Relationship between single and bulk mechanical properties for zeolite ZSm5 spray-dried particles

In this work typical mechanical properties for a catalyst support material, ZSm5 （a spray-dried granular zeolite）, have been measured in order to relate the bulk behaviour of the powder material to the single particle mechanical properties. Particle shape and size distribution of the powders, determined by laser diffraction and scanning electron microscopy （SEm）, confirmed the spherical shape of the spray-dried particles. The excellent flowability of the material was assessed by typical methods such as the Hausner ratio and the Cart index, This was confirmed by bulk measurements of the particle-particle internal friction parameter and flow function using a Schulze shear cell, which also illustrated the low compressibility of the material. Single particle compression was used to characterize single particle mechanical properties such as reduced elastic modulus and strength from Hertz contact mechanics theory. Comparison with surface properties obtained from nanoindentation suggests heterogeneity, the surface being harder than the core. In order to evaluate the relationship between single particle mechanical properties and bulk compression behaviour, uniaxial confined compression was carried out. It was determined that the Adams model was suitable for describing the bulk compression and furthermore that the Adams model parameter, apparent strength of single particles, was in good agreement with the single particle strength determined from single particle compression test.

HDAC inhibitors overcome immunotherapy resistance in B-cell lymphoma

Immunotherapy has been applied successully to treat B-cell lymphomas in preclinical models or clinical ***,immunotherapy resistance is a major challenge for B-cell lymphoma *** overcome this issue,combinatorlal therapeutic strategies have been pursued to achieve a better efficacy for treating B-cell *** of such strategies is to combine immunotherapy with histone deacetylase(HDAC)*** inhibitors can potentially increase tumor immunogenicity,promote antitumor immune respon-ses,or reverse immunosuppressive tumor ***,the combination of HDAC inhibitors and immunotherapy has drawn much attention in current cancer ***,not all HDAC inhibitors are created equal and their net effects are highly dependent on the specific inhibitors used and the HDACs they ***,we suggest that optimal treatment effh-cacy requires personalized design and rational combination based on prognostic biomarkers and unique profiles of HDAC ***,we discuss the possible mechanisms by which B-cell lymphomas acquire immunotherapy resistance and the effects of HDAC inhibitors on tumor cells and immune cells that could help overcome immunotherapy resistance.

mHC class Ⅰ-independent activation of virtual memory CD8 T cells induced by chemotherapeutic agent-treated cancer cells

Cancer cells can evade immune recognition by losing major histocompatibility complex(mHC)class Ⅰ.Hence,mHC class Ⅰ-negative cancers represent the most challenging cancers to *** drugs not only directly kill tumors but also modulate the tumor immune microenvironment However,it remains unknown whether chemotherapy-treated cancer cells can activate CD8 T cells independent of tumor-derived mHC class Ⅰ and whether such mHC class Ⅰ-independent CD8 T-cell activation can be exploited for cancer ***,we showed that chemotherapy-treated cancer cells directly activated CD8 T cells in an mHC class Ⅰ-independent manner and that these activated CD8 T cells exhibit virtual memory(Vm)***,in vivo chemotherapeutic treatment preferentially increased tumor-infiltrating Vm CD8 T ***,mHC class Ⅰ-independent activation of CD8 T cells requires cell-cell contact and activation of the PI3K *** CD8 T cells contribute to a superior therapeutic effect on mHC class Ⅰ-deficient *** humanized mouse models or primary human CD8 T cells,we also demonstrated that chemotherapy-treated human lymphomas activated Vm CD8 T cells independent of tumor-derived mHC class Ⅰ.In conclusion,CD8 T cells can be directly activated in an mHC class Ⅰ-independent manner by chemotherapy-treated cancers,and these activated CD8 T cells may be exploited for developing new strategies to treat mHC class Ⅰ-deficient cancers.

Estimation of damage in plants is a key issue for crop ***,experts in the field manually assess the *** is a time-consuming task that can be automated thanks to the latest technology in computer vision(CV).The use of image-based systems and recently deep learning-based systems have provided good results in several agricultural *** image-based applications outperform expert evaluation in controlled environments,and now they are being progressively included in non-controlled field applications.A novel solution based on deep learning techniques in combination with image processingmethods is proposed to tackle the estimate of plant damage in the *** proposed solution is a two-stage *** a first stage,the single plants in the plots are detected by an object detection YOLO based *** a regression model is applied to estimate the damage of each individual *** solution has been developed and validated in oilseed rape plants to estimate the damage caused by flea *** crop detection model achieves a mean precision average of 91%with a mAP@0.50 of 0.99 and a mAP@0.95 of 0.91 for oilseed rape *** regression model to estimate up to 60%of damage degree in single plants achieves a mAE of 7.11,and R2 of 0.46 in comparison with manual evaluations done plant by plant by *** are deployed in a docker,and with a REST API communication protocol they can be inferred directly for images acquired in the field from a mobile device.

Interventions to improve treatment adherence among adolescents: A meta-analysis

AIm: To examine the overall effectiveness of interventions designed to improve medical treatment adherence among adolescent ***: Pub med and Psyc INFO databases were searched to retrieve and analyze empirical journal articles(from 1948-2013). Only peer-reviewed, English language journals that defined a measure of adherence(or compliance), assessed an intervention aimed at improving adherence among adolescents, and provided information to calculate an r effect size were included. Studies were excluded if they lacked assessment of the effectiveness of interventions on improving adherence in adolescents as compared to no interventions or standard care. Case studies or journal articles that examined substance abuse or psychological disorders were also excluded. Analyses were conducted with fixed and random-effects methods, and moderators of intervention efficacy were also examined. RESULTS: For each study that met the inclusion crite-ria(n = 45), an effect size r, reflecting the strength and direction of the interventions' relationship to adherence was recorded; a positive r indicated that the intervention increased adolescent adherence, whereas a negative r indicated that the intervention decreased adolescent adherence. The overall effectiveness of adolescent adherence interventions was positive and significant(unweighted mean r = 0.27, 95%CI: 0.21-0.33, P = 0.001). moderator analyses at the fixed effects level revealed that interventions were less effective when adolescents reported their adherence behaviors, when the type of adherence regimen was a medication regimen, and when the type of intervention was cognitivemodification based. CONCLUSION: These findings contribute to understanding interventions for enhancing adolescent adherence. Future research should continue to examine the specific challenges faced by adolescents and create targeted interventions.

Assessment of Underwater Anthropogenic Noise Associated with Construction Activities in Bechers Bay, Santa Rosa Island, California

Acoustic monitoring and mitigation of underwater construction noise was conducted during marine pier demolition and reconstruction activities near Santa Rosa Island, California. Activities spanned two construction seasons and used both auger and pneumatic percussion drilling methods for pile placement. Pile drilling activities during construction resulted in sound pressure levels (SPL) ranging from 121.0 to 184.5 dB re 1 μPa. No significant difference was found for calculated source SPLs between the Season 1 and Season 2 methods of pile drilling (KW = 2.28, p = 0.15). Additionally, no significant difference was found for calculated source SPLs during active drilling between the Season 1 and Season 2 methods of pile drilling (KW = 3.39, p = 0.07). The average calculated source SPL documented during this study was lower than the NOAA Fisheries mandated safety zone threshold (160.0 dB re 1 μPa [rms]) for harassment to marine mammals. This is the first known report of SPL data collected in concert with marine pile drilling via the auger drilling technique. The results from this study can be used to improve information for and assist with the development of regulatory policies and techniques regarding sound level thresholds and mitigation monitoring.

Color Doppler ultrasound imaging in varicoceles: Is the difference in venous diameter encountered during Valsalva predictive of palpable varicocele grade?

Objective:The clinical grading system for varicoceles is subjective and dependent on clinician *** Doppler ultrasound(US)has not been standardized in the diagnosis of *** aimed to determine if US measurement of varicocele could be predictive of World Health Organization(WHO)varicocele ***:men who presented for either scrotal pain or infertility to a tertiary men’s health clinic underwent physical examination,and varicoceles were graded following WHO criteria(0Zsubclinical,1,2,3).US was used to measure largest venous diameter in the pampiniform plexus bilaterally at rest and during Valsalva *** operator characteristic curve analysis was used to determine if resting diameter,diameter during Valsalva,or change in diameter between at rest and during Valsalva provided the highest sensitivity and specificity for determining clinical *** values for diameter were determined from these receiver operator characteristic ***:A total of 102 men(50 with clinical varicocele and 52 with subclinical varicocele)were *** at rest was the best ultrasonographic discriminator between subclinical and clinical varicoceles(area under the curve[AUC]Z0.67)with a diameter threshold of 3.0 mm(sensitivity 79%,specificity 42%).Diameter during Valsalva had the greatest AUC for determining clinical Grades 1 versus 2(AUCZ0.57)with diameter threshold of 5.7 mm(sensitivity 71%,specificity 33%).For differentiating between Grades 2 and 3,diameter at rest had the greatest AUC of 0.65 with a threshold of 3.6 mm(sensitivity 71%,specificity 58%).Conclusion:Our results corroborate other studies that have shown a weak correlation between US and clinical *** use of diameter during Valsalva was less predictive than diameter at rest and was only clinically significant in differentiating between Grade 1 and 2 varicocele.A standardized method for determining clinically relevant varicoceles on US would allow for improved pat
