER-b/caspase 3 co-expression suggests this hormone's possible involvement

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection has affected the entire world,causing the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic since it was first discovered in Wuhan,China in December *** the clinical presentation of the disease,in addition to fever,fatigue,cough,dyspnea,diarrhea,nausea,vomiting,and abdominal pain,infected patients may also experience neurological and psychiatric repercussions during the course of the disease and as a post-COVID-19 ***,headache,dizziness,olfactory and gustatory dysfunction,cerebrovascular disorders,neuromuscular abnormalities,anxiety,depression,and post-traumatic stress disorder can occur both from the infection itself and from social distancing and *** to current evidence about this infection,the virus has the ability to infect the central nervous system(CNS)via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)receptors on host *** studies have shown the presence of ACE2 in nerve cells and nasal mucosa,as well as transmembrane serine protease 2,key points for interaction with the viral Spike glycoprotein and entry into the CNS,being olfactory tract and blood-brain barrier,through hematogenous dissemination,potential ***,the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the CNS supports the development of neuropsychiatric *** management of these manifestations seems more complex,given that the dense parenchyma and impermeability of brain tissue,despite protecting the brain from the infectious process,may hinder virus ***,some alternatives used in non-COVID-19 situations may lead to worse prognosis of acute respiratory syndrome,requiring ***,the aim of this review is to bring more current points related to this infection in the CNS,as well as the repercussions of the isolation involved by the pandemic and to present perspectives on interventions in this scenario.

评价儿童沐浴使用抗菌皂及合成洗涤剂的pH值,以确认产品标签上是否有相关信息。对90种条状或液体样品进行定量、横断面及分析观测研究。这些样品包含67种儿童皂、17种抗菌皂及6种合成洗涤剂,每种样品均稀释至1%后测定。除了描述性统计外,考虑到最低5%的显著水平,使用了Pearson-Yates chi卡方检验和Student T检验进行了描述统计;另外,使用了Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney检验、Fisher精确检验和Kruskal-Wallis检验进行推论统计。结果:液体产品和和条形产品的pH水平具有显著差异,其中液体产品pH偏低(4.4-7.9)(P<0.05),合成洗涤剂的pH较理想(微酸),而抗菌皂的pH最高,达到11.34(P<0.05)。其中只有两种产品在包装上标注了pH信息。本研究发现不同的产品p H值存在较大差异,因此,向医生及使用者提供其pH信息是非常有必要的。而且,为了保证皮肤的屏障功效,液体皂,尤其是合成洗涤剂,是目前最适合向诸如新生儿及婴幼儿等敏感皮肤推荐的产品。

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT)has emerged as a curative strategy for sickle cell anemia(SCA);it is necessary to find markers of SCA clinical severity to spare those SCA patients whose clinical course is mild from the morbidity and mortality associated with HSCT. Haplotypes have been correlated with the severity of clinical manifestations in SCA patients, and fetal hemoglobin(HbF)and socioeconomic status(SeS)have also been described as negative factors. We studied these factors and their impact on clinical manifestations in a population of Southern Brazilian patients attending the Center for Sickle Cell Anemia at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre/RS, Brazil. Clinical severity was defined as two or more veno-occlusive episodes per year. The βS haplotypes were determined by PCR in 75 SCA patients. Among the 150 βS chromosomes analyzed, 99(66%)were identified as Bantu(Ban), 41(27%)asBenin(Ben), and 10(7%)as other haplotypes. Most patients in our sample(62.7%)belonged to lower SeS groups, precluding meaningful statistical analysis of SeS impact on clinical severity. There was no correlation between haplotypes or HbF level and SCA clinical severity. Gene polymorphisms and environmental issues have to be taken into consideration.

The Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor (CEOT) also called the Pindborg’s Tumor represents a rare benign epithelial odontogenic neoplasm with locally aggressive behavior. Surgical excision with a safety margin is one of the treatment options, requiring bone and soft tissue reconstruction for implant-supported rehabilitation, providing the individual with a return to adequate oral functions. The objective of the present study is to report on the case of the treatment stages and the factors involved in the rehabilitation of a 23-year-old man with a history of mandibular lesion diagnosed as CEOT. A marginal resection of the mandible lesion was performed, with posterior reconstruction with iliac crest bone graft and soft tissue graft to allow the implant-supported rehabilitation. Currently, in the postoperative control, the individual shows no signs of tumor recurrence and is rehabilitated without functional and/or aesthetic complaints. Surgical excision should be framed as a form of treatment, aiming for better resolution in the more complex cases of these invasive tumors.

The concern of the ethics and the meaning of life in young adults became universal and are present in all contexts of human life. Such universality is due to the development of modern rationality, to establish a relationship between the intrinsic theoretical dimensions (scientific) and practical dimensions (ethical), originated that are present in the own array of knowledge. This descriptive cross-sectional study, aims to identify the values of the ethical dimension and meaning of life defended by the college students of the Universities of Madeira, Portugal and Fortaleza, Brazil. The sample consists of 605 University students (Madeira = 225 and Fortaleza = 380), with an average age of 21 years and a standard deviation of 2. We used the questionnaire on values (adapted from the European Values Survey). Most of the young people referred to have a religion (60% wood and 78.4% stronghold), being the most Catholic, however, present in your frequency disinterest and, yet, in Brazil there is a greater diversity of religions. Supporting the intervention of religious institutions in situations of everyday life is accepted mostly by Brazilians, with the exception of politics (35.5%). On the other hand, the university students of the University of Madeira understand that Religious Institutions should only give their opinion on racial discrimination (76.6%). Believe in God (90.8% and 55.1% Stronghold) and Soul (80.3% and 66.4% Stronghold) are beliefs more referred to by college students. These results are intended to contribute in the field of research on ethical values and meaning of life in young people. This study contributes to future comparative research among university students and to developing strategic programs in education and health, increasing the success and excellence in the formation of a full citizenship, preventing the fanaticisms and the social discrimination that today devastate the collective globally.
