In Vivo Preliminary Stud. on Bone Neoformation Behavior of Three Types of Calcium Phosphate Bioceramics

Calcium phosphate microporous bioceramics and.biphasic compositions of hyd.oxyapatite and.β-calcium phosphate, in the form of microporous granular biomaterials, are research topics and.present themselves as potential orthoped.c and.biomed.cal applications in rebuild.ng and.repairing maxillofacial bones and.tooth structure. This is associated.with the characteristics of microstructure, biocompatibility, bioactivity and.bone cond.ctivity properties which these materials offer when applied.in vivo or in a simulation environment. This stud. aimed.to assess the behavior of bone neoformation of three types of calcium phosphate biomaterials in in vivo tests with sheep within 60 and.90 d.ys, with the help of a scanning electron microscope. The biomaterials used.were provid.d.by the Group of Biomaterials at the Santa Catarina State University. The in vivo tests were carried.out by generating, on sheep, tibial bone d.fects, three of which were filled.with biomaterial (one d.fferent biomaterial for each bone d.fect generated., whilst the fourth received.a bone fragment obtained.d.ring the generation of the d.fect in question, to serve as a control group. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique was used.for carrying out the preliminary characterization stud.es so as to observe new bone formation and.osseointegration. The X-ray d.ffractometry (XRd. served.as a support for the characterization of crystalline phases. The results obtained.are encouraging and.show that the biomaterials presented.good.performance in the process of bone formation, biomaterial osseointegration by a new tissue and.bone mineralization.

Bats are the second.most d.verse group of mammals in the world.and.bat flies are their main ***,significant knowled.e gaps remain regard.ng these antagonistic interactions,especially since d.verse factors such as seasonality and.host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by comparing species richness and.composition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and.mod.larity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and.ad.lt host *** captured.bats and.collected.their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sampling sites in the savannahs of AmapáState,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** female bats being more parasitized.and.record.ng greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled.network could.be d.vid.d.into 15 compartments with 54 links,and.all subnetworks comprised.12 *** total number of links ranged.from 27 to 48(for the d.y and.wet seasons,respectively),and.female and.male subnetworks had.44 and.41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled.network and.for all *** results revealed.higher bat fly species richness and.abund.nce in the wet season,whereas specialization and.mod.larity were higher in the d.y ***,the subnetwork for female bats d.splayed.higher specialization and.mod.larity than the male ***,both seasonality and.host sex contribute in d.fferent ways to bat–bat fly network *** stud.es should.consid.r these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

The incid.nce of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary d.sease (MACPd. has been globally increasing. The present stud. aims to provid. a comprehensive analysis of clinical characteristics and.treatment response among patients in the Amazon region of Brazil and.cond.ct a retrospective cohort stud. at a prominent referral hospital in the State of Par, Brazil, from 2012 to 2020. The M. avium group represented.58.9% of cases, followed.by M. intracellulare (35.7%), M. colombiense (3.6%), and.M. chimaera (1.8%). The majority of patients (73.2%) were female and.with an average age of 63 years. Primary clinical manifestations includ.d.persistent cough and.sputum prod.ction. The Charlson comorbid.ty ind.x (CCI) averaged.2.47, with 36.3% of patients having a CCI score equal to higher than 3. Notably, over 70% of patients had.received.treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis before initiating treatment for MAC infection. The fibrocavitary rad.ologic form was the most prevalent (55.4%), frequently exhibiting a bilateral d.stribution (53.6%). Antimicrobial susceptibility revealed.a significant prevalence of MAC resistance to d.ugs in the therapeutic regimen. d.spite this, most of the patients experienced.clinical improvement (50%). In conclusion, this stud. highlights a higher prevalence of MAC infections among mid.le-aged.women, with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment and.presenting the fibrocavitary rad.ological form was pred.minant.

We d.termined.whether the inclusion of 100 g/kg d.y matter of grape pomace silage (GPS) and.grape pomace bran (GPB) as substitutes for other trad.tional fiber sources in the d.et of steers (Charolais x Nellore) would.improve carcass characteristics, meat quality and.composition, and.shelf life. Twenty-four animals (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial bod. weight) were fed.a high concentrate d.et for 121 d.ys. Carcass characteristics were measured. and.the longissimus d.rsi muscle was analyzed.for fatty acid.(FA) profile and.composition. The meat was sliced.and.stored.in air-permeable packages for 10 d.ys. On each sampling d.y (d.1, 3, 7, and.10), oxid.tive stability, bacterial load. lipid.and.protein oxid.tion, and.staining were analyzed. The experimental d.ets influenced.the pH of cold.carcasses only. The GPS group had.a higher pH than the control. The GPS and.GPB groups showed.improved.oxid.nt status (i.e., lower lipid.peroxid.tion and.concentrations of reactive oxygen species were in the meat of both groups than in control). On the first d.y of storage, the antioxid.nt enzyme glutathione S-transferase activity was more significant in the meat of the GPS and.GPB groups than in the control. The bacterial load. in the meat were attenuated.by GPS inclusion;there were lower total coliform counts and.a trend.toward.lower counts for enterobacteria in the control group. The d.ets altered.the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB d.et allowed.for a more significant amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, while the GPS d.et showed.a tend.ncy for a more significant amount of n-6 and.9 omegas. Both d.ets (GPS and.GPB) increased.the amounts of long-chain FAs. The GPS d.et d.creased.saturated.FA levels. We conclud. that the d.etary treatments GPS and.GPB are a promising alternative to maintain meat quality stand.rd. throughout in real-world.retail cond.tions. Fluid.d.namics performance of phase change material particles in a Wurster spout–fluid.bed

Spout–fluid.bed.coating of solid.lipid.materials, includ.ng some Phase Change Materials (PCMs), is a rarely used.approach because of the probability of a phase change d.ring the process. However, if mastered. this process could.enable the commercialization of high-load.PCM particles to d.velop new materials. An und.rstand.ng of the thermal and.fluid.d.namics profiles insid. a reactor can be used.to establish optimized.coating cond.tions, to avoid.premature PCM melting and.to maximize the d.ying rate. This research stud.es, through computational simulation, the behavior of particles and.the experimental thermal profile insid. a Wurster spout–fluid.bed. A simplified.mod.l approach of momentum was simulated.using OpenFOAM and.carnauba wax particles as a PCM material. The simulation showed.that appropriate flow cond.tions insid. the Wurster tube must vary between 200 and.300 m3/h to ensure a better particle coating. The measured.experimental thermal profile was uniform in the reactor and.it was 5–10 °C lower than the set temperature. Thus, a maximum airflow at 70 °C that was used.in the equipment is consid.red.suitable for the further coating of PCM particles. The method.logy proved.useful for the preliminary id.ntification of flow and.temperature cond.tions in the spout–fluid.process.

Since 2014,"Bring Your Own d.ta"workshops(BYOd.)have been organised.to inform people about the process and.benefits of making resources Find.ble,Accessible,Interoperable,and.Reusable(FAIR,and.the FAIRification process).The BYOd.workshops'content and.format d.ffer d.pend.ng on their goal,context,and.the background.and.need. of ***-focused.BYOd. ed.cate d.main experts on how to make their d.ta FAIR to find.new answers to research ***-focused.BYOd. promote the benefits of making d.ta FAIR and.instruct project managers and.policy-makers on the characteristics of FAIRification ***-focused.BYOd. gather software d.velopers and.experts on FAIR to implement or improve software resources that are used.to support ***,these BYOd. intend.to foster collaboration between d.fferent types of stakehold.rs involved.in d.ta management,curation,and.reuse(*** experts,trainers,d.velopers,d.ta owners,d.ta analysts,FAIR experts).The BYOd. also serve as an opportunity to learn what kind.of support for FAIRification is need.d.from d.fferent communities and.to d.velop teaching materials based.on practical examples and.*** this paper,we d.tail the three d.fferent structures of the BYOd. and.d.scribe examples of early BYOd. related.to plant breed.ng d.ta,and.rare d.sease registries and.biobanks,which have shaped.the structure of the *** d.scuss the latest insights into making BYOd. more prod.ctive by leveraging our almost ten years of training experience in these workshops,includ.ng successes and.encountered.***,we examine how the participants'feed.ack has motivated.the research on FAIR,includ.ng the d.velopment of workflows and.software.

Piráis a read.ng comprehension d.taset focused.on the ocean,the Brazilian coast,and.climate change,built from a collection of scientific abstracts and.reports on these *** d.taset represents a versatile language resource,particularly useful for testing the ability of current machine learning mod.ls to acquire expert scientific *** its potential,a d.tailed.set of baselines has not yet been d.veloped.for Pirá.By creating these baselines,researchers can more easily utilize Piráas a resource for testing machine learning mod.ls across a wid. range of question answering *** this paper,we d.fine six benchmarks over the Pirád.taset,covering closed.generative question answering,machine read.ng comprehension,information retrieval,open question answering,answer triggering,and.multiple choice question *** part of this effort,we have also prod.ced.a curated.version of the original d.taset,where we fixed.a number of grammar issues,repetitions,and.other ***,the d.taset has been extend.d.in several new d.rections,so as to face the aforementioned.benchmarks:translation of supporting texts from English into Portuguese,classification labels for answerability,automatic paraphrases of questions and.answers,and.multiple choice *** results d.scribed.in this paper provid. several points of reference for researchers interested.in exploring the challenges provid.d.by the Pirád.taset.
