Technological,environmental and biological factors:referent variance values for infrared imaging of the bovine

Background： Despite its variety of potential applications, the wide implementation of infrared technology in cattle production faces technical, environmental and biological challenges similar to other indicators of metabolic state. Nine trials, divided into three classes （technological, environmental and biological factors） were conducted to illustrate the influence of these factors on body surface temperature assessed through infrared imaging. Results： Evaluation of technological factors indicated the following： measurements of body temperatures were strongly repeatable when taken within ]0 s; appropriateness of differing infrared camera technologies was influenced by distance to the target; and results were consistent when analysis of thermographs was compared between judges. Evaluation of environmental factors illustrated that wind and debris caused decreases in body surface temperatures without affecting metabolic rate; additionally, body surface temperature increased due to sunlight but returned to baseline values within minutes of shade exposure. Examination/investigation/exploration of animal factors demonstrated that exercise caused an increase in body surface temperature and metabolic rate. Administration of sedative and anti-sedative caused changes on body surface temperature and metabolic rate, and during late pregnancy a foetal thermal imprint was visible through abdominal infrared imaging. Conclusion： The above factors should be considered in order to standardize operational procedures for taking thermographs, thereby optimizing the use of such technology in cattle operations.

Building-level loads and load schedules prescribed by current modeling rules save modelers time and provide standards during whole building performance ***,recent studies show that they sometimes insufficiently capture the entire building performance due to the varied loads and load schedules for different space *** a solution to this issue,this paper presents a database of default building-space-specific loads and load schedules for use in energy modeling,and in particular code compliance modeling for commercial *** existing sets of default loads and load schedules are reviewed and the challenges behind using them for specific research topics are ***,the proposed method to develop the building-space-specific loads and load schedules is *** that,the database for these building-space-specific loads and load schedules is *** addition,one case is studied to demonstrate the applications of these loads and load *** this case study,three methods are used to develop building energy models:space-specific(using knowledge of the distribution and location of space types and applying the space-specific data in the developed database),building-level(assuming a lack of knowledge of the space types and using the building-level data in the developed database),and calculated-ratio(assuming knowledge of the distribution of space types but not their locations and calculating weighted average values based on the space-specific data in the developed database).The energy results simulated by using these three methods are compared,which shows building-level methods can produce significantly different absolute energy and energy savings results than the results using space-specific ***,this paper discusses the application scope and maintenance of this new database.

The objective of this appraisal is to shed light on the various approaches to screen sensory information in the human gut. Understanding and characterization of sensory symptoms in gastrointestinal disorders is poor. Experimental methods allowing the investigator to control stimulus intensity and modality, as well as using validated methods for assessing sensory response have contributed to the understanding of pain mechanisms. Mechanical stimulation based on impedance planimetry allows direct recordings of luminal cross-sectional areas, and combined with ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, the contribution of different gut layers can be estimated. Electrical stimulation depolarizes free nerve endings non-selectively. Consequently, the stimulation paradigm （single, train, tetanic） influences the involved sensory nerves. Visual controlled electrical stimulation combines the probes with an endoscopic approach, which allows the investigator to inspect and obtain small biopsies from the stimulation site. Thermal stimulation （cold or warm） activates selectively mucosal receptors, and chemical substances such as acid and capsaicin （either alone or in combination） are used to evoke pain and sensitization. The possibility of multimodal （e.g. mechanical, electrical, thermal and chemical） stimulation in different gut segments has developed visceral pain research. The major advantage is involvement of distinctive receptors, various sensory nerves and different pain pathways mimicking clinical pain that favors investigation of central pain mechanisms involved in allodynia, hyperalgesia and referred pain. As impairment of descending control mechanisms partly underlies the pathogenesis in chronic pain, a cold pressor test that indirectly stimulates such control mechanisms can be added. Hence, the methods undoubtedly represent a major step forward in the future characterization and treatment of patients with various diseases of the gut, which provides knowledge to dinicians

CdS quantum dot aerogels for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

CdS quantum dots(QDs)have been extensively studied as photocatalysts and sensitizers for visible-light-driven water ***,their efficiencies are limited by the need to accumulate sufficient redox equivalents to produce_(H2)and consequent photocorrosion associated with slow hole-transfer *** address these limitations,we report the formation of CdS QD assemblies(aerogels,AGs)capable of facilitating energy/charge transport between individual QDs,and evaluate their performance as photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution as a function of structure,wurtzite(w-)***(zb-),and different annealing *** formation of AGs from QDs resulted in increased rates of_(H2)production under visible light illumination:from 1458(QD)to 6650(AG)μmol_(H2)·h^(-1)·g^(-1)on zbCdS and from 1221(QD)to 3325(AG)μmol_(H2)·h^(-1)·g^(-1)on *** is attributed to exciton delocalization between adjacent QDs facilitating charge/energy *** processing of CdS AGs up to 250℃ improved their activity,increasing the degree of exciton delocalization,while annealing them to 300℃ caused sintering of the primary QD particles within the AGs and a decrease in activity associated with loss in surface *** best photocatalyst,zbCdS AG annealed at 250℃,had an average_(H2)production rate of 13,604±2017μmol_(H2)·h^(-1)·g^(-1),an apparent quantum yield of 2.8%at 425±12.5 nm,and was stable for 2 h before beginning to deactivate due to *** study confirms the potential of CdS AGs as matrixes for the design of more active and stable composite photocatalysts for water splitting.

Convergences in the diversification of bats

Twenty-five characters or suites of characters from bats are considered in light of changes in bat classification. Thecharacters include some associated with flower-visiting (two), echolocation (12), roosting (six), reproduction (two) and three areof unknown adaptive function. In both the 1998 and 2006 classifications of bats into suborders (Megachiroptera and Microchiropteraversus Yinpterochiroptera and Yangochiroptera, respectively), some convergences between suborders are the same (e.g.,foliage roosting, tent building), but others associated with echolocation differ substantially. In the 1998 phylogeny convergencesassociated with echolocation (high duty cycle echolocation, nasal emission of echolocation calls) occurred among the *** the 2006 phylogeny, they occur between Yinpterochiroptera and Yangochiroptera. While some traits apparently aroseindependently in two suborders (e.g., foliage-roosting, tent building, low intensity echolocation calls, noseleafs, nasal emission ofecholocation calls, high duty cycle echolocation behaviour), others appear to have been ancestral (roosting in narrow spaces,laryngeal echolocation, stylohyal-tympanic contact, oral emission of echolocation calls, and small litter size). A narrow profilethrough the chest is typical of bats reflecting the thoracic skeleton. This feature suggests that the ancestors of bats spent the day insmall crevices. Features associated with laryngeal echolocation appear to be ancestral, suggesting that echolocation evolved earlyin bats but was subsequently lost in one yinpterochiropteran lineage .

Quantities of comorbidities affects physical, but not mental health related quality of life in type 1 diabetes with confirmed polyneuropathy

Do networks of social interactions reflect patterns of kinship？

The underlying kin structure of groups of animals may be glimpsed from patterns of spatial position or temporal as- sociation between individuals, and is presumed to facilitate inclusive fitness benefits. Such structure may be evident at a finer, behavioural, scale with individuals preferentially interacting with kin. We tested whether kin structure within groups of meerkats Suricata suricatta matched three forms of social interaction networks： grooming, dominance or foraging competitions. Networks of dominance interactions were positively related to networks of kinship, with close relatives engaging in dominance interactions with each other. This relationship persisted even after excluding the breeding dominant pair and when we restricted the kinship network to only include links between first order kin, which are most likely to be able to discern kin through simple rules of thumb. Conversely, we found no relationship between kinship networks and either grooming networks or networks of foraging competitions. This is surprising because a positive association between kin in a grooming network, or a negative association be- tween kin in a network of foraging competitions offers opportunities for inclusive fitness benefits. Indeed, the positive association between kin in a network of dominance interactions that we did detect does not offer clear inclusive fitness benefits to group members. We conclude that kin structure in behavioural interactions in meerkats may be driven by factors other than indirect fit- ness benefits, and that networks of cooperative behaviours such as grooming may be driven by direct benefits accruing to indi- viduals perhaps through mutualism or manipulation

Indole methylation protects diketopiperazine configuration in the maremycin biosynthetic pathway

The maremycin biosynthetic gene cluster has been identified in Streptomyces sp. B9173. Comparative metabolic profiling with knockout mutant strains led to the identification of new products correlated to the maremycin biosynthesis, in particular the ＂demethyl＂-maremycins with an unexpected D-tryptophan unit. A biosynthetic pathway for the maremycins is proposed and plausible reasoning for tryptopban epimerization in the demethylmaremycin biosynthesis is also provided.

Chronic pancreatitis(CP)is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas characterized by progressive fibrotic destruction of the pancreatic secretory *** the heterogeneity in pathogenesis and involved risk factors,processes such as necrosis/apoptosis,inflammation or duct obstruction are *** fibrosing process ultimately leads to progressive loss of the lobular morphology and structure of the pancreas,deformation of the large ducts and severe changes in the arrangement and composition of the *** conditions lead to irreversible morphological and structural changes resulting in impairment of both exocrine and endocrine *** prevalence of the disease is largely dependent on culture and *** etiological risk-factors associated with CP are multiple and involve both genetic and environmental *** this review the M-ANNHEIM classification system will be used,comprising a detailed description of risk factors such as:alcohol-consumption,nicotineconsumption,nutritional factors,hereditary factors,efferent duct factors,immunological factors and miscellaneous and rare metabolic *** knowledge of the different etiological factors may encourage the use of further advanced diagnostic tools,which potentially will help clinicians to diagnose CP at an earlier ***,in view of the multi factorial disease and the complex clinical picture,it is not surprising that treatment of patients with CP is challenging and often unsuccessful.
