Predictive factors of visual outcome of Malaysian cataract patients:a retrospective study

AIM：To explore the associations between various characteristics of Malaysian cataract patients and their management,and their post-operative visual outcomes,to inform relevant bodies to reduce cataract-related ***：we conducted a descriptive secondary data analysis of cataract surgery patients in Melaka Hospital,from 2007 to 2014 using the National Eye Database（NED）.Patient-related factors（demographic features,systemic and ocular comorbidities）and management-related factors（surgical duration,type of surgery,type of lens）were analysed for their association with visual outcome（acuity）.RESULTS：Most patients were Malays（48.23%）and Chinese（38.55%）aged 60-79y（range 0-100y）.Hypertension（58.61%）and diabetes（44.89%）were major systemic ***（6.71%）and diabetic retinopathy（10.12%）were the main ocular *** comorbidities were age-related macular degeneration,pterygium,corneal opacities,macula diseases,vitreous haemorrhage,retinal detachment and pseudoexfoliation（0.70%-1.60%）.Preoperatively 7150（55.03%）eyes presented with poor *** phacoemulsification performed quickly with foldable lenses gave good ***：Primary care physicians should initiate early detection to prevent late presentation of cataracts causing poor vision and should discuss the risks and benefits of cataract surgery while emphasizing the role of pre-existing comorbidities which may affect the visual *** good results,phacoemulsification should be done within 30min,without complications,using foldable posterior chamber intraocular lens.

The expansion of electronic memory capacity is having fundamental long-term effects on the way texts are produced and used,and thus on the way they are *** are increasingly working on data bases in non-linear ways,separated from awareness of any active communicative *** enhances productivity and consistency but challenges more humanistic values like understanding,cooperation, and job *** order to address these changes,teaching practices should 1)make students aware of the communicative functions of texts, particularly the ways in which particular parts of texts become high-risk in particular situations,2)teach students how to use electronic tech- nologies within such a frame,and how to teach themselves about the technologies,and 3)train students for a range of professional communica- tion jobs,incorporating both the technical sides and the various revision and editing techniques now required by the technologies.

The four decades since reform and opening up have seen dramatic changes in China’s higher education *** on international dimensions,the analysis supports the view that reform and opening up was not merely an economic and political reform,but an opening of the mind to the outside world,after the disaster of the Cultural *** it is important to be reminded that China’s relations with the outside world have a much longer history,with the spread of Confucian ideas to East and Southeast Asia,and the importation of Buddhism from ancient India;both during the Tang *** article points to key ongoing debates in China about the extent to which it can incorporate ideas from outside,while still retaining a Chinese *** rise of China as a knowledge hub and destination for international students is also charted,and the prospects for further development are assessed.

AIM:To report 4 cases of Cryptococcus gattii(***)species complex infection with diverse ophthalmic manifestations,and to review the literature to examine pathobiology of disease,classical ophthalmic presentations and outcomes,and treatment modalities for this emerging ***:Cases of *** meningoencephalitis with ophthalmic manifestations were identified via chart review at two institutions in Australia and one institution in the mid-west region of the United States and are reported as a case ***,a MEDLINE literature review was conducted to identify all reported cases of *** with ophthalmic manifestations from *** were reviewed and tabulated,together with our series of patients,in this ***:Four cases of *** with ophthalmic manifestations are presented;three from Australia and one from the USA.A literature review identified a total of 331 cases of *** with visual *** majority of cases occurred in immunocompetent *** vision and diplopia were the most common presenting symptoms,with papilloedema the most common sign,reported in 10%-50%of *** loss was reported in 10%-53%of cases,as compared to rates of visual loss of 1%-9%in *** *** intracranial pressure,cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)fungal burden,and abnormal neurological exam at presentation correlated with poor visual *** mainstays of treatment are anti-fungal agents and aggressive management of intracranial hypertension with serial lumbar *** diversion procedures should be considered for refractory *** and mannitol are associated with high complication rates,and adjuvant corticosteroids have demonstrated higher mortality rates;these treatments should be ***:Permanent visual loss represents a devastating yet potentially preventable sequelae of *** *** hypertension needs to be recognised early and aggressively ***

It is known that every tensor has an associated semi-symmetric *** purpose of this paper is to investigate the shared properties of a tensor and its semi-symmetric *** particular,a corresponding semi-symmetric tensor has smaller Frobenius norm under some conditions and can be used to get smaller bounds for eigenvalues and solutions of dynamical systems and tensor complementarity *** addition,every tensor has the same eigenvalues as its corresponding semi-symmetric form,also a corresponding semi-symmetric tensor inherits properties like being circulant,Toeplitz,Z-tensor,M-tensor,H-tensor and some ***,there are a two-way connection for properties like being positive definite,P-tensor,semi-positive,primitive and several others.

Classifying Environmental Features From Local Observations of Emergent Swarm Behavior

Robots in a swarm are programmed with individual behaviors but then interactions with the environment and other robots produce more complex, emergent swarm behaviors. One discriminating feature of the emergent behavior is the local distribution of robots in any given region. In this work, we show how local observations of the robot distribution can be correlated to the environment being explored and hence the location of openings or obstructions can be inferred. The correlation is achieved here with a simple, single-layer neural network that generates physically intuitive weights and provides a degree of robustness by allowing for variation in the environment and number of robots in the swarm. The robots are simulated assuming random motion with no communication, a minimalist model in robot sophistication, to explore the viability of cooperative sensing. we culminate our work with a demonstration of how the local distribution of robots in an unknown, office-like environment can be used to locate unobstructed exits.

The goal of this paper is to review the evidence related to the effect of plant-based dietary pattems on obesity and weight loss, includingboth observational and intervention trials. Literature from plant-based diets （PBDs） epidemiological and clinical trial research was used toinform this review. In addition, data on dietary quality, adherence, and acceptability were evaluated and are presented. Both clinical trials andobservational research indicate an advantage to adoption of PBDs for preventing overweight and obesity and promoting weight loss. PBDsmay also confer higher levels of diet quality than are observed with other therapeutic diet approaches, with similar levels of adherence andacceptability. Future studies should utilize health behavior theory to inform intervention development and delivery of PBDs studies and newtechnologies to bring interventions to scale for greater public health impact. Research examining PBDs and weight loss is also needed withmore diverse populations, including older adults. Based on the available evidence, PBDs should be considered a viable option for the treat-ment and prevention of overweight and obesity.
